George Fenton revealed in an interview with Celluloid Tunes that he has recently recorded his score for the upcoming British drama The Lady in the Van. The film is directed by Nicholas Hytner and stars Maggie Smith, Alex Jennings, Jim Broadbent, Frances De La Tour and Roger Allam. The movie is based on Alan Bennett’s West End stage play and follows an eccentric woman of uncertain origins who “temporarily” parked her broken down van in Bennett’s London driveway
and proceeded to live there for the next fifteen years. Hytner is also producing the BBC Films and TriStar production with Damian Jones (The Iron Lady, Millions, Belle) and Kevin Loader (Venus, Nowhere Boy, In the Loop).

George Fenton Scoring Andy Tennant’s ‘Wild Oats’
George Fenton is reuniting with director Andy Tennant to score the upcoming comedy drama Wild Oats. The film stars Shirley MacLaine, Jessica Lange, Demi Moore, Judd Hirsch, Matt Walsh and Billy Connolly. The movie follows a woman who receives an unexpected windfall check from a computer glitch and goes on the run from the law. Claudia Myers (Fort Bliss) and Gary Kanew have written the screenplay. Blythe Frank (Kettle of Fish) is producing the project for Wild Pictures, alongside Kip Konwiser for the Konwiser Brothers. Fenton and Tennant have previously collaborated on such films as Ever After: A Cinderella Story, Anna and the King, Sweet Home Alabama, Hitch, Fool’s Gold and The Bounty Hunter.

Expected to top the weekend box office is the film adaptation of the YA novel The Maze Runner directed by Wes Ball and starring Dylan O’Brien, Kaya Scodelario, Will Poulter, Aml Ameen and Thomas Brodie-Sangster. Soundtrack Details for Disneynature’s ‘Bears’
Walt Disney Records will release a soundtrack album for the documentary Bears. The album features the film’s original music written by Academy Award-nominated composer George Fenton (Anna and the King, Gandhi, Groundhog Day). The soundtrack will be released digitally on April 29, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Bears is directed by Keith Scholey & Alastair Fothergill and showcases a year in the life of a bear family as two impressionable young cubs are taught life’s most important lessons. The Disneynature production is narrated by John C. Reilly. The documentary is will be released nationwide on April 18 by Walt Disney Pictures.
George Fenton Scoring Ken Loach’s ‘Jimmy’s Hall’
George Fenton is reuniting with director Ken Loach on the upcoming drama Jimmy’s Hall. The movie stars Barry Ward in the title role, alongside Simone Kirby, Jim Norton, Brían O’Byrne and Andrew Scott. The movie is set in 1932 and follows Irish communist leader James Gralton who returns from a decade in New York to re-open the dance hall he built in 1921. Paul Laverty has written the screenplay and Rebecca O’Brien who regularly works with Loach is producing the Sixteen Films, Element Pictures, Why Not Productions and Wild Bunch production. It has been announced that the project will likely be Loach’s final narrative feature.
‘The Zero Theorem’ Soundtrack Details
Milan Records will release the official soundtrack album for Terry Gilliam’s sci-fi drama The Zero Theorem. The album features the film’s original music composed by George Fenton (Dangerous Beauty, Groundhog Day, Hitch) who previously scored the director’s The Fisher King. Also included is the song Creep by Argentine jazz singer Karen Souza. The soundtrack will be released digitally on January 28, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The Zero Theorem stars Christoph Waltz, David Thewlis, Tilda Swinton, Ben Whishaw, Matt Damon, Lucas Hedges, Peter Stormare and Melanie Thierry. The drama follows an eccentric computer genius plagued with existential angst as he works on a mysterious project aimed at discovering the purpose of existence. The movie premiered at last year’s Venice Film Festival and is being released in select international territories over the next few months.

George Fenton to Score Disneynature’s ‘Bears’
George Fenton has been hired to score Disneynature’s upcoming documentary Bears. The film is directed by Alastair Fothergill (Earth, African Cats, Chimpanzee) and Keith Scholey (African Cats) and showcases a year in the life of two mother bears as they impart life lessons to their impressionable young cubs. Set against a majestic Alaskan backdrop teeming with life, their journey begins as winter comes to an end and the bears emerge from hibernation to face the bitter cold. Fenton has previously scored Disneynature’s first release Earth, which was released in 2007. Bears is set to be released on April 18, 2014 by Walt Disney Pictures in time for next Earth Day. George Fenton is currently scoring the upcoming sci-fi drama The Zero Theorem. The film is directed by Terry Gilliam and stars Christoph Waltz, David Thewlis, Tilda Swinton, Ben Whishaw, Matt Damon, Lucas Hedges, Peter Stormare and Melanie Thierry. The movie follows an eccentric computer genius plagued with existential angst as he works on a mysterious project aimed at discovering the purpose of existence. Pat Rushin wrote the screenplay and Dean Zanuck (Road to Perdition, Get Low) is producing the Mediapro Studios production with Nicolas Chartier (The Hurt Locker, Killer Joe, The Company You Keep) of Voltage Pictures. Fenton has previously scored Gilliam’s 1991 drama The Fisher King.
