Weekly Film Music Roundup (May 13, 2016)

Two new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:

Opening in most theaters is the dramatic thriller Money Monster directed by Jodie Foster and starring George Clooney, Julia Roberts, Jack O’Connell, Dominic West, Giancarlo Esposito and Caitriona Balfe. The film’s original score is composed by Dominic Lewis (The Man in the High Castle, Free Birds) and produced by Henry Jackman. Sony Classical and Madison Gate Records have released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music. Click here for the full album details. Also opening wide is the horror thriller The Darkness directed by Greg McLean and starring Kevin Bacon, Radha Mitchell, David Mazouz, Lucy Fry, Matt Walsh and Jennifer Morrison. Johnny Klimek (One Hour Photo, Sense8, Cloud Atlas, The International) has composed the film’s original music. No soundtrack album has been announced. The Darkness (previously entitled 6 Miranda Drive) follows two families who return from a summer camping trip in the Grand Canyon with a supernatural presence in tow. Clint Mansell to Score ‘Loving Vincent’

Clint Mansell has been hired to score the upcoming animated feature Loving Vincent. The film is directed by Dorota Kobiela (Little Postman) & Hugh Welchman (Peter & the Wolf) and features the voices of Douglas Booth, Saoirse Ronan, Jerome Flynn, Chris O’Dowd, Eleanor Tomlinson, Aidan Turner, John Sessions and Helen McCrory. The movie tells the story of the final months and mysterious death of artist Vincent Van Gogh. Hugh Welchman and Ivan Mactaggart (My Week with Marilyn) are producing the project. Welchman has also written the screenplay with Dorota Kobiela.

‘High-Rise’ Soundtrack Details

Silva Screen Records will release a soundtrack album for Ben Wheatley’s sci-fi thriller High-Rise. The album features the film’s original music composed by Clint Mansell (Requiem for a Dream, Black Swan, Noah, Moon, The Wrestler). The soundtrack will be released physically and digitally in Europe on March 18, 2016 and in the U.S. on May 13. High-Rise stars Tom Hiddleston, Jeremy Irons, Sienna Miller, Luke Evans, Elisabeth Moss and James Purefoy. The movie centers on the outbreak of class warfare in a giant residential apartment block following a series of power outages.

Clint Mansell to Score Duncan Jones’ ‘Mute’

Producer Stuart Fenegan announced in a press release that Clint Mansell is set to reteam with Duncan Jones on the director’s upcoming sci-fi thriller Mute. The film will star Paul Rudd, Alexander Skarsgard and Sam Rockwell. The movie is set in in Berlin, forty years from today and follows a mute bartender whose search for a woman takes him deeper into the city’s underbelly, where he encounters an odd pair of American surgeons. Jones (Source Code, Warcraft) has also co-written the screenplay with Mike Johnson. Fenegan (Moon, Warcraft) is producing the project for Liberty Films. Mansell has previously scored Jones’ first feature Moon.

Clint Mansell Scoring Dito Montiel’s ‘Man Down’

Last week, Clint Mansell recorded his score for the upcoming psychological thriller Man Down. The film is directed by Dito Montiel (A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints, Fighting, The Son of No One) and stars Shia LaBeouf, Kate Mara, Jai Courtney and Gary Oldman. The movie follows a haunted Afghanistan war veteran who attempts to come to terms with his past while searching for his family in a post-apocalyptic America. Adam Simon has written the screenplay. Dawn Krantz, Stephen McEveety (The Passion of the Christ, We Were Soldiers, One Eight Seven) and Jon Burton are producing the project.

Clint Mansell is composing the music for the upcoming thriller High-Rise. The film is directed by Ben Wheatley (Sightseers, Kill List, Down Terrace) and stars Tom Hiddleston, Sienna Miller, Jeremy Irons, James Purefoy, Luke Evans, Elisabeth Moss, Reece Shearsmith, Peter Ferdinando and Dan Renton Skinner. The movie is based on J.G. Ballard’s 1975 novel of the same title and follows a young doctor who becomes embroiled in a sinister world in a new residential tower built in 1970s Britain, at the site of what will soon become the world’s financial hub. Amy Jump (Kill List, A Field in England) has written the screenplay.

Two new movies are opening wide this weekend:

Expected to top the weekend box office is the fantasy adventure Maleficent directed by Robert Stromberg and starring Angelina Jolie, Elle Fanning, Sharlto Copley, Imelda Staunton, Sam Riley, Juno Temple and Lesley Manville. James Newton Howard (The Hunger Games, King Kong, The Sixth Sense) has composed the film’s original music. Walt Disney Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music, as well as a new cover version of the song Once Upon a Dream by Lana Del Rey. Also opening wide is the western comedy A Million Ways to Die in the West directed by Seth MacFarlane and starring himself, Charlize Theron, Amanda Seyfried, Giovanni Ribisi, Sarah Silverman, Neil Patrick Harris and Liam Neeson. The film’s original music is composed by Joel McNeely (Holes, Young Indiana Jones Chronicles). Back Lot Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as the end credits song A Million Ways to Die performed by Alan Jackson and the film’s musical number If You’ve Only Got a Moustache. Expected to top the weekend box office is the biblical epic Noah directed by Darren Aronofsky and starring Russell Crowe, Jennifer Connelly, Ray Winstone, Emma Watson, Anthony Hopkins and Logan Lerman. Clint Mansell who previously scored all of the director’s features including Requiem for a Dream, The Fountain, Pi, Black Swan and The Wrestler has composed the film’s original music. Nonesuch Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the score by the composer who collaborated with the Kronos Quartet on the project. Also opening wide is the action thriller Sabotage directed by David Ayer and starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Olivia Williams, Mireille Enos, Sam Worthingtonq, Harold Perrineau, Terrence Howard, Joe Manganiello, Max Martini and Josh Holloway. The film’s original score is composed by David Sardy (21, Zombieland, Premium Rush) who previously collaborated with Sardy on 2012’s End of Watch. No soundtrack album has been announced. Sabotage follows an elite DEA task force that takes on the world’s deadliest drug cartels. The movie is being released by Open Road Films. ‘Noah’ Soundtrack Details

The full details of the soundtrack album for Darren Aronofsky’s biblical epic Noah have been revealed. The album features the film’s original music by the director’s regular musical collaborator Clint Mansell (Requiem of a Dream, Black Swan, The Fountain, The Wrestler) who collaborated with the Kronos Quartet on his score. Also included is the original song Mercy Is performed by Patti Smith. The soundtrack will be released on March 25, 2014 by Nonesuch Records and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Noah starring Russell Crowe, Jennifer Connelly, Ray Winstone, Emma Watson, Anthony Hopkins and Logan Lerman will be released nationwide on March 28, 2014 by Paramount Pictures.

Nonesuch Records will release the official soundtrack album for Darren Aronofsky’s biblical epic Noah starring Russell Crowe, Jennifer Connelly, Ray Winstone, Emma Watson, Anthony Hopkins and Logan Lerman. The album features the film’s original music composed by Clint Mansell (Black Swan, The Wrestler) who collaborated with the Kronos Quartet on his score. The label has previously released the soundtrack albums for Aronofsky’s Requiem for a Dream and The Fountain, both of which featured music by Mansell. The full album details and release date will be announced on this page within the next couple of weeks. Noah is set to be released nationwide on March 28, 2014 by Paramount Pictures.
