Four new dramas are premiering on the major networks this week:

Premiering on September 27 is the ABC drama Last Resort created by Shawn Ryan & Karl Gajdusek and starring Andre Braugher, Scott Speedman, Robert Patrick, Autumn Reeser, Max Adler, Daisy Betts and Dichen Lachman. The show’s music is composed by Robert Duncan (Castle, Buffy the Vampire Slayer) who has previously scored Ryan’s The UnitTerriers and The Chicago Code. Check out our previous article for a behind-the-scenes video with Duncan collecting different sounds on an actual submarine. Last Resort will be airing every Thursday night on ABC.

Also premiering on the same day is the CBS drama Elementary created by Rob Doherty and starring Jonny Lee Miller, Lucy Liu and Aidan Quinn. The show is a  modern day take on Sherlock Holmes and follows the iconic detective who has been assigned to live with his worst nightmare-sober coach, Dr. Joan Watson. Sean Callery (24, Bones, Homeland) is scoring the series. Check out our scoring assignment announcement from earlier this summer for more information about the project. Elementary will be airing Thursday nights on CBS.

Making its series premiere on Tuesday is the period drama Vegas created by Nicholas Pileggi & Greg Walker and starring Dennis Quaid, Michael Chiklis, Carrie-Anne Moss, Jason O’Mara and Taylor Handley. The show is set in 1960s Las Vegas and centers on a sheriff and his dealings with a Chicago mobster who moved west to set up his own operation. David Carbonara (Mad Men) is scoring his first major network show and John Houlihan (Training Day, Austin Powers) is the music supervisor of the series. Set to debut this Friday is the legal drama Made in Jersey created by Dana Calvo and starring Janet Montgomery, Kyle MacLachlan, Stephanie March, Toni Trucks, Donna Murphy, Erin Cummings and Kristoffer Polaha. The show follows a streetwise lawyer who joins a New York City law firm, where she must defend her clients while surviving her colleagues’ skepticism and her Italian family’s constant interruptions.     Whenever new prime time shows come out I try to catch at least one episode, just to check them out. I’m behind this year, the only one I’ve seen from this list is Last Resort, and I loved it. My coworkers at DISH say I need to see Elementary too, but I missed the premiere. Fortunately it’s Hopper DVR, which has Primetime Anytime. It automatically records all the prime time shows on the four major networks. I can watch Elementary and the other new shows at my leisure, then decide which ones I should keep following. I’ll probably watch Made in Jersey’s premiere tonight first, because I’m a fan of Dana Calvo’s work on Greek.
