Three new movies are opening nationwide this week:
Already in theaters since Thursday is the movie adaptation of Ready Player One directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Tye Sheridan, Ben Mendelsohn, T.J. Miller, Simon Pegg, Mark Rylance and Olivia Cooke. The film’s original music is composed by Alan Silvestri (Back to the Future, Forrest Gump, The Avengers). WaterTower Music has released a soundtrack featuring the composer’s score today (click here for the album details). Also opening nationwide is the thriller Acrimony written and directed by Tyler Perry and starring Taraji P. Henson, Lyriq Bent, Ajiona Alexus and Antonio Madison. Christopher Lennertz (Ride Along, Horrible Bosses, Baywatch, Lost in Space, Supernatural) has composed the film’s original music. No word yet on a release of the score. Warner Bros. Opening in most theaters is the action adventure Tomb Raider directed by Roar Uthaug and starring Alicia Vikander, Dominic West, Walton Goggins and Daniel Wu. The film’s original music is composed by Tom Holkenborg (aka Junkie XL) (Mad Max: Fury Road, Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Divergent, Black Mass). Also opening wide is the coming-of-age drama Love, Simon directed by Greg Berlanti and starring Nick Robinson, Katherine Langford, Alexandra Shipp, Jorge Lendeborg Jr., Miles Heizer, Keiynan Lonsdale, Logan Miller, Jennifer Garner, Josh Duhamel and Tony Hale. Expected to top the weekend box office is the drama Fifty Shades Freed directed by James Foley and starring Dakota Johnson, Jamie Dornan, Arielle Kebbel, Kim Basinger, Brant Daugherty and Luke Grimes. Republic Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from the movie by Liam Hayes & Rita Ora, Hailee Steinfeld x BloodPop, Miike Snow & more. 
Also opening wide is the family comedy Peter Rabbit created by Will Gluck and starring James Corden, Rose Byrne, Domhnall Gleeson, Sam Neill, Daisy Ridley, Elizabeth Debicki and Margot Robbie. Dominic Lewis (The Man in the High Castle, Money Monster, Free Birds, DuckTales) has composed the film’s original score. Columbia Records has released a single featuring a score suite, as well as the song I Promise You written by Ezra Koenig & Gluck and performed by Corden. Check out 
Premiering in the U.S. on Tuesday, January 30, is the German television series Babylon Berlin co-created and -directed by Tom Tykwer and starring Volker Bruch, Liv Lisa Fries, Matthias Brandt, Hannah Herzsprung, Karl Markovics, Lars Eidinger and Sebastian Urzen. Tykwer also co-scored the show with Johnny Klimek (Run Lola Run, The International, Cloud Atlas, Sense8). BMG has released a soundtrack album featuring the score, as well as tracks by The Bryan Ferry Orchestra, Moka Efti Orchestra & more last fall when the drama premiered overseas. 
Premiering on Wednesday, January 31, is the YouTube Red original series Step Up: High Water created by Holly Sorensen and starring Ne-Yo, Naya Rivera, Lauryn McClain, Petrice Jones, Faizon Love and Marcus Mitchell. Lionsgate Records will release a soundtrack album featuring the original songs from the show by Jason “Poo Bear” Boyd and “Jingle” Jared Gutstadt on the same day. Check out 
Jeff Cardoni has been hired to score the upcoming NBC comedy A.P. Bio. The show is created by Mike O’Brien (Saturday Night Live) and stars Glenn Howerton, Patton Oswalt, Lyric Lewis, Mary Sohn, Aparna Brielle, Jacob McCarthy and Nick Peine. The series follows a philosophy scholar who loses out on his dream job and goes to work as a high school Advanced Placement Biology teacher and uses his students to get back at the people in his life who have wronged him. O.Brien is also executive producing the Universal Television production with Lorne Michaels (30 Rock, Wayne’s World), Seth Meyers, Andrew Singer and Michael Shoemaker. 
Jeff Cardoni has been hired to score the upcoming indie comedy Furlough. The film is directed by Laurie Collyer (Sherrybaby, Sunlight Jr.) and stars Melissa Leo and La La Anthony. Anna Paquin, Tessa Thompson and Whoopi Goldberg are also rumored to appear in the movie, which centers around an inmate who is granted one weekend out of prison to see her dying mother and her relationship with a rookie correction officer. Barry Strugatz (She-Devil, Married to the Mob) wrote the screenplay. 
Expected to top the weekend box office is the animated feature Cars 3 directed by Brian Fee and featuring the voices of Owen Wilson, Cristela Alonzo, Armie Hammer, Larry the Cable Guy, Bonnie Hunt, Cheech Marin, Jenifer Lewis, John Ratzenberger, Lloyd Sherr, Michael Wallis, Paul Dooley, Kerry Washington and Nathan Fillion. The film’s original score is composed by Randy Newman (Toy Story, Monsters, Inc., A Bug’s Life) and has been released by Walt Disney Records. 
Also opening wide is the biographical drama All Eyez on Me directed by Benny Boom and starring Demetrius Shipp Jr, Kat Graham, Lauren Cohan, Hill Harper, Jamal Woolard and Danai Gurira. John Paesano (Daredevil, The Maze Runner, The Defenders, My All American, When the Game Stands Tall) ha composed the film’s original score. No soundtrack album has been announced. All Eyez on Me tells the story of Tupac Shakur and follows the rapper, actor, poet and activist from his early days in New York City until his untimely death at the age of 25. Jeff Cardoni is reteaming with director Michael Winnick on the upcoming horror thriller Malicious. The film starring Josh Stewart, Delroy Lindo, Bojana Novakovic, Melissa Bolona and Yvette Yates follows a young college professor and his pregnant wife who find and open an antique box in their new home, unwittingly releasing a malevolent entity with murderous intentions. Winnick also wrote the screenplay. Patrick Rizzotti and Brett Forbes (The Collector, Pride) are producing the project for Fortress Features. 
Lakeshore Records will release a soundtrack album for the action comedy Once Upon a Time in Venice. The album features the film’s original music composed by Jeff Cardoni (CSI: Miami, Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, Silicon Valley, Speechless, Just Friends). Also included are the songs from the movie by Daniel Stimac, Damon Criswell, Julian Angel, Arlan Feiles and Sophia Avocado. The soundtrack will be released digitally on June 9, 2017 and is now available for pre-order on
