The album features the original music from the MGM production composed and conducted by Cliff Eidelman (Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered CountryHe’s Just Not That Into YouOne True Thing), including a number of bonus tracks. henry-jackmanHenry Jackman is set to reunite with Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg on the upcoming comedy The Interview. Rogen is also starring in film alongside James Franco and Lizzy Caplan. The movie centers on a talk show host and his producer who find themselves out of their depths when they participate in a plot to assassinate the North Korean prime minister. Rogen and Goldberg have also written the screenplay and are producing the project with James Weaver (Neighbors) for Point Grey Pictures. Jackman has previously collaborated with Rogen and Goldberg on their directorial debut This Is the End, which grossed over $100 Mio. domestically last summer.  Read the rest of this entry »

Steven Price Wins Oscar for ‘Gravity’

imageSteven Price has won his first Academy Award in the Best Original Score category for his music for Alfonso Cuaron’s Gravity. The composer was also nominated for the first time. The other contenders in the category were John Williams (The Book Thief), Alexandre Desplat (Philomena), William Butler & Owen Pallett (Her) and Thomas Newman (Saving Mr. Banks). All six nominated composers were in attendance at the awards ceremony.

In the Best Original Song category, Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez received the award for the song Let It Go from Disney’s Frozen.

sclYesterday afternoon, the Society of Composers & Lyricists (SCL) hosted its annual reception honoring the Academy Award-nominated composers and songwriters in the Best Original Score and Best Original Song category in Beverly Hills. SCL president Ashley Irwin introduced the nominees who briefly spoke to the audience. All six nominated composers in the score category were in attendance, including Alexandre Desplat, nominated for the sixth time for his score for Stephen Frears’ Philomena, who talked about the first Oscar concert this past week and thanked Academy governors Charles Fox and Arthur Hamilton for putting together the event. William Butler and Owen Pallett, nominated for the first time for their music from Her,  were joined at the reception by Arcade Fire members Win Butler and Régine Chassagne and the film’s director Spike Jonze. those-who-killPremiering on Tuesday, March 4, is the new A&E drama Those Who Kill developed by Glen Morgan based on the Danish television series Den som dræber and starring Chloe Sevigny, James D’Arcy, James Morrison and Omid Abtahi. Chromatic’s and Glass Candy’s Johnny Jewel (Bronson) is composing the show’s original score. Those Who Kill follows a newly promoted homicide detective who tracks down a serial killer while coming to terms with her past. The drama will air every Tuesday night on A&E. The film is directed by Thomas Carter and stars Jim Caviezel, Laura Dern, Michael Chiklis and Alexander Ludwig. The movie follows the high school team of De La Salle and its young coach Bob Ladouceur who turned the perennial loser into a legend by launching a streak of 138 straight victories. Scott Marshall Smith (The Score, Men of Honor) has written the screenplay based on the book of the same title by Neil Hayes. ‘Need for Speed’ Soundtrack Details

need-for-speedInterscope Records will release a soundtrack album for the action movie Need for Speed. The album features the original song Hero by Kid Cudi feat. Skylar Grey, as well as two new songs by Aloe Blacc and a new remix of All Along the Watchtower by Jamie N Commons. The soundtrack will be released on March 11, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Need for Speed is directed by Scott Waugh and stars Aaron Paul, Dominic Cooper, Imogen Poots, Scott Mescudi, Ramon Rodriguez, Michael Keaton, Rami Malek, Dakota Johnson and Harrison Gilbertson. The movie based on the video game follows a muscle car mechanic and street racer who gets out of prison determined to settle the score with the man responsible for his false conviction. Two new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:

non-stopExpected to top the weekend box office is the thriller Non-Stop directed by Jaume Collet-Serra and starring  Liam Neeson, Julianne Moore, Anson Mount, Michellle Dockery, Scott McNairy, Lupita Nyong’o and Corey Stoll. The film’s original music is composed by John Ottman (X2The Usual SuspectsValkyrie) who previously scored the director’s features UnknownOrphan and House of Wax. Varese Sarabande has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score digitally earlier this week and a CD version will be coming out on March 4. son-of-godAlso opening wide is the biblical drama Son of God produced by Mark Burnett & Roma Downey and starring Diogo Morgado, Greg Hicks, Adrian Schiller, Darwin Shaw, Sebastian Knapp, Joe Wredden, Simon Kunz and Paul Marc Davis. Hans Zimmer and Lorne Balfe who also scored the mini-series The Bible, which the film is based on, have composed the movie’s original music. Republic Records has released a soundtrack featuring the composer’s score, as well as songs by  Cee Lo Green, OneRepublic, Steven Stern & George Krikes and Hillsong United. The album features the film’s original music composed by Academy Award winner Gabriel Yared (The English PatientThe Talented Mr. Ripley1408). The soundtrack will be released on March 24, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Audio clips are embedded after the jump. Tom at the Farm is co-written and directed by Dolan who also stars in the film alongside Pierre-Yves Cardinal, Lise Roy, Evelyne Brochu, Manuel Tadros, Jacques Lavallee, Anne Caron and Olivier Morin. The French drama about a a gay man who attends his lover’s funeral only to learn that none of his friends and family knew of the deceased’s sexuality nor their relationship premiered at last year’s Venice and Toronto Film Festival and will be released in France next month.
