adam-levineAcademy Awards show producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron announced today that Adam Levine will be performing the original song Lost Stars from Begin Again at this year’s Oscars ceremony on February 22. The song written by New Radicals’ Gregg Alexander and Danielle Brisebois is one of the five nominees in the Best Original Song category. Levine who is best known as the lead singer for the group Maroon 5 also made his feature film acting debut in the film directed by John Carney and also starring Keira Knightley and Mark Ruffalo. The 87th Oscars will be held on Sunday, February 22, 2015, at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center in Hollywood, and will be televised live on the ABC Television Network at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT and in more than 225 countries and territories worldwide.

me-and-earl-and-the-dying-girlBrian Eno has composed the music for the upcoming drama Me & Earl and the Dying Girl. The film is directed by Alfonso Gomez-Rejon (American Horror StoryThe Town That Dreaded SundownGlee) and stars Thomas Mann, RJ Cyler, Olivia Cooke, Nick Offerman, Connie Britton and Molly Shannon. The movie through follows a student who is coasting to senior year of high school as anonymously as possible and is forced by his mother to befriend a classmate with leukemia. elserDavid Holmes is reuniting with Oliver Hirschbiegel (Downfall, The Experiment, The Invasion) on the upcoming German drama Elser (13 Minutes). The film starring Christian Friedel, Katharina Schüttler, Burghart Klaußner, David Zimmerschied and Johann von Bülow tells the story of Georg Elser, a German carpenter who had assembled a bomb and plotted an attack on Hitler in November 1939, shortly after the start of World War II. Oliver Schündler & Boris Ausserer of Lucky Bird are producing the project with Fred Breinersdorfer (Sophie School of Delphi. sons-of-libertyPremiering tonight is the History original mini-series Sons of Liberty directed by Kari Skogland and starring Ben Barnes, Rafe Spall, Michael Raymond-James, Henry Thomas, Ryan Eggold, Marton Csokas, Emily Berrington, Dean Norris and Jason O’Mara. Hans Zimmer (The Dark Knight, The Lion King, Inception, Gladiator) has composed the series’ title theme. Sons of Liberty follows John Adams, Sam Adams, Paul Revere, John Hancock and Joseph Warren as they band together in secrecy to change the course of history and make America a nation. The album features the film’s original score composed by Antonio Pinto (City of GodLord of War, The Host, Snitch). Also included is the original end title track Juntos (Together) performed by Grammy-winning singer Juanes, which is already available to download as a single. The soundtrack will be released on February 17, 2015 and is now available for pre-order on AmazonMcFarland, USA is directed by Niki Caro (Whale Rider) and stars Kevin Costner, Maria Bello, Morgan Saylor, Martha Higareda, Michael Aguero, Sergio Avelar, Hector Duran, Rafael Martinez, Johnny Ortiz and Carlos Pratts. Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:

Opening in most theaters is the animated feature Strange Magic directed by Gary Rydstrom, produced by George Lucas and featuring the voices of Alan Cumming, Evan Rachel Wood, Kristin Chenoweth, Maya Rudolph, Sam Palladio, Meredith Anne Bull, Alfred Molina, Elijah Kelley, Bob Einstein and Peter Stormare. Marius de Vries (Moulin Rouge, Kick-Ass) serves as the film’s musical director and has also composed the original score. Hollywood Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from the film performed by the voice cast. the-boy-next-doorAlso opening wide is the thriller The Boy Next Door directed by Rob Cohen, produced by Jason Blum and starring Jennifer Lopez, Ryan Guzman, John Corbett and Kristin Chenoweth. The film’s original music is composed by Randy Edelman who previously scored such films as DragonheartxXx and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor for Cohen and Nathan Barr (True BloodThe Americans). just-like-rainLisbeth Scott has written and produced the original song Just Like Rain for Rob Cohen’s thriller The Boy Next Door. The singer/songwriter/film composer also performs the song, which is now available to download on Amazon. The track will also be featured on her solo record Bird, which is coming out on March 3 and is available for pre-order on iTunes. Check out the official music video after the jump. Scott who has previously written songs for HBO’s True Blood and the features Shutter and The Big Wedding also provides vocals on the film’s original score composed by Randy Edelman & Nathan Barr, which is now available on Varese Sarabande. edgar-froeseTangerine Dream founder Edgar Froese has passed away at age 70. According to the band’s official Facebook page, the composer suddenly and unexpectedly died on January 20 from the effects of a pulmonary embolism in Vienna. Froese founded the electronic music group Tangerine Dream in 1967. In addition to producing dozens of studio albums, the band was best known for composing the score for numerous films, including 1983’s Risky Business starring Tom Cruise, William Friedkin’s Sorcerer, Mihcael Mann’s The Keep and Thief, Ridley Scott’s Legend, 1988’s Miracle Mile, Kathryn Bigelow’s Near Dark, 1984’s Firestarter and 1987’s Three O’Clock High.

theodore-shapiroTheodore Shapiro has been hired to score the upcoming comedy The Intern. The film is written and directed by Nancy Meyers and stars Robert De Niro, Anne Hathaway, Rene Russo, Zack Pearlman, Adam DeVine, Reid Scott, Andrew Rannells, Anders Holm, Nat Wolff, Linda Lavin and Christina Scherer. The movie centers on a 70-year-old widower who discovers that retirement isn’t all it’s cracked up to be and becomes a senior intern at an online fashion site. Meyers is also producing the film with Scott Rudin (No Country for Old Men, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Captain Phillips) and Suzanne McNeill Farwell. Read the rest of this entry »

imageH. Scott Salinas is composing the music for the upcoming NBC drama Allegiance. The show is created by George Nolfi (The Adjustment Bureau) and stars Hope Davis, Scott Cohen, Gavin Stenhouse, Margarita Levieva, Morgan Spector, Kenneth Choi and Alex Peters. The series follows a young idealistic CIA analyst specializing in Russian affairs whose parents and sister are part of a dormant Russian sleeper cell that has just been reactivated. Nolfi is also executive producing the Universal Television, Keshet Media and Yes! production with Avi Nir (Homeland, Tyrant), Ron Leshem, Amit Cohen, Giyora Yahalom, Yona Wiesenthal, John Glenn (Hatfield & McCoys, Eagle Eye) and Rashad Raisani.
