The only movie opening nationwide this week is Solo: A Star Wars Story directed by Ron Howard and starring Alden Ehrenreich, Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Donald Glover, Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Paul Bettany. The film’s original score is composed by John Powell (How to Train Your Dragon, The Bourne Identity) and John Williams  (Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark) contributed the Han Solo theme. Walt Disney Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composers’ music. Opening in limited release is the sci-fi comedy How to Talk to Girls at Parties directed by John Cameron Mitchell and stars Elle Fanning, Alex Sharp, Nicole Kidman and Ruth Wilson. Nico Muhly (The Reader, Margaret), Jamie Stewart of Xiu Xiu and Matmos have written original music for the film. Sony Classical has released a soundtrack album featuring the original music, as well as tracks by The Damned, The Dyschords, The Velvet Underground, A.C. Newman & others. ‘Shock and Awe’ Soundtrack Details

Varese Sarabande will release a soundtrack album for the political drama Shock and Awe. The album features the film’s original music composed by Emmy Award winner Jeff Beal (House of Cards, Rome, Monk, Appaloosa, Pollock, Ugly Betty). The soundtrack will be released on July 13, 2018 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Shock and Awe is directed by Rob Reiner and stars Woody Harrelson, James Marsden, Tommy Lee Jones, Reiner himself, Milla Jovovich, Jessica Biel, Luke Tennie and Richard Schiff. The movie tells the story about the real-life journalists who first looked into the Bush Administration’s attempts to tie Saddam Hussein to the 9/11 terror attacks despite a lack of true evidence to support the claim. The album features the film’s original music composed by Nathan Whitehead (The Purge, Keanu, Beyond Skyline, The Veil, Stephanie). Delirium is directed by Dennis Iliadis and stars Topher Grace, Patricia Clarkson, Callan Mulvey, Genesis Rodriguez and Robin Thomas Grossman. The movie produced by Jason Blum, Graham King & Leonardo DiCaprio centers on a man who was recently released from a mental institute and inherits a mansion from his parents and comes to believe it is haunted. ‘Hearts Beat Loud’ Soundtrack Details

The full details of the soundtrack album for Brett Haley’s musical comedy drama Hearts Beat Loud have been revealed. The album features the film’s original songs written by Keegan DeWitt (Divorce, Gemini, Morris from America) who also provided the movie’s score and previously composed the music for the director’s I’ll See You in My Dreams and The Hero. The soundtrack will be released digitally and physically on June 8 by Milan Records and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The first tracks from the album performed by DeWitt & Kiersey Clemons is already available to download here. Hearts Beat Loud is co-written and directed by Haley and stars Nick Offerman, Kiersey Clemons, Ted Danson, Sasha Lane, Blythe Danner and Toni Collette. ‘Luis and the Aliens’ Soundtrack Released

Cinetunes has released a soundtrack album for the animated feature Luis and the Aliens. The album features the film’s original music composed by Martin Lingnau & Ingmar Süberkrüb, as well as the original song Say Hey written by the composers and performed by Paul Köninger. The soundtrack is now available to download on Amazon, where you can also check out audio samples. Luis and the Aliens is written and directed by Wolfgang Lauenstein & Christoph Lauenstein, co-directed by Sean McCormack and tells the story of Luis, a 12-year-old boy who makes friends with three little aliens who crash their spaceship near Luis’ house. The album features the film’s original music composed by Harry Gregson-Williams (The Chronicles of Narnia, The Martian, Shrek, Kingdom of Heaven, Man on Fire). The soundtrack will be released digitally tomorrow, May 25 and will be available to download on Amazon, where you can also listen to audio samples. Breath is co-written and directed by Baker who also stars in the movie alongside Samson Coulter, Ben Spence and Elizabeth Debicki. The movie is based on the best-selling novel by Tim Winton and follows a 13-year-old thrill-seeker in a coastal Australian town who finds both exhilaration and danger when he is taken under the wing of a pro surfer. Jon Brion has signed on to score the upcoming family family drama Christopher Robin. The film is directed by Marc Forster (Finding Neverland, World War Z, Monster’s Ball) and stars Ewan McGregor, Hayley Atwell, Bronte Carmichael, Mark Gatiss, Jim Cummings, Chris O’Dowd, Brad Garrett, Toby Jones, Nick Mohammed, Peter Capaldi and Sophie Okonedo. John Powell accepting the Henry Mancini Award

Last night, the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) held its annual Screen Music Awards at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills. John Powell (Solo: A Star Wars Story, The Bourne Identity, Happy Feet, Shrek) was honored with the ASCAP Henry Mancini Award for his outstanding achievements and contributions to the world of film and television music. The composer was presented the award by Dean DeBlois, director of How to Train Your Dragon, for which Powell received his first Academy Award nomination and who is currently working with the composer on the third part of the animated franchise. Sony Classical will release a soundtrack album for the thriller In Darkness. The album features the film’s original music composed by Niall Byrne (Cairo Time, Parked, Hatton Garden). The soundtrack will be released digitally tomorrow, May 25 and will be available to download on Amazon. In Darkness is directed by Anthony Byrne and stars Natalie Dormer (who also co-wrote the screenplay), Ed Skrein, Emily Ratajkowski, Neil Maskell, Jan Bijvoet, James Cosmo and Joely Richardson. The movie follows a blind pianist who gets pulled into London’s dark underbelly after she overhears a struggle in the apartment above hers that leads to the death of her neighbor.
