Mark Mothersbaugh is composing the original score for the upcoming comedy drama Brad’s Status. The film is written and directed by Mike White (School of Rock, Nacho Libre, Year of the Dog) and stars Ben Stiller, Michael Sheen, Luke Wilson, Jenna Fischer and Austin Abrams. The movie follows a father who takes his son to tour colleges on the East Coast and meets up with an old friend who makes him feel inferior about his life’s choices. White is also producing the project with Brad Pitt & Dede Gardner (12 Years a Slave, Moonlight, The Big Short) for Plan B Entertainment, David Bernard (The D Train, Magic Magic), as well as Sidney Kimmel Entertainment.

Weekly Film Music Roundup (June 9, 2017)
Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the fantasy adventure The Mummy directed by Alex Kurtzman and starring Tom Cruise, Sofia Boutella, Annabelle Wallis, Jake Johnson, Courtney B. Vance and Russell Crowe. The film’s original music is composed by Brian Tyler (Fast & Furious, Iron Man 3, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Now You See Me, Thor: The Dark World). Back Lot Music has released a digital deluxe edition soundtrack today and will release a CD version next week. Also opening wide is the horror thriller It Comes at Night written and directed by Trey Edward Shults and starring Joel Edgerton, Christopher Abbott, Carmen Ejogo, Riley Keough and Kelvin Harrion Jr. Brian McOmber (Krisha, A Teacher, Ugly) has composed the film’s original music. Mark Mothersbaugh to Score ‘The LEGO Ninjago Movie’
Mark Mothersbaugh has signed on to score the upcoming animated feature The LEGO Ninjago Movie. The film marks the feature directorial debut of Charlie Bean (Tron: Uprising) and features the voices of Dave Franco, Justin Theroux, Fred Armisen, Abbi Jacobson, Olivia Munn, Kumail Nanjiani, Michael Peña, Zach Woods and Jackie Chan. Hilary Winston & Bob Logan & Paul Fisher wrote the screenplay based on a story by themselves and Kevin Hageman & Dan Hageman. Dan Lin (Sherlock Holmes, Gangster Squad), Phil Lord & Christopher Miller (21/22 Jump Street), Roy Lee (The Strangers, The Exorcist) and Maryann Garger (Astro Boy) are producing the project.
Mark Mothersbaugh Scoring Miguel Arteta’s ‘Beatriz at Dinner’
Mark Mothersbaugh has composed the score for the upcoming comedy Beatriz at Dinner. The film is directed by Miguel Arteta (The Good Girl, Youth in Revolt, Cedar Rapids) and stars Salma Hayek, John Lithgow, Chloe Sevigny, Connie Britton, Jay Duplass, Nina Arianda, Amy Landecker and John Early. The movie centers on the relationship between an immigrant from a poor town in Mexico who has drawn on her innate kindness to build a career as a health practitioner and a cutthroat, self-satisfied billionaire who meet at a dinner party. Mike White (School of Rock, Orange County, Nacho Libre) wrote the screenplay.

Premiering on Friday, November 11, is the Netflix original movie True Memoirs of an International Assassin directed by Jeff Wadlow and starring Kevin James, Zulay Henao, Andy Garcia, Maurice Compte, Kelen Coleman, Andrew Howard, Rob Riggle, Leonard Earl Howze, Yul Vazquez and Kim Coates. The film’s original music is composed by Ludwig Goransson (Creed, Community, Fruitvale Station, New Girl, Central Intelligence). The comedy follows a mild-mannered would-be author who gets mistaken for a killer-for-hire when his fictional novel about an international assassin is published as a true story. The movie will be available to stream on Friday on Netflix.
Also premiering on Friday is the sci-fi adventure comedy MECH-X4 created by Steve Marmel and starring Nathaniel Potvin, Raymond Cham, Kamran Lucas, Pearce Joza and Alyssa Jirrels. Tim Wynn (The Starving Games, Superfast!, Warhawk video game) is composing the show’s original music. The series follows a freshman at Bay City High who mysteriously awakens MECH-X4, a giant robot built to defend Bay City against impending doom. The comedy will premiere this Friday on the Disney Channel.
Mark Mothersbaugh to Score Marvel’s ‘Thor: Ragnarok’
Mark Mothersbaugh is set to compose the music for Marvel Studios’ upcoming sequel Thor: Ragnarok. The film is directed by Taika Waititi (Hunt for the Wilderness, What We Do in the Shadows) and stars Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, Anthony Hopkins, Cate Blanchett, Tessa Thompson, Jeff Goldblum, Karl Urban and Mark Ruffalo. Stephany Folsom has written the screenplay and Kevin Feige (The Avengers, Captain America, Iron Man, Guardians of the Galaxy) is producing the project. The previous two Thor movies were scored by Patrick Doyle and Brian Tyler.
Mark Mothersbaugh Scoring Amazon’s ‘The Interestings’
Mark Mothersbaugh has scored the pilot for the Amazon Studios series The Interestings. The show is created by Lyn Greene & Richard Levine (Masters of Sex, Nip/Tuck) and stars Lauren Ambrose, David Krumholtz, Jessica Pare, Matt Barr, Gabriel Ebert, Jessica Collins and Corey Cott. The drama is based on Meg Wolitzer’s bestselling novel and follows a group of artistic teenagers who meet at summer camp in 1974 and whose friendships are tested by tragedy, success, failure and secrets over the next few decades. Mike Newell (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Four Weddings and a Funeral) has directed the pilot episode.
‘Pee-wee’s Big Holiday’ Soundtrack Details
The details of the soundtrack album for the Netflix original movie Pee-wee’s Big Holiday have been announced. The album features the film’s original music composed by Mark Mothersbaugh (The LEGO Movie, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, Hotel Transylvania, 21/22 Jump Street). The soundtrack will be released digitally within the next few weeks and physically on May 6, 2016 by Varese Sarabande. Visit Amazon to pre-order the CD. Pee-wee’s Big Holiday is directed by John Lee and stars Paul Reubens, Tara Buck, Joe Manganiello, Jessica Pohl, Stephanie Beatriz and Alia Shawkat.
