Premiering tonight is the History original mini-series Sons of Liberty directed by Kari Skogland and starring Ben Barnes, Rafe Spall, Michael Raymond-James, Henry Thomas, Ryan Eggold, Marton Csokas, Emily Berrington, Dean Norris and Jason O’Mara. Hans Zimmer (The Dark Knight, The Lion King, Inception, Gladiator) has composed the series’ title theme. Sons of Liberty follows John Adams, Sam Adams, Paul Revere, John Hancock and Joseph Warren as they band together in secrecy to change the course of history and make America a nation. Walt Disney Records will release a soundtrack album for the sports drama McFarland, USA. The album features the film’s original score composed by Antonio Pinto (City of God, Lord of War, The Host, Snitch). Also included is the original end title track Juntos (Together) performed by Grammy-winning singer Juanes, which is already available to download as a single. The soundtrack will be released on February 17, 2015 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. McFarland, USA is directed by Niki Caro (Whale Rider) and stars Kevin Costner, Maria Bello, Morgan Saylor, Martha Higareda, Michael Aguero, Sergio Avelar, Hector Duran, Rafael Martinez, Johnny Ortiz and Carlos Pratts. The movie follows the novice runners from McFarland, an economically challenged town in California, as they build a cross-country team under the direction of a newcomer to their predominantly Latino high school. Tangerine Dream’s Edgar Froese (1944 – 2015)

Tangerine Dream founder Edgar Froese has passed away at age 70. According to the band’s official Facebook page, the composer suddenly and unexpectedly died on January 20 from the effects of a pulmonary embolism in Vienna. Froese founded the electronic music group Tangerine Dream in 1967. In addition to producing dozens of studio albums, the band was best known for composing the score for numerous films, including 1983’s Risky Business starring Tom Cruise, William Friedkin’s Sorcerer, Mihcael Mann’s The Keep and Thief, Ridley Scott’s Legend, 1988’s Miracle Mile, Kathryn Bigelow’s Near Dark, 1984’s Firestarter and 1987’s Three O’Clock High.

Theodore Shapiro has been hired to score the upcoming comedy The Intern. The film is written and directed by Nancy Meyers and stars Robert De Niro, Anne Hathaway, Rene Russo, Zack Pearlman, Adam DeVine, Reid Scott, Andrew Rannells, Anders Holm, Nat Wolff, Linda Lavin and Christina Scherer. The movie centers on a 70-year-old widower who discovers that retirement isn’t all it’s cracked up to be and becomes a senior intern at an online fashion site. H. Scott Salinas is composing the music for the upcoming NBC drama Allegiance. The series follows a young idealistic CIA analyst specializing in Russian affairs whose parents and sister are part of a dormant Russian sleeper cell that has just been reactivated. Last night, the 5th Guild of Music Supervisors Awards were handed out at the Mack Sennett Studios in Hollywood. Dave Jordan received the honor in the Best Music Supervision in Motion Picture – Motion Picture Over 25M for his work on Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy. The film’s soundtrack release on Hollywood Records was also the year’s best-selling title. Season Kent received the award in the Motion Picture Under 25M category for her music supervision on the hit feature The Fault in Our Stars starring Shailene Woodley. In the Independent Motion Pictures Under 10M category, Matt Sullivan and Andrea von Foerster were honored for their work on Begin Again, which just received an Academy Award nomination in the Best Original Song category last week.
