Weekly Film Music Roundup (April 5, 2024)

Opening in theaters nationwide this weekend is the supernatural horror prequel The First Omen co-written and directed by Arkasha Stevenson and starring Nell Tiger Free, Tawkeef Barhom, Ralph Ineson, Sonia Braga and Bill Nighy. The film’s original music is composed by Mark Korven (The Witch, The Lighthouse, The Black Phone, Cube, Night Swim, Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, The Peripheral). Hollywood Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score today. Also opening nationwide is the action thriller Monkey Man directed by Dev Patel and starring Patel himself, Sharlto Copley, Pitobash, Vipin Sharma, Sobhita Dhulipala, Adithi Kalkunte and Ashwini Kalsekar. Jed Kurzel (Alien: Covenant, The Babadook, Overlord, Macbeth, The Oxford Murders, The Pope’s Exorcist, The Mustang, Assassin’s Creed) has composed the film’s original music. Back Lot Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as songs by Sneha Khanwalkar today. ‘The Greatest Hits’ Soundtrack Album Details

Hollywood Records has announced the details of the soundtrack album for Ned Benson’s romantic drama The Greatest Hits. The album features the original song Never Lost co-written (with the film’s composer Ryan Lott) and performed by Nelly Furtado, as well as tracks by Roxy Music, Beach House, NEIL FRANCES, Tune-Yards, Peggy Lee & others. Also included are selections of the movie’s original score composed by Lott (Everything Everywhere All at Once, The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby). The soundtrack will be released as a 2-LP color vinyl album on April 12. Visit Amazon to pre-order the album. Hollywood Records has announced a score album romantic drama The Greatest Hits. The album features the film’s original score written by Academy Award-nominated composer/Son Lux founding member Ryan Lott (Everything Everywhere All at Once, The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby, Paper Towns, Mean Dreams, Single Drunk Female). The soundtrack will be released digitally on April 12. Check back on this page for the streaming/download link and listen to a four-track sampler after the jump. The label will also release a separate album on vinyl featuring both the songs and score from the movie on the same day. The Greatest Hits is written and directed by Ned Benson and stars Lucy Boynton, Justin H. Min, David Corenswet and Austin Crute. The movie follows a woman who experiences a unique connection between art and reality when she discovers that specific songs have the power to transport her back in time, driving her to relive various special moments with her ex-boyfriend.

The show’s original score is composed by Amanda Jones (Naomi, Twenties, Good Trouble, Adventure Time: Distant Lands, Cherish the Day). The comedy, which centers on a true Kansan on the surface who struggles to fit the hometown mold, will air every Sunday night on HBO and will also be available to stream on HBO Max.

Premiering on Tuesday, January 18, is the Hulu original series How I Met Your Father developed by Isaac Aptaker & Elizabeth Berger and starring Hilary Duff, Kim Cattrall, Francia Raisa, Chris Lowell, Suraj Sharma, Tom Ainsley and Tien Tran. Jeff Cardoni (Silicon Valley, The Kominsky Method, CSI: Miami, Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, Heels) is composing the show’s original score. Ryan Lott (of Son Lux) (The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby, Paper Towns, Mean Dreams) & Keir Schmidt have teamed up to score the new Freeform original series Single Drunk Female. The show is created by Simone Finch and stars Sofia Black-D’Elia, Ally Sheedy, Rebecca Henderson, Sasha Compère, Lily Mae Harrington and Garrick Bernard. The comedy revolves around a 20-something alcoholic who – after a public flame-out at a New York media company – is forced to seize the only chance she has to sober up and avoid jail time by moving back home with her overbearing mother.

Two new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:

Opening in most theaters is Disney’s live action adaptation of Beauty and the Beast directed by Bill Condon and starring Emma Watson, Dan Stevens, Luke Evans, Kevin Kline, Josh Gad, Ewan McGregor, Stanley Tucci, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Ian McKellen, Audra McDonald and Emma Thompson. The film’s original music is composed by Alan Menken (The Little Mermaid, Aladdin). He also wrote the movie’s classic songs with Howard Ashman and the new songs with lyricist Tim Rice. Also opening wide is the horror thriller The Belko Experiment directed by Greg McLean, written and produced by James Gunn and starring Tony Goldwyn, John Gallagher Jr., Adria Arjona, Michael Rooker, John C McGinley, Sean Gunn and Melonie Diaz. Tyler Bates (Guardians of the Galaxy, 300, Watchmen, Dawn of the Dead) has composed the film’s original score. Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as two songs performed by Jose Prieto and Gabriela Teran. A soundtrack will be released for the crime thriller Mean Dreams. The album features the film’s original music composed by Ryan Lott (aka Son Lux) (The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby, Paper Towns). The soundtrack will be released digitally on March 31, 2017 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Mean Dreams is directed by Nathan Morlando and stars Bill Paxton, Sophie Nélisse, Josh Wiggins and Colm Feore. The movie follows two teenagers desperate to escape their broken and abusive homes as they embark on a journey that will change their lives forever. The thriller premiered at last year’s Cannes Film Festival and will be released in select theaters and on VOD this weekend by Vertical Entertainment.

Son Lux aka Ryan Lott has recently composed the original music for the upcoming crime thriller Mean Dreams. The film is directed by Nathan Morlando (Citizen Gangster) and stars Josh Wiggins, Sophie Nélisse, Bill Paxton and Colm Feore. The movie follows a 15-year-old boy who steals a bag of drug money and runs away with the girl he loves while her violent and corrupt cop father hunts them down. Kevin Coughlin and Ryan Grassby have written the screenplay. William Woods and Allison Black are producing the project.

‘Paper Towns’ Score Album Announced

Fox Music will release a score album for the film adaptation of John Green’s novel Paper Towns. The album features the film’s original music composed by Ryan Lott aka Son Lux (The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby) who recorded his score with a 36-piece string orchestra at Capitol Records. The soundtrack will be released digitally this Friday, August 7 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Visit Soundcloud to listen to three tracks from the score. A separate soundtrack featuring the songs from the movie has previously been released by Atlantic Records. Paper Towns is directed by Jake Schreier and stars Nat Wolff, Cara Delevingne, Halston Sage, Austin Abrams, Jaz Sinclair and Justice Smith.
