Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:

Opening in most theaters is the animated feature Smurfs: The Lost Village directed by Kelly Asbury and starring Demi Lovato, Rainn Wilson, Joe Manganiello, Jack McBrayer, Danny Pudi and Mandy Patinkin. The film’s original music is composed by Christopher Lennertz (Sausage Party, Horrible Bosses). Madison Gate Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as song written by Lennertz & KT Tunstall (click here for the full details). Also now available as a single another original song from the movie, I’m a Lady by Meghan Trainor.

Also opening wide is the crime comedy Going in Style directed by Zach Braff and starring Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Alan Arkin, Ann-Margret, Joey King, Matt Dillon and Christopher Lloyd. Rob Simonsen (Foxcatcher, The Spectacular Now, Nerve) has composed the film’s original music. WaterTower Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as songs by Dean Martin, Otis Redding, Jamie Cullum, Sonny Rollins & more. Weekly TV Music Roundup (September 18, 2016)

Premiering tomorrow, September 19, is the new NBC comedy The Good Place created by Michael Schur (Parks and Recreation) and starring Kristen Bell, Ted Danson, Jameela Jamil, William Jackson Harper, Manny Jacinto and D’Arcy Carden. The show’s original music is composed by David Schwartz (Arrested Development, Northern Exposure, Reaper, Lady Dynamite). Also premiering tomorrow is the CBS comedy Kevin Can Wait created by Bruce Helford, Rock Reuben & Kevin James and starring James himself, Erinn Hayes, Taylor Spreitler, Ryan Cartwright, Mary-Charles Jones, James DiGiacomo, Leonard Earl Howze, Gary Valentine and Lenny Venito. Raney Shockne (The To Do List, Anger Management, Queen of the South) is composing the show’s original music. Premiering today in the U.S. is the British/French TV series The Tunnel based on the Scandinavian drama The Bridge and starring Stephen Dillane and Clémence Poésy. The music from the show’s first season is composed by Adrian Johnston (Becoming Jane, Kinky Boots, Bridesheads Revisited, Dancing on the Edge) and the second season is scored by Ben Bartlett (Walking with Dinosaurs, The Mark of Cain). The drama follows two detectives working together to find a serial killer who left the upper-half body of a French politician and the lower-half of a British prostitute in the Channel Tunnel. Premiering tomorrow, June 20, is the documentary Suited directed by Jason Benjamin and produced by Lena Dunham. Owen Pallett (Her, Life, The Box) has composed the film’s original music. The movie centers on Bindle & Keep, a Brooklyn tailoring company that is known for making custom suits for a growing legion of gender-nonconforming clients. Giorgio Moroder & Raney Shockne to Score Walter Hill’s ‘Tomboy, a Revenger’s Tale’

Giorgio Moroder and Raney Shockne have been hired to score the upcoming crime thriller Tomboy, a Revenger’s Tale. The film is directed by Walter Hill (48 Hrs., The Warriors, Last Man Standing, Red Heat) and stars Michelle Rodriguez, Sigourney Weaver, Tony Shalhoub, Anthony LaPaglia and Caitlin Gerard. The movie follows an assassin, who is double crossed by gangsters and finds himself in the hands of a rogue surgeon who turns him into a woman. Hill has also written the screenplay with Denis Hamill (Critical Condition). Saïd Ben Saïd (Carnage, Passion) is producing the project with Michael Merkt (Maps to the Stars, Elle).

Raney Shockne has been tapped to score the upcoming CBS comedy Kevin Can Wait. The show is created by Bruce Helford, Rock Reuben (The King of Queens, Zookeeper, Here Comes the Boom) and Kevin James who also stars in the series with Erinn Hayes, Taylor Spreitler, Ryan Cartwright, Mary-Charles Jones, James DiGiacomo, Leonard Earl Howze, Gary Valentine and Lenny Venito. The comedy follows a newly retired police officer who looks forward to spending more quality time with his family only to discover he faces much tougher challenges at home than he ever did on the streets.

‘Internet Famous’ Soundtrack Announced

Lakeshore Records has announced a soundtrack album for the comedy Internet Famous. The album features the film’s original score composed by Raney Shockne (Anger Management, The To Do List). Also included are the songs from the movie performed by Skyler Felix, and the film’s Shane Dawson and Wendy McColm. The soundtrack will be released digitally on June 17, 2016 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Internet Famous is directed by Michael Gallagher and also stars Steve Greene, Amanda Cerny, Christian DelGrosso, Richard Ryan, Missi Pyle, John Michael Higgins and Roger Bart. The movie follows the adventures of five fictional Internet personalities as they travel across the country to compete in a talent competition.

Only one new movie is opening nationwide this weekend:

Expected to top the weekend box office is the superhero film The Wolverine directed by James Mangold and starring Hugh Jackman, Famke Janssen, Will Yun Lee, Brian Tee, Svetlana Khodchenkova, Hiroyuki Sanada, Tao Okamoto and Rila Fukushim. The film’s music is composed by Marco Beltrami (World War Z, Scream) who previously scored Mangold’s 3:10 to Yuma. Sony Classical has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music earlier this week. Opening semi-wide is the comedy The To Do List directed by Maggie Carey and starring Aubrey Plaza, Johnny Simmons, Bill Hader, Alia Shawkat, Rachel Bilson, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Andy Samberg, Donald Glover and Connie Britton. Universal Music Enterprises has released a soundtrack album featuring the film’s songs including a number of 90s classics by Tears for Fears, Cranberries, Mazzy Star, House of Love, Elastica, Gin Blossoms and Big Head Todd and the Monsters.
