Varese Sarabande will release a new soundtrack album for the Netflix original series Orange Is the New Black created by Jenji Kohan and starring Taylor Schilling. The album will feature the selections from the show’s original score composed by Gwendolyn Sanford, Brandon Jay and Scott Doherty. The soundtrack is set to be released on May 12, 2015 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The label will also release the first soundtrack album for the BBC America original series Orphan Black created by Graeme Manson & John Fawcett and starring Tatiana Maslan. John Lunn to Score BBC America’s ‘The Last Kingdom’
John Lunn has been tapped to score the upcoming historical drama series The Last Kingdom. The show stars Alexander Dreymon, Rutger Hauer, David Dawson, Emily Cox, Matthew Macfadyen, Ian Hart, Tobias Santelmann, Thomas W. Gabrielsson, Peter Gantzler, Joseph Millson, Alexandre Willaume, Rune Temte and Henning Valin Jakobsen. The 8-parter based on Bernard Cornwell’s best-selling novels The Saxon Stories is set during the reign of Alfred the Great, who as King of Wessex fought off a Viking invasion and follows the son of a Saxon nobleman who is orphaned by the Vikings and then kidnapped and raised as one of their own. Stephen Butchard has adapted the material for the small screen.
‘Broadchurch’ Soundtrack Details
Mercury Records will release a soundtrack album for the critically acclaimed British series Broadchurch. The album features selections from the show’s original music from the first two seasons composed by Olafur Arnalds (United, Gimme Shelter), including the new song So Far performed by Arnór Dan. The soundtrack will be released overseas on January 19, 2015. No word yet on a domestic release date. The label has previously released a soundtrack EP featuring music from the first season. Broadchurch written and created by Chris Chibnall (Torchwood) stars David Tennant, Olivia Colman, Vicky McClure, Jodie Whittaker, Andrew Buchan, Will Mellor and Arthur Darvill.

Premiering tonight is the HBO original mini-series Olive Kitteridge directed by Lisa Cholodenko based on Elizabeth Strout’s Pulitzer Price-winning novel of the same title and starring Frances McDormand, Richard Jenkins, Zoe Kazan, Bill Murray, John Gallagher Jr., Jesse Plemons and Brady Corbet. Carter Burwell (Fargo, Twilight, True Grit, Mildred Pierce) who previously scored Cholodenko’s 2010 feature The Kids Are All Right has composed the series’ original music. No word yet on a soundtrack release. Paul Englishby to Score ‘The Musketeers’ Season 2
Paul Englishby has been hired to score the second season of the BBC original series The Musketeers. The show is created by Andrew Hodges (My Week With Marilyn, Primeval) and stars Luke Pasqualino, Tom Burke, Santiago Cabrera, Howard Charles, Peter Capaldi, Maimie McCoy, Tamla Kari and Hugo Speer. The series is set on the streets of 17th century Paris and follows the adventures of Athos, Aramis and Porthos. Hodges is executive producing the project with Jessica Pope. Murray Gold (Doctor Who) has composed the music for the first season, which premiered earlier this year.

Bear McCreary to Score BBC America’s ‘Intruders’
Bear McCreary has been tapped to score the upcoming BBC America original series Intruders. The show is created by Glen Morgan (Final Destination, The X-Files) and stars John Simm, Mira Sorvino, Tory Kittles, James Frain and Millie Brown. The drama is set in the Pacific Northwest and follows a secret society devoted to chasing immortality by seeking refuge in the bodies of others. Morgan is also executive producing the project with Jane Tranter (Criminal Justice) & Julie Gardner (Doctor Who, Torchwood) and Rose Lam (The L Word). Tranter also serves as an executive producer on the McCreary-scored Starz series DaVinci’s Demons. Eduardo Sanchez (The Blair Witch Project, Exists) and Daniel Stamm (13 Sins) have directed the first episodes of Intruders, which is set to premiere on August 23, 2014 and will air every Saturday on BBC America.

Steve Jablonsky (Transformers, Ender’s Game, Gangster Squad) has composed the main theme and Nathan Whitehead (The Purge) is scoring the show. Ilan Eshkeri and Tim Wheeler have composed the score for the biographical mini-series Fleming: The Man Who Would Be Bond. The series is directed by Mat Whitecross (Road to Guantanamo) and stars Dominic Cooper as Ian Fleming, alongside Laura Pulver, Lesley Manville, Rupert Evans, Annabelle Wallis, Anna Chancellor, Samuel West and Camilla Rutherford. The four-parter follows the author’s time with the British Naval Intelligence, which inspired him to invent super-spy James Bond. John Brownlow (Sylvia) and Don MacPherson (Entrapment) have written the script.
