Walt Disney Records will release a second soundtrack album for the drama Queen of Katwe. The album features the content of the original soundtrack album, as well as seventeen additional tracks from film’s original score composed by Alex Heffes (The Last King of Scotland, Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, Roots, 11.22.63). The soundtrack will be released digitally on September 23, 2016 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Queen of Katwe directed by Mira Nair and starring David Oyelowo, Lupita Nyong’o and Madina Nalwanga will be released nationwide on September 23 by Walt Disney Pictures.

‘Queen of Katwe’ Soundtrack Details
The full details of the soundtrack album for Mira Nair’s drama Queen of Katwe have been revealed. The album features the film’s original score composed by Alex Heffes (The Last King of Scotland, Roots, 11.22.63, Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom). Also included is the original song Back to Life by Alicia Keys, as well as tracks by HAB and Young Cardamom, MC Galaxy, A Pass, Bobi Wine, Michael Kiwanuka & more. The soundtrack will be released on September 23, 2016 by Walt Disney Records and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Queen of Katwe starring David Oyelowo, Lupita Nyong’o and Madina Nalwanga tells the true story of a young girl selling corn on the streets of rural Uganda who became a Woman Candidate Master after her performance at the World Chess Olympiad.

Premiering tomorrow, May 30, is the History event mini-series Roots directed by Phillip Noyce, Thomas Carter, Mario Van Peebles and Bruce Beresford and starring Forest Whitaker, Anna Paquin, Laurence Fishburne, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Anika Noni Rose, Chad L. Coleman, Erica Tazel, Derek Luke, Malachi Kirby and Regé-Jean. The 4-parter’s original music is composed by Alex Heffes (The Last King of Scotland, Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, 11.22.63). Philip Miller (Catch a Fire) has co-scored the Noyce-directed first episode. Questlove (Top Five) serves as the executive music producer on the project. Alex Heffes to Score History’s ‘Roots’
Alex Heffes has been hired to compose the music for the upcoming History event mini-series Roots. The 8-parter stars Forest Whitaker, Anna Paquin, Laurence Fishburne, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Anika Noni Rose, Chad L. Coleman, Erica Tazel, Derek Luke, Malachi Kirby and Regé-Jean. The drama is based on Alex Haley’s novel of the same title and chronicles the history of an African slave sold to America and his descendants. Phillip Noyce (Patriot Games, Salt), Thomas Carter (Coach Carter), Mario Van Peebles (New Jack City) and Bruce Beresford (Driving Miss Daisy) are directing the episodes.
Soundtrack for Hulu’s ‘11.22.63’ to Be Released
WaterTower Music will release a soundtrack album for the Hulu original series 11.22.63. The album features selections from the show’s original music composed by Alex Heffes (The Last King of Scotland, Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, The Rite, State of Play). The soundtrack will be released digitally tomorrow, April 1, and is now available for pre-order on Amazon, where you can also listen to audio samples. 11.22.63 is based on Stephen King’s 2011 novel of the same title and stars James Franco, Sarah Gadon, Josh Duhamel, T.R. Knight, Daniel Webber, Chris Cooper, Cherry Jones, George MacKay, Lucy Fry, Jack Fulton and Leon Rippy. The show developed by Bridget Carpenter and executive produced by J.J. Abrams follows a high school English teacher who travels back in time to prevent the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.

Opening in most theaters is the sci-fi adventure The Divergent Series: Allegiant directed by Robert Schwentke and starring Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Octavia Spencer, Naomi Watts, Jeff Daniels, Ray Stevenson, Zoë Kravitz, Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort and Maggie Q. The film’s original music is composed by Joseph Trapanese (Oblivion, Straight Outta Compton) who previously scored last year’s Insurgent. Already in theaters since this past Wednesday is the drama Miracles From Heaven directed by Patricia Riggen and starring Jennifer Garner, Queen Latifah, Martin Henderson, John Carroll Lynch, Kylie Rogers and Eugenio Derbez. Carlo Siliotto (The Punisher, Fluke, Nomad: The Warrior) who previously collaborated with the director on Under the Same Moon has composed the film’s original music. Madison Gate Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. Alex Heffes to Score Mira Nair’s ‘Queen of Katwe’
Alex Heffes has been hired to score the upcoming drama Queen of Katwe. The film is directed by Mira Nair (Vanity Fair, The Namesake, Amelia, Monsoon Wedding) and stars Lupita Nyong’o and David Oyelowo. The movie is based on Tim Crothers’ 2011 ESPN The Magazine article and book The Queen of Katwe: A Story of Life, Chess, and One Extraordinary Girl’s Dream of Becoming a Grandmaster and tells the story of Ugandan chess prodigy Phiona Mutes who became a Woman Candidate Master after her performance at the World Chess Olympiad.

Universal Music has released a soundtrack album for Stephen Frears’ biographical drama The Program. The album features the film’s original music composed by Alex Heffes (The Last King of Scotland, Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, State of Play, The Rite). The 9-parter follows a high school English teacher who travels back in time to prevent the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, but his mission is threatened by Lee Harvey Oswald and his falling in love and the past itself. J.J. Abrams (Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Star Trek, Super 8) and King are executive producing the Bad Robot and Warner Bros.
