La-La Land Records has announced a new soundtrack album for the 1983 James Bond movie Never Say Never Again directed by Irvin Kershner and starring Sean Connery, Klaus Maria Brandauer, Max von Sydow, Kim Basinger, Barbara Carrera, Alec McCowen, Bernie Casey and Edward Fox. The album features the remastered and expanded original score from the film composed, arranged and conducted by Academy Award winner Michel Legrand (The Thomas Crown Affair, Yentl, Summer of ’42,, The Umbrellas of Cherbourg, Ice Station Zebra, The Go-Between), including previously unreleased music Also included is Lani Hall’s title song written by Legrand and lyricists Alan & Marilyn Bergman. The 2-CD set, which is limited to 5,000 copies, is now available to order on the label’s official website, where you can also find out more about the release.

Les Films 13 has released the first-ever soundtrack album for the 2002 French/British romantic thriller And Now Ladies & Gentlemen co-written and directed by Claude Lelouch and starring Jeremy Irons, Patricia Kaas, Thierry Lhermitte and Alessandra Martines. The album features the film’s original score composed by Academy Award winner Michel Legrand (The Thomas Crown Affair, Summer of ’42, Yentl, Never Say Never Again, The Umbrellas of Cherbourg). The soundtrack is now available to stream/download on Amazon (and most other major digital music services), where you can also check out the track list. ‘May December’ Soundtrack Album Released
Netflix Music has released a soundtrack album for the drama May December. The album features the music from the film, including original score cues composed by Marcelo Zarvos (Fences, Wonder, The Equalizer 3, Emancipation, The Affair, Ray Donovan), as well as tracks from the 1971 feature The Go-Between written by Michel Legrand (The Thomas Crown Affair, Never Say Never Again, Summer of ’42, Yentl), which have been adapted by Zarvos into his score. ‘Yentl’ 40th Anniversary Deluxe Edition Soundtrack Album Announced
Columbia Records will release a new soundtrack album for the 1983 musical drama Yentl co-written and directed by Barbra Streisand and starring Streisand herself, Mandy Patinkin and Amy Irving. The album features the Streisand-performed original songs from the movie written by Michel Legrand (The Thomas Crown Affair, Summer of ’42, Never Say Never Again The Umbrellas of Cherbourg) and featuring lyrics by Alan Bergman & Marilyn Bergman, including previously unreleased demos that Streisand recorded in her living room accompanied by Legrand on piano. The album features the film’s original music composed by Academy Award winner Michel Legrand (The Thomas Crown Affair, Yentl, Summer of ’42, The Umbrellas of Cherbourg, Never Say Never Again). Michel Legrand (1932 – 2019)
Michel Legrand has passed away today at age 86 in Paris, France. The composer has written over 200 film/TV scores and songs over a five-decade spanning career. He received three Academy Awards for his scores for Robert Mulligan’s Summer of ’42 and Barbra Streisand’s Yentl and the song The Windmills of Your Mind from Norman Jewison’s The Thomas Crown Affair. He was Oscar-nominated several other times for his music Jacques Demy’s The Umbrellas of Cherbourg & The Young Girls of Rochefort, songs from Richard Brooks’ The Happy Ending, Daniel Haller’s Pieces of Dreams and Norman Jewison’s Best Friends.
‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’, ‘Mandy’ & ‘The Other Side of the Wind’ Scores Ruled Ineligible for Academy Awards
Variety is reporting that in addition to Green Book, three more scores have been ruled ineligible by the Academy’s music branch. Among ineligible titles are Solo: A Star Wars Story (composed by John Powell with themes by John Williams), which was reportedly submitted too late, Mandy (composed by Johann Johannsson), which violated the rule of its qualifying theatrical release (as the movie was released on VOD simultaneously), and The Other Side of the Wind (composed by Michel Legrand), which didn’t meet the same rule that Green Book was disqualified for.

Expected to top the weekend box office is the biographical drama Bohemian Rhapsody directed by Bryan Singer and starring Rami Malek, Lucy Boynton, Gwilym Lee, Ben Hardy, Joseph Mazzello, Aiden Gillen, Tom Hollander and Mike Myers. The movie doesn’t feature an original score. Hollywood Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from the film performed by Queen. Opening in most theaters is the thriller Bad Samaritan directed by Dean Devlin and starring David Tennant, Robert Sheehan, Kerry Condon, Carlito Olivero, Jacqueline Byers, Tracey Heggins and Robert P. Nagle. The film’s original music is composed by Joseph LoDuca (The Evil Dead, Xena: Warrior Princess, Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, Ash vs Evil Dead). Michel Legrand Scoring Orson Welles’ ‘The Other Side of the Wind’
Variety is reporting that Michel Legrand is currently scoring Orson Welles’ final film The Other Side of the Wind. The satire starring John Huston, Bob Random, Peter Bogdanovich, Susan Strasberg & Oja Kodar was shot between 1970 and 1976 and never finished and released until restoration work began a few years ago. The movie follows the final days of a legendary director striving for a comeback. Frank Marshall (Raiders of Lost Ark, Jurassic World, The Sixth Sense) and Filip Jan Rymsza are producing the project.
