Bear McCreary has signed on to score the upcoming drama Rebel in the Rye. The film is written and directed by Danny Strong (Recount, Lee Daniels’ The Butler, Empire) and stars Nicholas Hoult, Kevin Spacey, Sarah Paulson, Zoey Deutch, Hope Davis and Victor Garber. The movie centers on the life and mind of reclusive author J.D. Salinger and goes from the bloody front lines of World War II to his early rejections and the PTSD-fueled writer’s block that led to his iconic novel, The Catcher in the Rye. Strong is also producing the project with Bruce Cohen (Silver Linings Playbook, American Beauty), Jason Shuman (The Messengers, Darkness Falls), as well as Molly Smith, Thad Luckinbill & Trent Luckinbill (Sicario, Demolition).

Bear McCreary Scoring ‘Unrest’
Bear McCreary announced on Twitter that he has composed the music for the upcoming documentary Unrest. The film tells her story of Harvard PhD student Jennifer Brea who is struck down at 28 by a fever that leaves her bedridden, doctors tell her it’s “all in her head.” Determined to live, she sets out on a virtual journey to document her story —and four other families’ stories — fighting a disease medicine forgot. Brea has directed the movie and is also producing the project with Lindsey Dryden and Patricia E. Gillespie. The documentary will premiere next month in competition at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival.

Premiering tomorrow, October 24, is the new CBS comedy Man with a Plan created by Jackie & Jeff Filgo (That 70’s Show) and starring Matt LeBlanc, Liza Snyder, Kevin Nealon, Diana Maria Riva, Matt Cook and Jessica Chaffi. The show’s original music is composed by John Kimbrough (Winter Passing, Jump Tomorrow, A Decade Under the Influence). The series follows a contractor who must take on a more active parenting role when his wife goes back to work for the first time in 13 years. The comedy will air every Monday night on CBS. Premiering on Thursday, October 27, is the new CBS comedy The Great Indoors created by Mike Gibbons and starring Joel McHale, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Susannah Fielding, Christine Ko, Shaun Brown, Stephen Fry and Chris Williams. Ben and Scott Hoffman are composing the show’s original music. The series revolves around an adventure reporter who, after being sidelined by an injury, suddenly finds himself in his magazine’s digital/social media department, where he must manage a group of millennials. Bear McCreary Scoring Nacho Vigolando’s ‘Colossal’
Bear McCreary has been tapped to score the upcoming sci-fi thriller Colossal. The film is written and directed by Nacho Vigalondo (Timecrimes) and stars Anne Hathaway, Jason Sudeikis, Dan Stevens, Austin Stowell and Tim Blake Nelson. The movie follows a party girl who discovers a mysterious connection between herself and a giant monster wreaking havoc on the other side of the globe. Nahikari Ipiña, Nicolas Chartier (The Hurt Locker, The Company You Keep), Zev Foreman (Good Kids), Dominic Rustam (Good Kids), Russell Levine (Tallulah) and Shawn Williamson (Alone in the Dark) are producing the Voltage Pictures and Brightlight Pictures production.
‘Black Mirror’ Season 3 to Feature Music by Max Richter, Martin Phipps, Bear McCreary & More
Several composers have been announced to score episodes of the upcoming third season of the anthology series Black Mirror. Among the composers hired to compose the music for the new episodes are Max Richter (The Leftovers, Testament of Youth, Disconnect), Martin Phipps (War & Peace, Woman in Gold, Brighton Rock), Bear McCreary (10 Cloverfield Lane, The Walking Dead, Battlestar Galactica, Outlander) and Geoff Barrow & Ben Salisbury (Ex Machina, Annihilation, Free Fire). As previously reported, Clint Mansell (Requiem for a Dream, Black Swan, Noah) has also scored a new episode of the show.
Bear McCreary to Score ‘Animal Crackers’
Bear McCreary is composing the score for the upcoming animated feature Animal Crackers. The film is directed by Tony Bancroft (Mulan) & Scott Christian Sava and features the voice talent of Emily Blunt, Sylvester Stallone, Ian McKellen, John Krasinski, Patrick Warburton and Danny DeVito. The movie centers on a family whose life is turned upside down when they inherit a rundown circus and a mysterious box of Animal Crackers, which magically changes the person who eats them into animals. Sava has also written the screenplay with Dean Lorey (Arrested Development) who is also producing the Blue Dream Studios production with George Lee, Marcus Englefield, James Thomason and Leiming Guan.
Madison Gate Records to Release ‘Outlander’ Season 2 Soundtrack
Madison Gate Records will release a new soundtrack album for the Starz original series Outlander. The album features selections of the music from the show’s second season composed by Bear McCreary (10 Cloverfield Lane, Battlestar Galactica, The Walking Dead, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., The Boy) who received an Emmy Award nomination for his work on the drama last year. The soundtrack will be released physically on October 28, 2016 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Check back on this page for the full album details. The label has previously released two soundtracks featuring McCreary’s music from the first season. Outlander is created by Ronald D. Moore based on the books by Diana Gabaldon and stars Caitrona Balfe, Sam Heughan, Tobias Menzies, Graham McTavish, Gary Lewis, Duncan Lacroix, Annette Badland and Stephen Walters.
Craig Armstrong, Ennio Morricone & Bear McCreary Honored at ASCAP Screen Music Awards
Last night, the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) held its annual Screen Music Awards at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. Craig Armstrong was honored with the ASCAP Henry Mancini Award, which is given to composers for outstanding achievements and contributions to the world of music for film, television and visual media. The Grammy Award- and Golden Globe-winning composer was presented the award by ASCAP president Paul Williams and director Oliver Stone who collaborated with Armstrong on the features World Trade Center, Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps and the upcoming Snowden, as well as the docu-series The Untold History of the United States.
