Film Music Reporter has learned that Mark Mothersbaugh has been tapped to score the upcoming animation Hotel Transylvania. The movie centers around a group of monsters including Frankenstein, the Mummy, Dracula, and the Werewolf who are hiding out in a hotel on the outskirts of Transylvania now that modern technology has made them seemingly irrelevant. The film is produced by Sony Pictures Animation, the studio behind 2009’s hit film Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs which was scored by Mothersbaugh and also has Arthur Christmas (with music by Michael Giacchino) coming out later this year. Hotel Transylvania is helmed by Jill Culton who directed the 2006 animation Open Season which featured a score by Ramin Djawadi who was originally slated to score his new movie.

Mark Mothersbaugh to score ‘Born to be Wild’
Composer Mark Mothersbaugh has been hired to score the upcoming documentary Born to be Wild 3D. According to Variety, the movie centers on orphaned baby orangutans and elephants receiving a second chance at life in the wild, thanks to primatologist Dr. Birute Galdikas in Borneo and elephant authority Dame Daphne Sheldrick. The documentary directed by David Lickley will be narrated by Morgan Freeman, who previously narrated the hit documentary March of the Penguins. Mark Mothersbaugh (Cloudu with a Chance of Meatballs, The Royal Tenenbaums) recently shot a video for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, in which he discusses this years’ five Oscar nominated scores including Avatar (James Horner), The Hurt Locker (Marco Beltrami & Buck Sanders), Fantastic Mr. Fox (Alexandre Desplat), Sherlock Holmes (Hans Zimmer) and Up (Michael Giacchino).
