Premiering tonight is the Showtime original mini-series Guerrilla created John Ridley and starring Idris Elba, Frieda Pinto, Babou Ceesay, Rory Kinnear, Nathaniel Martello-White, Daniel Mays, Denise Gough, Brandon Scott, Zawe Ashton and Nicholas Pinnock. The 6-parter’s original music is composed by Max Richter (The Leftovers, Waltz with Bashir, Taboo, Miss Sloane, Disconnect). Also premiering tonight is The White Queen sequel The White Princess based on the novel by Philippa Gregory and starring Jodie Comer, Jacob Collins-Levy, Michelle Fairley, Essie Davis, Vincent Regan, Rebecca Benson, Rhys Connah, Suki Waterhouse, Patrick Gibson and Joanne Whalley. John Lunn (Downton Abbey, The Last Kingdom) who previously scored The White Queen has composed the music for the 8-parter. The drama air in the U.S. Sunday nights on Starz. Amazon’s ‘The New V.I.P.’s’ to Feature Music by Jeff Cardoni

Jeff Cardoni has composed the music for the Amazon Studios pilot The New V.I.P.’s. The show is created by Steve Dildarian (The Life & Times of Tim) and features the voices of Matt Braunger, Ben Schwartz, Missi Pyle and Jonathan Adams. The animated comedy centers on a group of low-level employees who seize control of a major corporation after accidently murdering their boss. Peter Principato (Central Intelligence, Keanu, Married) is producing the project with Titmouse’s Ben Kalina and Dave Newberg.

Jeff Cardoni to Score Scott Speer’s ‘Status Update’

Jeff Cardoni has been tapped to score the upcoming comedy Status Update. The film is directed by Scott Speer (Step Up Revolution) and stars Ross Lynch, Olivia Holt, Courtney Eaton, Rob Riggle, Famke Janssen, John Michael Higgins, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Josh Ostrovsky, Alexandra Siegel, Diana Bang, Martin Donovan, Harvey Guillen, Gregg Sulkin and Brec Bassinger. The movie centers on a teenager who, after being uprooted by his parents’ separation and unable to fit into his new hometown, stumbles upon a magical app that causes his social media updates to come true. Jason Filardi (Bringing Down the House, 17 Again) wrote the screenplay.

Premiering on Wednesday, February 1, is the BET original mini-series Madiba directed by Kevin Hooks and starring Laurence Fishburne, Orlando Jones, David Harewood, Michael Nyqvist and Terry Pheto. The show’s original music is composed by Todor Kobakov (The Samaritan, Born to Be Blue, Closet Monster, Bitten). Premiering on Thursday, February 2, is the new CBS drama Training Day developed by Will Beall based on Antoine Fuqua’s 2001 hit movie and starring Drew Van Acker, Bill Paxton, Katrina Law, Lex Scott Davis, Julie Benz, Justin Cornwell and Marianne Jean-Baptiste. In addition to the nationwide expansions of Peter Berg’s Patriots Day, Ben Affleck’s Live by Night and Martin Scorsese’s Silence, three new movies are opening wide:

Opening in most theaters is the family movie Monster Trucks directed by Chris Wedge and starring Lucas Till, Jane Levy, Holt McCallany, Barry Pepper, Tucker Albrizzi, Danny Glover, Amy Ryan, Rob Lowe, Frank Whaley and Thomas Lennon. The film’s original music is composed by David Sardy (21, Zombieland, Premium Rush, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance). The movie follows a a high school senior who builds a Monster Truck from bits and pieces of scrapped cars. No soundtrack album has been announced. Also opening wide is the supernatural thriller The Bye Bye Man directed by Stacy Title and starring Carrie-Anne Moss, Faye Dunaway, Douglas Smith, Cressida Bonas, Lucien Laviscount and Douglas Jones. The Newton Brothers (Oculus, Ouija: Origin of Evil, Life of Crime) have composed the film’s original music. Jeff Cardoni to Score Netflix’s ‘Girlboss’

Jeff Cardoni is scoring the upcoming Netflix original series Girlboss. The show is created by Kay Cannon (Pitch Perfect) and stars Britt Robertson, Johnny Simmons, Ellie Reed, Dean Norris and Alphonso McAuley. The comedy is inspired by Sophia Amoruso’s autobiography of the same title and follows a rebellious, broke anarchist who stumbles upon her passion of selling vintage clothes online and becomes an unlikely businesswoman. Cannon is also execute producing the project with Amoruso, Charlize Theron & Laverne McKinnon and Christian Ditter (How to Be Single) who is also directing several episodes.

‘Bad Kids of Crestview Academy’ Soundtrack Released

A soundtrack album has been released for the thriller Bad Kids of Crestview Academy. The album features the film’s original music composed by Jeff Cardoni (Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, Silicon Valley, CSI: Miami, Just Friends, Speechless). The soundtrack is now available to download on Amazon, where you can also listen to audio samples. Bad Kids of Crestview Academy is directed by Ben Browder and stars Drake Bell, Sean Astin, Gina Gershon, Sammi Hanratty, as well as Browder himself. The movie is based on the best-selling graphic novel series and follows a a group of spoiled “bad kids” who have been placed in Saturday detention at the prestigious Crestview Academy and find themselves trapped in school with no way out, wondering who (or what) set them up.

The movie follows an L.A.-based private investigator whose professional and personal worlds collide after his loving pet Buddy is stolen by a notorious gang. The Cullen brothers are also producing the project with Voltage Pictures’ Nicolas Chartier (The Hurt Locker, Killer Joe), Zev Foreman (Good Kill, Colossal) and Laura Ford.

Expected to top the weekend box office is the dramatic thriller The Girl on the Train directed by Tate Taylor and starring Emily Blunt, Rebecca Ferguson, Haley Bennett, Justin Theroux, Luke Evans, Allison Janney, Edgar Ramirez, Lisa Kudrow and Laura Prepon. The film’s original music is composed by Danny Elfman (Batman, Spider-Man, Alice in Wonderland, Fifty Shades of Grey). Sony Classical has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. Also opening nationwide is the historical drama The Birth of a Nation directed by Nate Parker who also stars in the movie alongside Armie Hammer, Mark Boone Jr., Colman Domingo, Aunjanue Ellis, Dwight Henry, Gabrielle Union, Penelope Ann Miller and Jackie Earle Haley. Jeff Beal, John Debney, Jeff Russo & More to Create New Scores for Silent Films Live Concert

On November 3, 2016, a number of film, television and visual media composers will reimagine and create new scores for classic silent films at the concert, Silent Films Live. The event presented by Education Through Music–Los Angeles member Angel Velez will take place at 7pm at the Malibu Screening Room and will be preceded by with a pre-concert interview and reception at 6pm featuring a discussion with the composers, moderated by Varèse Sarabande’s Robert Townson.
