Lorne Balfe (Mission: Impossible – Fallout, Bad Boys for Life, The Lego Batman Movie, Genius, The Crown) has been hired to score the upcoming drama The Forgiven. The film is written and directed by John Michael McDonagh (The Guard, Calvary) and stars Ralph Fiennes, Jessica Chastain, Saïd Taghmaoui, Caleb Landry Jones, Matt Smith, Christopher Abbott, Ismael Kanater, Marie-Josée Croze, Alex Jennings and Abbey Lee. The movie based on the novel of the same title by Lawrence Osborne takes place over a weekend in the High Atlas Mountains of Morocco, and explores the reverberations of a random accident on the lives of both the locals and western visitors to a house party in a grand villa.

Lorne Balfe Scoring John Michael McDonagh’s ‘War on Everyone’
Lorne Balfe is composing the music for the upcoming comedy War on Everyone. The film is written and directed by John Michael McDonagh (The Guard, Calvary) and stars Michael Peña, Alexander Skarsgård, Theo James, Tessa Thompson, Caleb Landry Jones, Paul Reiser, Stephanie Sigman and David Wilmot. The movie follows two corrupt cops who set out to blackmail and frame every criminal unfortunate enough to cross their path until they intimidate someone who is seemingly more dangerous than they are.
‘Calvary’ Soundtrack Announced
Varese Sarabande has announced the details of the soundtrack album for the comedy drama Calvary. The album features the film’s original music composed by Patrick Cassidy (Kill the Irishman, Salem’s Lot) who recorded his music with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra in Dublin. The soundtrack will be released on May 13, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Calvary is written and directed by John Michael McDonagh (The Guard) and stars Brendan Gleeson, Chris O’Dowd, Kelly Reilly, Aidan Gillen, Dylan Moran, Marie-Josée Croze, Isaach De Bankolé, Pat Shortt, David Wilmot and Domhnall Gleeson. The movie follows a good-natured priest whose world is put into disarray after being threatened during a confession. The dramedy premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and was released last week in the UK.
Patrick Cassidy Scoring John Michael McDonagh’s ‘Calvary’
Patrick Cassidy is currently recording his score for the Calvary. The film is written and directed by John Michael McDonagh and stars Brendan Gleeson, Kelly Reilly, David Wilmo, Chris O’Dowd, Domhnall Gleeson and Aidan Gillen. The movie follows a priest who is being tormented by his community and is told in the confessional that somebody is going to kill him within a week. The Reprisal Films production is produced by Chris Clark (Johnny English Reborn), Flora Fernandez-Marengo (The Guard) and Elizabeth Eves. The film marks McDonagh’s second directorial effort following 2011’s Brendan Gleeson-starring The Guard, which featured a score by Calexico. Cassidy is best known for composing the piece Vide Cor Meum for Ridley Scott’s Hannibal, which was also used in the director’s Kingdom of Heaven.
