Milan Records will release a soundtrack album for Robert Redfords’s thriller The Company You Keep. The album features the film’s original score composed by Cliff Martinez (Traffic, Drive, Contagion). The soundtrack will be released on April 9, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The Company You Keep stars Shia LaBeouf, Nick Nolte, Sam Elliott, Brendan Gleeson, Terrence Howard, Anna Kendrick, Brit Marling, Nick Nolte, Julie Christie, Richard Jenkins, Jacqueline Evancho, Susan Sarandon, Stephen Root and Stanley Tucci. The movie about a former Weather Underground activist who goes on the run from a journalist who has discovered his identity premiered at last year’s Toronto Film Festival and has been picked up by Sony Pictures Classics for a theatrical release on April 5 in select cities.

‘Spring Breakers’ Soundtrack Details
Big Beat/Atlantic Records has announced the details of the soundtrack album for Harmony Korine’s upcoming drama Spring Breakers. The album features the film’s original score composed by Cliff Martinez (Drive, Traffic) and Skrillex. Also included are other tracks featured in the movie by Rick Ross, Waka Flocka Flame, Gucci Mane, Meek Mill, Ellie Goulding and actor James Franco. The soundtrack will be released digitally on March 12, 2013 and physically on March 19. To pre-order the CD, visit Amazon, where you can also listen to audio clips. Spring Breakers written and directed by Harmony Korine and starring James Franco, Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Benson and Rachel Korine premiered at last year’s Venice Film Festival and has been picked up for domestic distribution by A24 and Annapurna. The movie will be released in select cities on March 15, 2013 before expanding to more cities on March 22.
Atlantic Records to Release ‘Spring Breakers’ Soundtrack
Atlantic Records will release the official soundtrack album for the upcoming indie drama Spring Breakers. The album features the film’s original music composed by Skrillex and Cliff Martinez. Also included is music by Atlanta rapper Gucci Mane who also stars in the film. The soundtrack will be released on March 12, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The full album details are expected to be announced within the next couple of weeks. Spring Breakers is written and directed by Harmony Korine and stars James Franco, Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Benson and Rachel Korine. The film premiered at last year’s Venice Film Festival and has been picked up for domestic distribution by A24 and Annapurna. The movie will be released in select cities on March 22, 2013 before expanding nationwide on March 29.
Weekly Film Music Roundup (September 14, 2012)
Two new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the video game adaptation sequel Resident Evil: Retribution directed by Paul W.S. Anderson and starring Milla Jovovich, Sienna Guillory, Johann Urb, Li Bingbing, Shawn Roberts, Kevin Durand, Oded Fehr, Boris Kodjoe and Michelle Rodriguez. The film’s score is composed by tomandandy (The Strangers) who have scored the previous installment in the series. Milan Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer duo’s score, as well the end credits song Hexes produced by Bassnectar featuring Chino Moreno (of the Deftones) on vocals. Also opening wide is the 3D re-release of Pixar’s animated hit feature Finding Nemo directed by Andrew Stanton and featuring the voice talent of Ellen DeGeneres, Albert Brooks and Alexander Gould. The film’s music is composed by Thomas Newman who received an Academy Award-nomination for his work on the film. No new soundtrack has been released, but the original 2003 album is still in print (click here to download the album). Playing in front of Finding Nemo 3D is the new Toy Story short Partysaurus Rex, which features music by BT (The Fast and the Furious).
‘Arbitrage’ Soundtrack Details
Milan Records will be releasing a soundtrack album for the indie drama Arbitrage. The album features the film’s original score composed by Cliff Martinez (Drive, Traffic), as well as songs by Bjork, Billie Holiday, Jobim/Getz and a cover of My Foolish Heart. The soundtrack will be released on September 11, 2012 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Audio clips from the album can be checked out below. Abitrage is directed by Nicholas Jarecki and stars Richard Gere, Susan Sarandon, Tim Roth, Laetitia Casta, Brit Marling and Nate Parker. The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January and has been picked up by Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions for a theatrical release and VOD release on September 14.
Skrillex and Cliff Martinez to Score ‘Spring Breakers’
Skrillex (also known as Sonny Moore) and Cliff Martinez are co-scoring the upcoming comedy romance Spring Breakers. The film is written and directed by Harmony Korine and stars James Franco, Gucci Mane, Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Benson and Rachel Korine. The movie centers around four college girls whose Florida spring break gets completely out of control after an encounter with a rapper called “Alien”. Chris Hanley (American Psycho, The Virgin Suicides), Jordan Gertner, Charles-Marie Anthonioz and David Zander are producing the project Muse Productions. The project marks the film first scoring assignment for electronic music producer and singer-songwriter Skrillex who has received three Grammy Awards this year.
Notable Omissions among the Academy Awards’ Original Score Finalists
As announced last Thursday, 97 movies are eligible for nominations in the Original Score category for the 84th Academy Awards. Not included were a couple of scores that have been considered possible contenders. The two most notable omissions from the Academy’s finalists list are Drive and My Week with Marilyn, which both were disqualified for different reasons.
The score for Nicolas Winding-Refn’s Drive composed by Cliff Martinez has received the Boston Society of Film Critics‘ Best Use of Music in Film prize (tied with Ludovic Bource’s score for The Artist), the runner-up award by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association, as well as nominations from the Broadcast Film Critics Association and the Washington DC Area and London Critics Film Circle. As reported in Variety, the score was disqualified by the Academy because a number of songs were playing at key dramatic points during the film instead of the score, and two other composers were listed on the official studio cue sheet in addition to Martinez.
Cliff Martinez to Score ‘Arbitrage’
Cliff Martinez is currently scoring the indie drama Arbitrage. The movie is directed by Nicholas Jarecki and stars Richard Gere as a troubled hedge fund magnate who is forced to turn to an unlikely ally when he makes an error. Tim Roth, Susan Sarandon, Laetitia Casta, Brit Marling and Josh Pais are co-starring in the drama produced by Laura Bickford (Duplicity), Robert Salerno (21 Grams), Kevin Turen (An American Crime) and Justin Nappi. Bickford has previously produced the Martinez-scored drama Traffic. No word yet on whether any music by J. Ralph who was originally announced as the composer of Arbitrage will remain in the movie.
‘Severe Clear’ Score by Cliff Martinez Released
Sirk Productions has released a soundtrack album for the documentary Severe Clear. The album includes the original score from the film by composer Cliff Martinez. The soundtrack is available digitally on Amazon and iTunes. To listen to clips from all 15 tracks on the album, check out the box after the jump. Severe Clear directed by Kristian Fraga is based on the memoir by First Lieutenant Mike Scotti as well as video footage shot by him and other members of 1st Battalion, 4th Marines on the outset of the 2003 invasion of Iraq. The movie was making the festival rounds in 2009 and will be released on BluRay on October 25, 2011.

The film’s score is written by Cliff Martinez. A soundtrack featuring the composer’s score, as well as several songs from the movie has been released on Lakeshore Records.
