Deadline is reporting that Grammy Award-nominated singer/songwriter Justin Tranter is writing and producing original songs for the upcoming Netflix original film Purple Hearts. The movie is directed by Elizabeth Allen Rosenbaum (Ramona and Beezus, Aquamarine) and stars Sofia Carson (who is also co-writing and performing additional music for the project), Nicholas Galitzine, Chosen Jacobs, John Harlan Kim, Anthony Ippolito, Kat Cunning, Scott Deckert, Sarah Rich and Linden Ashby. The romantic drama is based on the novel of the same title by Tess Wakefield and tells the story of an aspiring singer-songwriter and a marine who in spite of their many differences and against all odds, fall hopelessly in love. Michael Kiwanuka has recorded the original song Beautiful Life for the new Netflix documentary Convergence: Courage in a Crisis. The track is written and performed by the Grammy Award-nominated singer/songwriter and will be featured in the film directed by Academy Award winner Orlando von Einsiedel (The White Helments, Virgunga) who spotlights a cross-section of global citizens in the COVID-19 crisis. A first clip from the song is featured in the trailer embedded after the jump. The director’s regular composer Patrick Jonsson (Black Earth Rising, On Her Shoulders) has written the original score for the movie, which spans eight countries and nine individual stories and reveals the power of compassion and community in the face of a crisis. The film is directed by Anthony & Claire Bueno (Cleanin’ Up The Town) and centers on the making-of the 1989 sequel. The movie will feature interviews with director/producer Ivan Reitman, stars Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Ernie Hudson & Sigourney Weaver, producers Joe Medjuck & Michael C. The show’s original score is composed by Meshell Ndegeocello (Queen Sugar, Our Kind of People, Lackawanna Blues, Disappearing Acts). G-Unit Records has released the drama’s theme song Wish Me Luck by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson feat. Snoop Dogg, Moneybagg Yo and Charlie Wilson.
