Justin Hurwitz has received the Golden Globe in the Original Score category for his score for Damien Chazelle’s Babylon at tonight’s 80th Golden Globe Awards ceremony. He previously won the award three times for his score and the song City of Stars from La La Land and his score from First Man. Captain Duckling Records will release the official soundtrack album for the Japanese Netflix original series The Makanai: Cooking for the Maiko House. The album features the show’s original music composed by Yoko Kanno (Cowboy Bebop). The soundtrack will be released digitally in two different versions tomorrow, January 11. The Makanai: Cooking for the Maiko House is written and directed by Hirokazu Kore-eda and stars Nana Mori, Natsuki Deguchi, Aju Makita, Kairi Jyo, Momoko Fukuchi, Kotoko, Wakayanagi, Kotona Minami and Lily Franky. Hildur Guðnadóttir is returning to score the upcoming psychological thriller Joker: Folie à Deux. The sequel to the 2019 Joker film, for which the composer received her first Academy Award, is directed by Todd Phillips and stars Joaquin Phoenix in the title role, Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn and Zazie Beetz who reprises her role of Sophie Dumond. Quartet Records has announced a new soundtrack album for the 1984 drama Thief of Hearts written and directed by Douglas Day Stewart and staring Steven Bauer, Barbara Williams and John Getz. The 2-CD set features the world premiere release of the complete original score from the Don Simpson/Jerry Bruckheimer Films production composed by Harold Faltermeyer (Top Gun, Top Gun: Maverick, Beverly Hills Cop, Fletch, Tango & Cash, The Running Man), as well as unused cues and demos on the first disc and a remastered version of the original 1984 soundtrack album (released by MCA Records), as well as alternate versions of the songs on the second disc. The Cinema Audio Society has announced the nominees for the 59th Annual CAS Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Sound Mixing. For the past couple of years, scoring mixers have been recognized alongside production, re-recording, ADR and foley mixers.
