Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman are set to compose original songs for a new Mary Poppins feature, which is currently in development at Disney. They will also be writing a new score. Rob Marshall (Chicago, Into the Woods, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides) is attached to direct the movie, which is set 20 years after actions of the 1964 classic movie and will be based in parts on P.L. Travers’ book series. David Magee (Life of Pi, Finding Neverland) is writing the screenplay and John DeLuca (Into the Woods, Nine) and Marc Platt (Drive, Wanted, Legally Blonde) are producing the Walt Disney Pictures production. WaterTower Music will release a soundtrack album for Nancy Meyers’ comedy The Intern. The album features the film’s original music composed by Theodore Shapiro (The Devil Wears Prada, Tropic Thunder, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, Marley & Me). Also included are the songs from the film by artists including Ray Charles, Gene Kelly, Benny Goodman, Billie Holiday & more. The soundtrack will be released digitally on September 18, 2015 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Roque Banos is set to reteam with director Fede Alvarez on the upcoming horror thriller A Man in the Dark. The film starring Dylan Minnette, Daniel Zovatto, Stephen Lang and Jane Levy follows a group of teens who break into a blind man’s home thinking they will get away with the perfect crime. Alvarez has also written the screenplay with Rodo Sayagues. Sam Raimi (Spider-Man, Oz the Great and Powerful, Drag Me to Hell) is producing the project for his Ghost House Pictures company alongside Rob Tapert (The Grudge, Xena: Warrior Princess). Murphy, Sarah White, Ethan Griffiths, Elen Rhys and Brian F. O’Byrne. The show’s original music is composed by Bob Thiele who previously scored FX’s Sons of Anarchy for Sutter. The series centers on a 14th century warrior, whose life is changed when a divine messenger orders him to lay down his sword and lead the life of a journeyman executioner. ‘Ma Ma’ Soundtrack Announced

Quartet Records has announced soundtrack album for the Spanish drama Ma Ma. The album features the film’s original music composed by Academy Award nominee Alberto Iglesias (The Constant Gardener, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, The Kite Runner, Exodus: Gods and Kings). The soundtrack is now available to download on Amazon, where you can also check out the full album details and listen to audio clips. Ma ma is directed by Julio Medem (Sex & Lucia) and stars Penélope Cruz, Luis Tosar and Asier Etxeandia. The Creative Arts Emmy Awards were handed out this afternoon at the Microsoft Theatre LA LIVE in Downtown Los Angeles. Dustin O’Halloran won his first Emmy Award for both his main titles theme from Amazon Studios’ Transparent. Jeff Beal was honored with his first Emmy for his work on Netflix’s House of Cards in the Outstanding Music Composition for a Series category after being nominated three times before for his score and theme for the series in the previous two years. The composer previously received three Emmys for Monk, Nightmares & Dreamscapes and The Company. Rachel Portman took home her first Emmy Award for her music for the HBO original movie Bessie. SCL Hosts Reception for Emmy-Nominated Composers & Songwriters

Last night, the Society of Composers & Lyricists (SCL) hosted its annual reception honoring the Emmy Award-nominated composers and songwriters in the music-related categories at the Montage hotel in Beverly Hills. SCL president Ashley Irwin, as well as Television Academy music peer group governors Rickey Minor and Michael A. Levine introduced the nominees who briefly spoke to the audience. Among the composers in the Outstanding Music Composition for a Series category present at the event were previous Emmy winners Jeff Beal who received his fourth Emmy nomination this year for his music for Netflix’s House of Cards and his fifteenth nomination overall, as Bear McCreary who received his first nomination for Starz’s Outlander and his fourth nomination within the past six years. Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the horror thriller The Visit written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan, produced by Jason Blum and starring Kathryn Hahn, Deanna Dunagan, Peter McRobbie, Ed Oxenbould and Olivia DeJonge. The movie doesn’t feature an original score except for short piano track for the movie’s epilogue scene written by Paul Cantelon (The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, W.). Also opening wide is the thriller The Perfect Guy directed by David M. Rosenthal and starring Sanaa Lathan, Michael Ealy, Morris Chestnut, Charles S. Dutton, Tess Harper, Kathryn Morris, Rutina Wesley and Holt McCallany. Atli Orvarsson (Vantage Point, Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, Chicago Fire) and Dave Fleming have composed the film’s original music. Madison Gate Record has released a soundtrack album featuring the composers’ music today.
