Music Box Records has announced a new soundtrack album for Jean-Jacques Annaud’s 1988 classic drama The Bear (L’ours). The album features the remastered and expanded original score from the movie composed by Academy Award nominee Philippe Sarde (Tess, The Tenant, Lord of the Flies, Ghost Story), including around 20 minutes of previously unreleased music. Weekly Film Music Roundup (June 1, 2018)
Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the survival drama Adrift directed by Baltasar Kormákur and starring Shailene Woodley and Sam Claflin. The film’s original music is composed by Volker Bertelmann (aka Hauschka) (Lion, Patrick Melrose, Gunpowder, The Current War). Sony Classical has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as Emiliana Torrini’s cover of Tom Waits’ I Hope That I Don’t Fall in Love With You. Also opening wide is the sci-fi thriller Upgrade written and directed by Leigh Whannell and starring Logan Marshall-Green, Betty Gabriel, Harrison Gilbertson and Benedict Hardie. Jed Palmer (OtherLife) has composed the film’s original music. Back Lot Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. Philippe Sarde to Receive Lifetime Achievement Award at Film Fest Gent
Philippe Sarde has been chosen as the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award at this year’s World Soundtrack Awards at the Film Fest Gent. The Brussels Philharmonic will perform his music at the 18th World Soundtrack Awards, which will take place on October 17, 2018. Throughout his career, Sarde has collaborated with directors such as Claude Sautet, Bertrand Tavernier, Roman Polanski, André Téchiné and Jean-Jacques Annaud on films including The Tenant, Tess, Thieves, Nelly & Monsieur Arnaud and Pirates.
‘Rodin’ Soundtrack Details
Cristal Records will release a soundtrack album for the French biographical drama Rodin. The album features the film’s original music composed by Academy Award nominee Philippe Sarde (Tess, The Tenant, Quest for Fire). The soundtrack will be released overseas on May 19 by Cristal Records. Rodin is written and directed by Jacques Doillon and stars Vincent Lindon in the title role, alongside Izia Higelin and Séverine Caneele. The movie tells the story of the revolutionary 19th-century French sculptor, Auguste Rodin, and his relationship with his life-long partner, Rose Beuret, and tumultuous affair with Camille Claudel, his most apt pupil and muse.
‘Quai d’Orsay’ Soundtrack Announced
Quartet Records will release a soundtrack album for the political satire Quai d’Orsay. The album features the film’s original music written by Academy Award-nominated composer Philippe Sarde (Tess, The Tenant). The soundtrack will be released next month and is now available for pre-order on the label’s official website. Quai d’Orsay is directed by Bertrand Tavernier (‘Round Midnight, Coup de torchon) and stars Thierry Lhermitte, Raphaël Personnaz and Niels Arestrupt. The movie follows a dashing, globetrotting French foreign minister whose charm and insouciance mask his utter and complete incompetence. The comedy premiered at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival and will be released in France on November 6, 2013.

Three new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:
Scream 4 reunites director Wes Craven with composer Marco Beltrami. Two different soundtracks have been released for the horror sequel. A score album featuring Beltrami’s music will be released next Tuesday and a song soundtrack with two score tracks is available on Lakeshore Records. Also opening is the animated feature Rio, which already opened in several foreign territories last weekend generating the highest grossing international opening of the year. The film’s score is by John Powell and Sergio Mendes served as the movie’s executive music producer. Rio‘s music team also includes percussionist Carlinhos Brown, lyricist Siedah Garrett, pop singer Taio Cruz and The Black Eyed Peas’ Will.i.am. A score album will be released next week by Varese Sarabande and the official soundtrack featuring the film’s songs is already out on Interscope Records.
‘The Princess of Montpensier’ Soundtrack details
Varese Sarabande Records has announced the details for the upcoming soundtrack release for the French historical drama The Princess of Montpensier. The album includes 15 tracks of Philippe Sarde’s original score from the film. The score was recorded with the Pro Arte Orchestra of London. The soundtrack album will be released on April 5, 2011. The movie directed by Bertrand Tavernier (Round Midnight, In the Electric Mist) centers on the love of Marie de Mezières for her dashing cousin Henri de Guise, thwarted when her father’s political ambitions force her into marriage with the well-connected Philippe de Montpensier, who she has never met. IFC will release The Princess of Montpensier domestically on April 8.
The Goonies score album announced
Varese Sarabande announced their latest CD club releases this morning. The latest batch includes four new albums, which can all be ordered on the Varese webpage.
One of the most requested titles in soundtrack history finally receives a CD release. To coincide with the 25th anniversary of the movie, Dave Grusin’s score for The Goonies directed by Richard Donner and produced by Steven Spielberg is limited to 5000 copies.
