Robert Drasnin (1927 – 2015)

bob-drasninVariety is reporting that Robert Drasnin passed away this past Wednesday at age 87. The composer is best known for scoring numerous TV show episodes between the 1950s and 1980s, including Mission: Impossible, The Twilight Zone, Hawaii Five-0, Lost in Space, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., I Spy, The Wild Wild West, Mannix, Cannon, The Streets of San Francisco, Police Story and CHiPs. His feature film credits include the 1970 thriller The Kremlin Letter directed by John Huston, the 1973 horror thriller The Candy Snatchers and 1966 western Ride in the Whirlwind starring Jack Nicholson. He also composed the music for numerous TV movies and served as a director of music for CBS Television from 1977 to 1991. Read the rest of this entry »

The album features the film’s original music composed by Joseph Bishara (The ConjuringAnnabelle) who previously scored the first two parts in the series. The soundtrack will be released digitally on June 5, 2015 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. mad-max-fury-roadOpening in most theaters is the action movie Mad Max: Fury Road directed by George Miller and starring Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult, Hugh Keays-Byrne, Nathan Jones, Zoë Kravitz, Riley Keough, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Abbey Lee and Courtney Eaton. Tom Holkenborg (Junkie XL) has composed the film’s original music. snowdenCraig Armstrong revealed in a recent interview with DIY that he will be reuniting with Oliver Stone on the upcoming biographical drama Snowden. The film directed by Stone (Born on the Fourth of JulyJFKWall StreetPlatoon) stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Shailene Woodley, Scott Eastwood, Melissa Leo, Nicolas Cage, Timothy Olyphant, Zachary Quinto and Tom Wilkinson. The movie is based on the books The Snowden Files: The Inside Story of the World’s Most Wanted Man by Luke Harding and Time of the Octopus by Anatoly Kucherena, which chronicles Edward Snowden’s time in Russia hoping to get asylum while the United States was demanding his extradition. Stone also co-wrote the screenplay with Kieran Fitzgerald (The Homesman). (BMI), held its annual Film & TV Awards at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. Alexandre Desplat was honored with the Icon Award, which is bestowed on composers who have made significant contributions to the realm of film and television music. The composer who received his first Academy Award earlier this year for Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel and whose other scoring credits include The Curious Case of Benjamin ButtonHarry Potter and the Deathly HallowsGodzillaThe Girl with the Pearl EarringZero Dark Thirty and The Tree of Life was presented the award by the night’s hosts, BMI Vice President, Film/TV Relations, Doreen Ringer-Ross and BMI President & CEO Mike O’Neill. Several of Desplat’s regular collaborators congratulated him via a tribute video, including Stephen Frears (PhilomenaThe QueenTamara Drewe), Tom Hooper (The King’s Speech), Morten Tyldum (The Imitation Game) and Wes Anderson (Moonrise KingdomThe Fantastic Mr. Fox). The film is directed by Owen Harris and stars Nicholas Hoult, James Corden, Craig Roberts, Rosanna Arquette, Tom Riley and Ed Skrein. The movie follows a 27-year-old A&R man who is slashing and burning his way through London’s music industry and goes to extremes in search of the next megahit. John Niven (Cat Run) wrote the screenplay based on his 2008 novel of the same title. extantJeff Russo and Ben Decter are the new composers of the CBS series Extant. The show is created by Mickey Fisher and stars Halle Berry, Goran Visnjic, Pierce Gagnon, Camryn Manheim and Grace Gummer. Jeffrey Dean Morgan has also joined the cast of season 2. The show follows a female astronaut who discovers she has unwittingly put the human race on a path to destruction, and that she and a mysterious stranger may be the only hope for survival. amnesiaLucien Nicolet has recently scored the upcoming drama Amnesia. The film is directed by Barbet Schroeder and stars Marthe Keller, Max Riemelt, Bruno Ganz, Joel Basman and Corinna Kirchhoff. The movie is set in Ibiza and follows a 25 year-old music composer who wants to be part of the nascent electronic music revolution, ideally by getting a job first as a DJ in the new nightclub on the island, Amnesia. Schroeder also co-wrote the screenplay with Emilie Bickerton, Peter Steinbach and Susan Hoffman. ripper-streetSilva Screen Records will release a soundtrack album for the BBC series Ripper Street. The album features selections from the show’s original music composed by Dominik Scherrer (Primeval, The Missing). The soundtrack will be released overseas on June 15 and is now available as an import on Amazon. Ripper Street is created by Richard Warlow (Mistress) and stars Matthew Macfadyen, Jerome Flynn, Adam Rothenberg, Myanna Buring and David Dawson.The series is set in and around Whitechapel in London’s East End in 1889 during the aftermath of the Jack the Ripper murders and centers on the notorious H Division, which is charged with keeping order in the chaotic East London streets.  Read the rest of this entry »
