Weekly Film Music Roundup (April 17, 2015)

Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:

Opening in most theaters is the comedy sequel Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 directed by Andy Fickman and starring Kevin James, Raini Rodriguez, Neal McDonough and Shirley Knight. The film’s original music is composed by Rupert Gregson-Williams (Over the Hedge, Bee Movie, Click, Blended, Veep). No soundtrack album has been announced. Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 follows the security guard as he travels to Las Vegas to attend a Security Guard Expo with his teenage daughter and inadvertently discovers a heist. Also opening wide is Disneynature’s documentary Monkey Kingdom directed by Mark Linfield and Alastair Fothergill. Walt Disney Records has released the original song It’s Our World performed by Jacquie Lee from the film earlier this week. Click here to download the track. Harry Gregson-Williams (Shrek series, The Chronicles of Narnia, Kingdom of Heaven, Man on Fire, The Equalizer) has composed the film’s original score. Marco Beltrami’s ‘Red Eye’ Score to Be Released

Intrada Records has announced the world premiere soundtrack release for Paramount Pictures’ 2005 thriller Red Eye directed by Wes Craven and starring Rachel McAdams and Cillian Murphy. The album features the film’s original music written by Academy Award-nominated composer Marco Beltrami (3:10 to Yuma, The Hurt Locker, World War Z) who collaborated with the director on the Scream movies among other projects. Premiering tonight is the Lifetime original movie Seeds of Yesterday directed by Shawn Ku (Beautiful Boy) and starring Rachael Carpani, James Maslow, Jason Lewis, Sammi Hanratty, Anthony Konechny, Leah Gibson and Nikohl Boosheri. The film’s original movie is composed by Douglas Pipes (Monster House, Trick ‘r’ Treat). Seeds of Yesterday is the final installment in the Dollananger series based on V.C. Andrews’ best- selling book series following Flowers in the Attic and Petals of the Wind, which were both scored by Mario Grigorov, and If There Be Thorns, which was scored by Pipes and premiered on Lifetime last Sunday. Premiering tomorrow, April 13, is the second season of AMC’s Turn: Washington’s Spies created by Craig Silverstein and starring Jamie Bell, Seth Numrich, Daniel Henshall, Heather Lind, Meegan Warner, Kevin R. McNally, Burn Gorman, Angus Macfadyen, JJ Feild, Samuel Roukin and Ian Kahn. Marco Beltrami (Scream, World War Z, The Wolverine, The Hurt Locker) who previously scored last year’s first season returns and is now sharing co-composer credit with Brandon Roberts who wrote additional music for the first season. Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:

Expected to top the weekend box office is the second part in the Divergent series, Insurgent directed by Robert Schwentke and starring Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Octavia Spencer, Jai Courtney, Ray Stevenson, Zoë Kravitz, Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, Maggie Q, Naomi Watts and Kate Winslet. Joseph Trapanese (Oblivion, Earth to Echo) has composed the film’s original score. Interscope Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from the film by such artists as M83 feat. Haim, Imagine Dragons, Royal Blood, Woodkid feat. Lykke Li, Anna Calvi, SOHN and Zella Day, as well as a score suite. Click here for the full details. ‘The Gunman’ Soundtrack Details

Silva Screen Records will release a soundtrack album for the thriller The Gunman. The album features the film’s original music composed by Marco Beltrami (Scream, World War Z, 3:10 to Yuma, The Wolverine, The Hurt Locker). The soundtrack will be released digitally on March 24, 2015 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon, where you can also listen to audio clips. A physical version is set to come out in April. The Gunman is directed by Pierre Morrel (Taken), produced by Joel Silver and stars Sean Penn, Javier Bardem, Idris Elba, Ray Winstone, Mark Rylance and Jasmine Trinca. The movie is based on the novel The Prone Gunman by Jean-Patrick Manchette and follows a former special forces officer who is suffering from PTSD and must make a run across Europe to clear his name.

Opening in most theaters is the animated feature The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water directed by Paul Tibbitt and featuring the voices of Antonio Banderas, Tom Kenny, Clancy Brown, Rodger Bumpass, Bill Fagerbakke, Carolyn Lawrence and Douglas Lawrence. Columbia Records has released a soundtrack featuring five songs from the film. Visit Amazon to download the release. The movie’s original score is composed by John Debney (The Passion of the Christ, Iron Man 2, Elf, Bruce Almighty). No word yet on a release of the composer’s music. Also opening wide is the sci-fi adventure Jupiter Ascending written and directed by Andy & Lana Wachowski and starring Channing Tatum, Mila Kunis, Sean Bean, Eddie Redmayne and Douglas Booth. Michael Giacchino (Lost, Star Trek, Up, Ratatouille, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) has composed the film’s original score. Philip Glass to Co-Score ‘The Fantastic Four’

Director Josh Trank revealed in a recent interview with Collider that Philip Glass is co-scoring the upcoming reboot of The Fantastic Four. The composer will be collaborating with Marco Beltrami who was previously announced to score the film starring Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan, Jamie Bell, Toby Kebbell, Reg E. Cathey and Tim Blake Nelson. The movie centers on four young outsiders who teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe, which alters their physical form in shocking ways and who must learn to harness their daunting new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy.

Marco Beltrami has signed on to score the upcoming reboot of The Fantastic Four. The film is directed by Josh Trank (Chronicle) and stars Miles Teller as Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, Kate Mara as Susan Storm/Invisible Woman, Michael B. Jordan as Johnny Storm/Human Torch and Jamie Bell as Ben Grimm/The Thing. Toby Kebbell will be portraying Victor Domashev/Doom. Reg E. Cathey and Tim Blake Nelson are also co-starring. The movie based on the Marvel Comics series centers on four young outsiders who teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe, which alters their physical form in shocking ways and who must learn to harness their daunting new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy.

The only movie opening nationwide this weekend is the horror sequel The Woman in Black 2: Angel of Death directed by Tom Harper and starring Jeremy Irvine, Helen McCrory, Phoebe Cox and Oaklee Pendergast. The film’s original music is composed by Marco Beltrami (Scream, World War Z, 3:10 to Yuma) who previously scored the first part in the series, as well as Marcus Trumpp and Brandon Roberts. Varese Sarabande has released a soundtrack album featuring the composers’ score earlier this week and a CD version is set to be released next week. Opening in New York and Los Angeles this week before expanding nationwide later this month is the crime drama A Most Violent Year written and directed by J.C. Chandor and starring Oscar Isaac, Jessica Chastain, Alessandro Nivola, David Oyelowo and Albert Brooks. Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zero’s Alex Ebert who previously scored the director’s All is Lost has composed the film’s original music. ‘1864’ Soundtrack Details

MovieScore Media will release a soundtrack album for the Danish TV series 1864. The album features selections from the show’s original music composed by Marco Beltrami (Scream, Snowpiercer, 3:10 to Yuma, World War Z). The soundtrack will be released on December 16, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Check out audio clips below. 1864 is created by Ole Bornedal (Nightwatch, I Am Dina) and stars Pilou Asbæk, Jakob Oftebro, Marie Tourell Søderberg, Sidse Babett Knudsen and Søren Malling. The 8-part drama centers on the conflict between Denmark and Prussia, which resulted in more than 5,000 Danish deaths and the loss of one-third of Danish territory.
