Two new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the monster movie Godzilla directed by Gareth Edwards and starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ken Watanabe, Elizabeth Olsen, Juliette Binoche, Sally Hawkins, David Strathairn and Bryan Cranston. The film’s music is composed and conducted by Alexandre Desplat (The King’s Speech, The Queen, The Grand Budapest Hotel). WaterTower Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score earlier this week. Also opening wide is the sports drama Million Dollar Arm directed by Craig Gillespie, written by Tom McCarthy and starring Jon Hamm, Aasif Mandvi, Bill Paxton, Lake Bell, Suraj Sharma, Madhur Mittal, Pitobash and Alan Arkin. A.R. Rahman (Slumdog Millionnaire, 127 Hours) has composed the film’s original music. Walt Disney Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s songs and score earlier this week. Alexandre Desplat has been tapped to score the upcoming World War II drama Unbroken. The film marks the second directorial effort of Angelina Jolie and stars Jack O’Connell, Garrett Hedlund, Domhnall Gleeson, Jai Courtney and Finn Wittrock. The movie is based on the book Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption by Laura Hildebrand and tells the true story of Lou Zamperini who was a Los Angeles high school track star who raced in the 1936 Berlin Olympics and whose Air Force plane crashed in the Pacific in 1943, where he survived 47 days without food and water. Joel & Ethan Coen (No Country for Old Men, Fargo) have written the screenplay with Richard LaGravenese (The Horse Whisperer, The Fisher King) and William Nicholson (Gladiator, Les Miserables). 
Expected to top the weekend box office is the animated feature The Lego Movie directed by Phil Lord & Chris Miller and featuring the voices of Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Banks, Will Arnett, Liam Neeson, Alison Brie, Nick Offerman, Charlie Day and Morgan Freeman. Mark Mothersbaugh who previously scored Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs and 21 Jump Street for the directors has composed the film’s original music. WaterTower Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as the original song Everything Is AWESOME!!! by Tegan and Sara featuring The Lonely Island. Also opening wide is the historical drama The Monuments Men directed by George Clooney who also stars in the film alongside Matt Damon, Bill Murray, Cate Blanchett, Jean Dujardin, Bob Balaban, Hugh Bonneville and John Goodman. Alexandre Desplat (The King’s Speech, Argo, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) has composed the film’s original music and also has a cameo appearance in the movie.
