Eric Serra is reuniting with director Luc Besson on the upcoming sci-fi action thriller Lucy. The movie stars Scarlett Johansson, Morgan Freeman, Choi Min-sik, Analeigh Tipton and Amr Waked. The film follows a female drug mule who gains superhuman powers after the drug she is carrying enters her body. Besson has also written the screenplay and is also producing the EuropaCorp, TF1 Film and Canal Plus production with Christophe Lambert (It Boy). Serra has scored most of Besson’s directorial efforts including Leon: The Professional, The Big Blue, La Femme Nikita, The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc and The Fifth Element. Silva Screen Records will release a soundtrack album for the BBC original movie A Poet in New York. The album features the film’s original music composed and conducted by Debbie Wiseman (Wilde, Adventures of Arsene Lupin) and performed by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. The soundtrack will be released on April 28, 2014 in the UK. A Poet in New York is directed by Aisling Walsh (Room At The Top) and stars Tom Hollander, Essie Davis, Ewen Bremner and Phoebe Fox. The drama captures the last few days of the life of Welsh poet Dylan Thomas in New York with his wistful yearning for the country of his birth. The film is set to premiere later this year on BBC. Randy Newman has been chosen as the recipient of this year’s Max Steiner Film Music Achievement Award, which will be presented at the annual Hollywood in Vienna Concert at Vienna Concert Hall on September 25, 2014. The Max Steiner Award honors extraordinary achievements within the genre of film music by the musical capital of Austria, Vienna. Previous recipients of the honor include James Horner, Alan Silvestri, Howard Shore, Lalo Schifrin and John Barry. Tuomas Kantelinen has been tapped to score the upcoming caper comedy Lost in Austin. The film is directed by Will Raee and stars Linda Cardellini, Jason Lee, Craig Robinson, Skeet Ulrich, Kristen Schaal and Ursula Parker. The movie follows a wife and mother who comes up with a plan to make her family instant celebrities by having her ex-boyfriend kidnap her 11-year-old daughter for a month. Raee has also written the screenplay with Brenna Graziano. Gary Ousdahl is producing the project for Up Late Productions, alongside Suzanne Weinert (ExTerminators) for Flatiron Pictures. Two new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Expected to top the weekend box office is the action movie Need for Speed directed by Scott Waugh and starring Aaron Paul, Dominic Cooper, Imogen Poots, Scott Mescudi, Ramon Rodriguez, Michael Keaton, Rami Malek, Dakota Johnson and Harrison Gilbertson. Interscope Records has released a soundtrack featuring the original song Hero by Kid Cudi feat. Skylar Grey, two new songs by Aloe Blacc and more. Click here for the full details. Nathan Furst (Act of Valor) has composed the film’s original score. Varese Sarabande will release a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music. Also opening wide is the comedy Tyler Perry’s The Single Moms Club written, directed and produced by Perry who also stars in the film alongside Nia Long, Amy Smart, Cocoa Brown, Terry Crews, William Levy and Wendi McLendon-Covey. Christopher Young (Spider-Man 3, The Shipping News, Sinister) who previously scored Tyler Perry’s A Madea Christmas for the filmmaker has composed the film’s original score. No word on a soundtrack album. The comedy follows a group of single mothers from different walks of life bond who create a support group after an incident at their children’s school. WaterTower Music will release a score album for the movie version of Veronica Mars. The album features the film’s original music composed by Josh Kramon who previously scored all three seasons of the cult TV show. The soundtrack will be released tomorrow, March 14, an is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Audio clips are embedded after the jump. As previously reported, the label has also released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from the film. Veronica Mars is written and directed by Rob Thomas and stars Kristen Bell, Jason Dohring, Enrico Colantoni, Percy Daggs III, Chris Lowell, Francis Capra, Krysten Ritter, Gaby Hoffmann and Daran Norris.
