Lakeshore Records will release a soundtrack album for Barry Jenkins’ drama If Beale Street Could Talk. The album features the film’s original music composed by Nicholas Britell (The Big Short, Battle of the Sexes, Succession, Vice) who previously scored the director’s Moonlight, for which he received his first Academy Award nomination. The soundtrack will be released digitally on November 9 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. A vinyl version is also in the works. If Beale Street Could Talk is written and directed by Jenkins and stars KiKi Layne, Stephan James, Regina King, Colman Domingo, Teyonah Parris, Brian Tyree Henry and Michael Beach. The movie is based on James Baldwin’s novel and follows a woman as she races against the clock to prove her fiance’s innocence while carrying their first child to term.

Nicholas Britell is reuniting with director Barry Jenkins on the upcoming drama If Beale Street Could Talk. The movie is written and directed by Jenkins and stars KiKi Layne, Stephan James, Colman Domingo, Pedro Pascal, Brian Tyree Henry, Dave Franco, Ed Skrein, Teyonah Parris, Finn Wittrock, Aunjanue Ellis and Regina King. The movie is based on the 1974 James Baldwin novel of the same nam and revolves around a newly engaged Harlem woman who races against the clock to prove her lover’s innocence while carrying their first child to term. Jenkins is also producing the project with Plan B Entertainment’s Brad Pitt, Jeremy Kleiner & Dede Gardner (12 Years a Slave, Selma).
Nicholas Britell to Score Adam McKay’s ‘Backseat’
Nicholas Britell is reuniting with Adam McKay on the upcoming biographical drama Backseat. The film is written and directed by McKay and stars Christian Bale as Dick Cheney, alongside Amy Adams, Steve Carell, Sam Rockwell, Bill Pullman, Adam Bartley, Tyler Perry, Alison Pill and Lily Rabe. The movie chronicles Cheney’s rise to CEO of the multinational corporation Halliburton and finally becoming what some have called the most powerful U.S. vice president ever to hold office. McKay is also producing the project with Will Ferrell & Kevin Messick (Daddy’s Home) for Gary Sanchez and Brad Pitt & Dede Gardner (12 Years a Slave, Selma, World War Z) for Plan B.

The political drama is created by Jesse Armstrong (In the Loop, Four Lions) and stars Brian Cox, Kieran Culkin, Sarah Snook, Nicholas Braun, Matthew Macfadyen, Hiam Abbas, Alan Ruck, Rob Yang, Parker Sawvers, and Peter Friedman. The show is described as the saga of the Roys, a fictional American global-media family that is not only rich and powerful but also powerfully dysfunctional.
Johann Johannsson Named Film Composer of the Year at World Soundtrack Awards
Johann Johannsson has been named Film Composer of the Year at the 17th World Soundtrack Awards, tonight’s closing event of the 44th Ghent Film Festival for his score for Denis Villeneuve’s Arrival. He was previously nominated in the category in 2015. Nicholas Britell received his first World Soundtrack Award in the Discovery of the Year category for his Academy Award-nominated score from Moonlight. Rupert Gregson-Williams was honored as TV Composer of the year for his work on the Netflix original series The Crown.

‘Battle of the Sexes’ Soundtrack Details
The full details of the soundtrack album for the sports comedy drama Battle of the Sexes have been revealed. The album features the film’s original music composed by Academy Award nominee Nicholas Britell (Moonlight, The Big Short, Free State of Jones, A Tale of Love and Darkness). Also included is the original song If I Dare performed by Sara Bareilles (co-written by the singer/songwriter and Britell), which is already available as a digital single, as well as songs by Elton John, George Harrison & more. The soundtrack will be released physically on September 29, 2017 by Sony Masterworks and can be pre-ordered on Amazon. A digital release will be released later this week (click here to download). The song will be released as a digital single tomorrow and will be available to download on Amazon. A full soundtrack album for the movie will be announced soon.
