Martin Phipps (Woman in Gold, Victoria, Harry Brown, War & Peace) is the new composer of the Netflix original series The Crown. The composer is scoring the third season of the show, which stars Olivia Colman as Queen Elizabeth II, Marion Bailey as Queen Mother, Tobias Menzies as the queen’s husband, Prince Philip, Helena Bonham Carter as the queen’s sister, Princess Margaret, Ben Daniels as Antony Armstrong-Jones, Erin Doherty as Princess Anne, Josh O’Connor as Prince Charles and Emerald Fennell as Camilla Parker Bowles. The new season covers takes place right after the events from Season 2 and will cover the period of 1964 through the early 1970s.

Dubois Records has released a soundtrack album for the BBC and Netflix series Black Earth Rising. The album features selections of the show’s original music composed by Martin Phipps (Woman in Gold, Victoria, Harry Brown, War & Peace, Victoria) and additional music by Patrick Jonsson. Martin Phipps is composing the music for the upcoming Netflix and BBC series Black Earth Rising. The show is written and directed by Hugo Blick and stars Michaela Cole, John Goodman, Noma Dumezweni, Harriet Walter, Tamara Tunie, Lucian Msamati and Abena Ayivor. The drama tells the story of Kate Ashby, played by Coel, who was rescued as a young child during the Rwandan genocide and adopted by Eve Ashby, a world-class British prosecutor in international criminal law.
Martin Phipps to Score James Kent’s ‘The Aftermath’
Martin Phipps has been hired to score the upcoming period drama The Aftermath. The film is directed by James Kent (Testament of Youth, The Thirteenth Tale) and stars Keira Knightley, Alexander Skarsgard, Jason Clarke, Alexander Scheer, Kate Phillips, Martin Compston and Fionn O’Shea. The movie based on the novel by Rhidian Brook takes place in the aftermath of World War II and follows a British colonel and his wife who are assigned to live in Hamburg during the post-war reconstruction. Joe Shrapnel & Anna Waterhouse (Race, Frankie & Alice) wrote the screenplay. Ridley Scott (Gladiator, Alien, The Martian) is producing the project through his Scott Free production company, alongside Malte Grunert (A Most Wanted Man, Perfect Sense) and Jack Arbuthnott.
Martin Phipps Scoring Amazon’s ‘Oasis’
Martin Phipps has composed the music for Amazon Studios pilot Oasis. The show is created by Matt Charman (Bridge of Spies) based on the novel The Book of Strange New Things by Michel Faber and stars Richard Madden, Anil Kapoor, Michael Shaw, Mark Addy, Haley Joel Osment, Maureen Sebastian, Michael Shaffer and Zawe Ashton. The drama centers on a chaplain who is sent into space to help establish a colony on a distant planet. Charman is also executive producing the Amazon Studios and Left Bank production with Andy Harries (The Queen, The Crown, The Damned United) and Lila Rawlings (Dark River).

Victoria is created by novelist Daisy Goodwin and stars Jenna Coleman, Rufus Sewell, Alex Jennings, Paul Rhys, Tom Hughes and Peter Firth. The 8-part series follows the early life of Queen Victoria, from her accession to the throne at the age of 18 through to her courtship and marriage to Prince Albert.
Martin Phipps’ Score from ‘Black Mirror’ Episode ‘Hated in the Nation’ Released
Dubois Records has released the original score of the Black Mirror episode Hated in the Nation. The music is written by Emmy Award nominee Martin Phipps (Woman in Gold, War & Peace, The Honorable Woman, Brighton Rock, Harry Brown) and marks the composer’s second score for the show following the 2011 episode The National Anthem. Also included is the song Fall Into Me by Alev Lenz. The soundtrack is now available to download on Amazon and iTunes, where you can also listen to audio samples. The Hated in the Nation episode is directed by James Hawes and stars Kelly Macdonald, Faye Marsay and Benedict Wong. The episode is written by series creator Charlie Brooker and follows a London police detective and his tech-savvy sidekick as they investigate a string of mysterious deaths with a sinister link to social media.

Premiering tomorrow, October 24, is the new CBS comedy Man with a Plan created by Jackie & Jeff Filgo (That 70’s Show) and starring Matt LeBlanc, Liza Snyder, Kevin Nealon, Diana Maria Riva, Matt Cook and Jessica Chaffi. The show’s original music is composed by John Kimbrough (Winter Passing, Jump Tomorrow, A Decade Under the Influence). The series follows a contractor who must take on a more active parenting role when his wife goes back to work for the first time in 13 years. The comedy will air every Monday night on CBS. Premiering on Thursday, October 27, is the new CBS comedy The Great Indoors created by Mike Gibbons and starring Joel McHale, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Susannah Fielding, Christine Ko, Shaun Brown, Stephen Fry and Chris Williams. The series revolves around an adventure reporter who, after being sidelined by an injury, suddenly finds himself in his magazine’s digital/social media department, where he must manage a group of millennials. Several composers have been announced to score episodes of the upcoming third season of the anthology series Black Mirror. Among the composers hired to compose the music for the new episodes are Max Richter (The Leftovers, Testament of Youth, Disconnect), Martin Phipps (War & Peace, Woman in Gold, Brighton Rock), Bear McCreary (10 Cloverfield Lane, The Walking Dead, Battlestar Galactica, Outlander) and Geoff Barrow & Ben Salisbury (Ex Machina, Annihilation, Free Fire). As previously reported, Clint Mansell (Requiem for a Dream, Black Swan, Noah) has also scored a new episode of the show.
