James Levine Scoring NBC’s ‘Do No Harm’

do-no-harmJames S. Levine is scoring the new NBC drama Do No Harm. The series created by David Schulner and stars Steven Pasquale as a highly respected neurosurgeon who iswrestling with his dangerous alter-ego that threatens to wreak havoc on his personal and professional life. Alana De La Garza, Michael Esper, Ruta Gedmintas, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Phylicia Rashad, John Carroll Lynch and Samm Levine are co-starring. Schulner is executive producing the series with Peter Traugott (Samantha Who?), Rachel Kaplan and Jeffrey Reiner (The Event, Friday Night Lights). Three new movies are opening wide this weekend:

hansel-and-gretelExpected to top the weekend box office is the fantasy action adventure Hansel & Gretel Witch Hunters directed by Tommy Wirkola and starring Jeremy Renner, Gemma Arterton, Famke Janssen and Peter Stormare. The film’s music is composed by Atli Orvarsson (Vantage Point, The Eagle, The Fourth Kind). A soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music is now available digitally and will be released next month on La-La Land Records. parker-soundtrackAlso opening wide this weekend is the action thriller Parker directed by Taylor Hackford and starring Jason Statham, Jennifer Lopez, Nick Nolte and Michael Chicklis. The film’s score is composed by David Buckley (The Town, The Forbidden Kingdom). A soundtrack album featuring Buckley’s music is now available digitally and will be released next week on Varese Sarabande. now-you-see-meDavid Sardy has been hired to score the upcoming heist thriller Now You See Me. The movie is directed by Louis Leterrier (The Incredible Hulk, Clash of the Titans) and stars Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Melanie Laurent, Isla Fisher, Woody Harrelson, Dave Franco and Common. The film follows a group of the world’s greatest illusionists who pull off daring bank heists during their performances. Boaz Yakin (Remember the Titans) and Edward Ricour have written the screenplay and Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci (Star Trek, Transformers) are producing via their Kurtzman Orci Paper Products company. inside-llewyn-davisT-Bone Burnett has reunited with Ethan and Joel Coen on their upcoming music-themed drama Inside Llewyn Davis. The movie based on the memoir of folk singer Dave Van Ronk, a friend of Bob Dylan’s and other famous musicians, stars Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan, Justin Timberlake, Garrett Hedlund, F. Murray Abraham and John Goodman. The movie is set in the 1960s Greenwich Village folk music scene and follows a struggling musician from Queens who, despite being a talented singer and guitarist, can’t make ends meet. james-hornerJames Horner has been chosen as the recipient of this year’s Max Steiner Film Music Achievement Award, which will be presented at the annual Hollywood in Vienna Concert at Vienna Concert Hall on October 4, 2013.  The Max Steiner Award honors extraordinary achievements within the genre of film music by the musical capital of Austria, Vienna. Previous recipients of the honor include Alan Silvestri, Howard Shore, Lalo Schifrin and John Barry. Horner has written over 100 film scores including the scores for the two biggest box office hits of all time, Titanic and Avatar. His other credits include Braveheart, A Beautiful Mind, Aliens, Apollo 13Legends of the FallField of Dreams, The Perfect Storm, House of Sand and Fog and The Amazing Spider-Man. ‘Life of Pi’ Music Featurette

life-of-pi20th Century Fox has published a short video featurette about the music for Ang Lee’s 3D adventure drama Life of Pi. The video features composer Mychael Danna talking about his musical approach and his collaboration with the director, as well as footage from the recording sessions at the Newman Scoring Stage on the Fox lot in Los Angeles. Check out the video after the jump. The composer has received a Golden Globe for his music and is nominated for two Academy Awards for his score and the original song Pi’s Lullaby. battle-of-the-yearChristopher Lennertz is scoring the upcoming music-themed drama Battle of the Year: The Dream Team. The film is directed by Benson Lee and is based on his 2007 documentary about the international world of B-boying, also known in the US as breakdancing. The movie starring Josh Holloway, Laz Alonso, Josh Peck, Caity Lotz and Chris Brown centers on an all-star American b-boy crew training to compete in France at the Battle of the Year (BOTY) International Championships. Brin Hill (Won’t Back Down) and Chris Parker (Vampire in Brooklyn) have written the screenplay and Beau Flynn & Tripp Vinson (The Exorcism of Emily Rose, Journey to the Center of the Earth) are producing the project for Contrafilm, along with Amy Lo.  Read the rest of this entry »

Adele to Perform ‘Skyfall’ at Oscars

skyfallThe Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) has announced today that Adele will perform the Oscar-nominated title song from the latest James Bond movie Skyfall at the 85th Academy Awards ceremony. The song, written by Adele and Paul Epworth, is the first Bond theme ever to debut in Billboard’s Top 10 and the first to be nominated for an Oscar since For Your Eyes Only in 1981. Adele’s exclusive Oscar show performance will be the first time she will have performed Skyfall anywhere live and will also mark her first television performance in the US since the Grammys last year. Skyfall is nominated in the Best Original Song category, along with songs from Life of Pi, Les Miserables, Chasing Ice and Ted. Oscars for outstanding film achievements of 2012 will be presented on Sunday, February 24, at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center.

craigslist-joeThe details for a soundtrack album of the documentary Craigslist Joe have been revealed. The album includes the songs featured in the film by artists including The Makepeace Brothers, Davey G. Project, lady danville, Sourgrass and from the movie’s composer David G. Garner. The soundtrack will be released digitally on February 5, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Check out audio clips after the jump. Craigslist Joe presented by Zach Galifianakis and directed by Joseph Garner follows a guy who left everything behind to see if he could survive solely on the support of the 21st century’s new town square: Craigslist. flight-of-the-storksMovieScore Media has released a soundtrack album for the mini-series Flight of the Storks (Le vol des cigognes). The album features the series’ original score written by French composer Eric Neveux (Intimacy, Hideaways). The soundtrack is now available digitally on iTunes, where you can also check out audio clips. Flight of the Storks is based on the 1994 novel by Jean-Christophe Grangné and follows a young academic who teams up with an amateur ornithologist to follow storks on their migration to Africa. The EuropaCorp Television production is directed by Jan Kounen (Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky) and stars Rutger Hauer, Harry Treadaway, Perdita Weeks and Clemens Schick.
