Four new movies are opening nationwide this week:
Opening in most theaters is DreamWorks Animation’s latest feature Turbo is directed by David Soren and featuring the voice talent of Ryan Reynolds, Paul Giamatti, Michael Pena, Luis Guzmán, Bill Hader, Richard Jenkins, Ken Jeong, Michelle Rodriguez, Maya Rudolph, Ben Schwartz, Kurtwood Smith, Snoop Dogg and Samuel L. Jackson. The film’s original score is composed by Henry Jackman (Wreck-It-Ralph, X-Men: First Class). Relativity Music Group has released three different soundtrack editions for the film: a regular edition featuring the songs from the film, as well as selections of Jackman’s music, a deluxe edition featuring more score and a score-only album.
Expected to top the weekend box office is the horror thriller The Conjuring directed by James Wan and starring Lili Taylor, Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson, Ron Livingston, Joey King, Shanley Caswell, Haley McFarland, Mackenzie Foy, Kyla Deaver and Sterling Jerins. Joseph Bishara (Insidious, Dark Skies) has composed the film’s score. WaterTower Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music, as well as the film’s “family theme”composed by Mark Isham. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has invited 276 artists and executives who have distinguished themselves by their contributions to theatrical motion pictures to join the organization. Among the invited artists this year are a number of film composers including Ramin Djawadi whose credits include Iron Man, Clash of the Titans, Safe House and the upcoming Pacific Rim, Cliff Martinez whose film projects include Contagion, Drive and Best Picture nominee Traffic, Joe Hisaishi who scored the Academy Award-winning animated film Spirited Away, Aaron Zigman who is best known for his work on such films as The Notebook, Sex and the City and Bridge to Terabithia, Henry Jackman who scored this year’s Best Animated Film nominee Wreck-It-Ralph and J. Ralph who was nominated for Best Original Song this year for his work on Chasing Ice. In addition, Prince whose work for film includes Purple Rain and Happy Feet was also invited, as well as Siedah Garrett who performed last year’s Oscar nominated song Real in Rio from Rio. 
Milan Records has revealed the cover art of the Vinyl version of the soundtrack for Nicolas Winding-Refn’s thriller Only God Forgives. The album features the movie’s original score composed by Cliff Martinez (Traffic, Drive, Contagion), as well as the song You Are My Dream by the Thai band PROUD. The 180g LP is limited to 4000 copies and also includes a download card. The soundtrack will be released on July 16, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on 
Last night, Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI), held its annual Film & TV Awards at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. Cliff Martinez was honored with the Richard Kirk Award, which is bestowed on composers who have made significant contributions to the realm of film and television music. The composer whose film scoring credits include ten films directed by Steven Soderbergh, including Sex, Lies & Videotapes, Traffic, Solaris and Contagion, as well as such movies as Drive, The Lincoln Lawyer, Arbitrage and The Company You Keep was presented the award by the night’s hosts, BMI President & CEO Del Bryant and BMI Vice President, Film/TV Relations Doreen Ringer-Ross. Several of Martinez’s friends and collaborators congratulated him via a tribute video, including Soderbergh, Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Harmony Korine (Spring Breakers) and Nicolas Winding Refn, director of Drive and the composer’s most recent project Only God Forgives.
The details of the soundtrack album for Nicolas Winding-Refn’s upcoming thriller Only God Forgives have been revealed. The album features the film’s original score composed by Cliff Martinez (Traffic, Solaris) who previously scored the director’s last feature Drive. Also included is the song You Are My Dream by the Thai band PROUD, which was used in the film’s trailer. The soundtrack will be released on May 20, 2013 in France, where the movie is opening later this month. Milan Records will release a soundtrack in the US closer to the domestic release in July. Only God Forgives stars Ryan Gosling as the scion of a drug-smuggling family who runs a Thai boxing club and is sent on a quest for vengeance by his mother. Kristin Scott Thomas and Vithaya Pansringarm are co-starring.
