Silva Screen Records has announced a soundtrack album for the adventure movie The Eagle. The album includes Atli Orvarsson’s original score for the film starring Channing Tatum, Jamie Bell and Donald Sutherland. The soundtrack will be released on February 22, 2011. The movie directed by Kevin Macdonald (Touching the Void, The Last King of Scotland, State of Play) takes place in Roman-ruled Britain, where a young Roman soldier endeavors to honor his father’s memory by finding his lost legion’s golden emblem. Mark Isham to score ‘Dolphin Tale’

Mark Isham revealed in a recent interview on Scorenotes that he just signed on to score the upcoming family drama Dolphin Tale. The movie centers on the friendship between a boy and a dolphin whose tail was lost in a crab trap. The film stars Morgan Freeman, Ashley Judd, Harry Connick, Jr., Kris Kristofferson and Nathan Gamble. Dolphin Tale was shot in 3D and is supposed to feature spectacular underwater sequences. The film is directed by actor turned director Charles Martin Smith, who previously worked with Mychael Danna on his last two theatrical features (The Snow Walker, Stone of Destiny). John Debney has been hired to score the upcoming Garry Marshall-directed romantic comedy New Year’s Eve. The film tells intertwining stories of a group of New Yorkers as they navigate their way through bittersweet drama and romance over the course of New Year’s Eve. The movie follows the concept of 2009’s hit romantic comedy Valentine’s Day with Ashton Kutcher and Jessica Biel reappearing as different characters. The film’s cast also includes Sarah Jessica Parker, Halle Berry, Robert De Niro, Sofia Vergara, Jon Bon Jovi, Hilary Swank, Lea Michele, Zac Efron, Abigail Breslin, Michelle Pfeiffer and Alyssa Milano. John Debney has become Garry Marshall’s regular composer, scoring all of Marshall’s movie in the last decade including The Princess Diaries movies, Raising Helen, Georgia Rule and Valentine’s Day. Hans Zimmer revealed in a recent interview on KCRW that he is currently collaborating with the Mexican music duo Rodrigo y Gabriela on his score for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. Clint Mansell to score ‘Mass Effect 3’

While we don’t usually report video game scoring assignments, we will make exceptions for assignments by high profile film composer. According to a recent interview with Clint Mansell at The Quietus, the composer will score the upcoming game Mass Effect 3, which marks his first video game scoring assignment. The game developed by Bioware is scheduled to come out at the end of this year (watch the debut trailer below). In the interview, Mansell also talks about his work methods, his experience leading his band Pop Will Eat Itself and his collaboration with Darren Aronofsky including his scores for Black Swan, The Wrestler and Requiem for a Dream. Paul Leonard-Morgan scoring ‘Limitless’

Film Music Reporter has learned that composer Paul Leonard-Morgan has taken over scoring duties on the upcoming thriller Limitless. Nico Muhly was the original composer on the movie as reported last year with his name even being listed in the film’s trailer. The final recording sessions for Paul Leonard-Morgan’s score are scheduled to take place this week. Limitless marks the composer’s first big American feature project. Leonard-Morgan’s previous credits include several British TV series, such as MI-5 (aka Spooks) and Silent Witness, as well as a number of British TV documentaries. Film Music Reporter has learned that composer Alex Heffes has stepped in to co-score Catherine Hardwicke’s Red Riding Hood. He will be scoring the film alongside Brian Reitzell, who was announced as the composer and music supervisor on the film last year as reported here. Reitzell is also producing the songs in the movie. Heffes recently worked for the film’s studio on the recent horror thriller The Rite starring Anthony Hopkins. Alan Menken to write music for ‘Captain America’

According to Badass Digest, Alan Menken is involved in Joe Johnston’s upcoming comic book adaptation of Captain America: The First Avenger. The site doesn’t mention any specifics about Menken’s involvment, but it is expected that he would write a song or songs for the time when Captain America is in the USO. There have been many rumors going around about the composer of the score for the movie, but the last thing we’ve heard is that several composers have been approached to write the score, but there is still no official composer on board at this time. We will be posting an update as soon as we’ll find out more information. Joe Johnston previously worked with such composers as James Horner (The Rocketeer), Danny Elfman (The Wolfman), James Newton Howard (Hidalgo), Mark Isham (October Sky) and Don Davis (Jurassic Park III).
