George Fenton is scoring the upcoming HBO original movie Muhammad Ali’s Greatest Fight. The film is directed by Stephen Frears and stars Christopher Plummer, Frank Langella, Benjamin Walker, Danny Glover, Barry Levinson, Pablo Schreiber, Ed Begley Jr., Bob Balaban and Kathleen Chalfant. The movie chronicles Ali’s battle with the Supreme Court over his Muslim beliefs as a conscientious objector during the Vietnam War. Instead of casting an actor to play the boxing legend, the film will utilize actual footage of Ali. The screenplay is written by Shawn Slovo (Captain Corelli’s Mandolin) and Frank Doelger (Game of Thrones), Tracey Scoffield (Dirty Pretty Things) and Jonathan Cameron are executive producing the HBO Films production. Night Fever Music will release the official soundtrack album for Roman Coppola’s indie comedy A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III. The album features the original score from the film composed by Liam Hayes, who has made music under the name Plush since the early 90’s. Also included is a track performed by Jason Schwartzman and a cover of the Brazilian classic Aguas De Marco written by Antonio Carlos Jobim sung by the film’s lead actors Katheryn Winnick & Charlie Sheen. The ensemble all-star comedy Movie 43 produced by Peter Farrelly opened nationwide last weekend. Several composers have composed the score of the different comedy shorts within the film. William Goodrum who has previously contributed music for most of the Farrelly Brothers’ features including There’s Something About Mary, Me, Myself & Irene, Shallow Hal and most recently, The Three Stooges has scored the overarching segment The Pitch starring Dennis Quaid, Greg Kinnear & Common, as well as the shorts Homeschooled directed by Will Graham and starring Naomi Watts & Liev Schreiber, The Proposition directed by Steve Carr and starring Anna Faris & Chris Pratt, Veronica directed by Griffin Dunne and starring Emma Stone & Kieran Culkin, Middle School Date directed by Elizabeth Banks and starring Chloe Grace Moretz & Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Victory’s Glory directed by Rusty Cundieff and starring Terrence Howard. David J. Hodge has written the score for the segment Superhero Speed Dating directed by James Duffy and starring Justin Long, Jason Sudekis & Kristen Bell, while Goodrum provided additional music. Normand Corbeil has passed away at age 56 this past Friday following a battle with pancreatic cancer. The Canadian composer’s best known feature film credits include the 1999 hit thriller Double Jeopardy starring Ashley Judd & Tommy Lee Jones, the Wesley Snipes-starring action thriller The Art of War and the 1995 horror movie Screamers. The composer also scored numerous TV shows and films, including the pilot for ABC’s recent reboot of V and NBC’s mini-series The Last Templar and has received two Emmy Award nominations for the TV movies Human Trafficking and Hitler: The Rise of Evil. He was also known for composing music for high profile video game titles, including Indigo Prophecy and Heavy Rain and was reportedly working on the game/interactive movie Beyond: Two Souls starring Ellen Page. Jóhann Jóhannsson Scoring ‘McCanick’

Jóhann Jóhannsson is currently recording his score for the upcoming crime drama McCanick. The film is directed by Josh C. Waller (Raze) and stars David Morse, Brandon Routh, Cory Monteith, Cirian Hinds and Mike Vogel. The movie follows a narcotics detective who gets caught up in a firestorm of paranoia and violence upon learning that a seemingly harmless young criminal has been released from prison. Daniel Noah has written the screenplay and Waller and Morse are executive producing the project with Ehud Bleiberg (The Iceman, The Band’s Visit). Jóhannsson’s previous film credits include last year’s For Ellen starring Paul Dano and Personal Effects starring Michelle Pfeiffer & Ashton Kutcher. The Icelandic composer is also known for his non-film work, which combines classical orchestration with electronic music. McCanick is currently in post-production and is expected to be released later this year.

Varese Sarabande has announced the details of the soundtrack album for the action thriller Bullet to the Head. The album features the film’s score composed by Steve Mazzaro and produced by Hans Zimmer. The soundtrack will be released on digitally on January 29, 2013 and physically on February 19. Bullet to the Head is directed by Walter Hill and stars Sylvester Stallone as a hitman who forms an alliance with a cop to exact revenge on the killer of their respective partners. Norah Jones to Perform ‘Ted’ Title Song at Oscars

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) has announced today that Norah Jones will perform the Oscar-nominated song Everybody Needs a Best Friend from Universal Pictures’ hit comedy Ted at the 85th Academy Awards ceremony. The song written by the film’s composer Walter Murphy and writer/director & Oscar host Seth MacFarlane is nominated in the Best Original Song category, along with songs from Life of Pi, Les Miserables, Chasing Ice and Skyfall. This will be Jones’s first time performing on an Oscar show. It has previously been announced that Adele will also performing her title song for Skyfall at the event. Oscars for outstanding film achievements of 2012 will be presented on Sunday, February 24, at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center.
‘Sound City’ Soundtrack Details

Roswell Records will release the official soundtrack album for Dave Grohl’s documentary Sound City. As announced last month, the album features 24 original songs, each one composed and recorded exclusively for the film in Grohl and his Foo Fighters’ 606 Studios. The new tracks are written and performed by artists including Paul McCartney, Grohl’s former Nirvana and current Foo Fighters bandmates, Stevie Nicks, Rick Springfield, Trent Reznor, Joshua Homme of Queens of the Stone Age, Rick Nielsen of Cheap Trick, Lee Ving of Fear, Corey Taylor of Slipknot, Brad Wilk and Tim Commerford of Rage Against The Machine. The soundtrack will be released digitally, on CD and on Vinyl on March 12, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon.
