Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:

Opening in most theaters this weekend is the comic book movie Deadpool directed by Tim Miller and starring Ryan Reynolds, Morena Baccarin, Gina Carano, Ed Skrein and Brianna Hildebrand. The film’s original music is composed by Tom Holkenborg aka Junkie XL (Mad Max: Fury Road, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice). Milan Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as songs by WHAM!, Salt-N-Pepa, DMX & more. Check out our previous article for the full album details. Also opening wide is the comedy sequel Zoolander 2 directed by Ben Stiller and starring himself, Penelope Cruz, Will Ferrell, Owen Wilson, Kristen Wiig and Fred Armisen. Theodore Shapiro (The Devil Wears Prada, Tropic Thunder, Marley & Me, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, Trumbo). Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score digitally today. A CD version will be released next month. ‘Strangely in Love’ Soundtrack Details

T-65b Records will release a soundtrack album for Amin Matalqa’s romantic comedy Strangely in Love. The album features the film’s original music composed by Grammy Award nominee Austin Wintory (Journey video game, Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate, Grace, A Little Help) who previously collaborated with the director on Captain Abu Raed and recently scored the filmmaker’s upcoming The Rendezvous. Also included is the original song A Simple Love performed by The Controversy. The soundtrack will be released digitally on February 8, 2016 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon, where you can also check out audio samples. Strangely in Love is co-written and directed by Matalqa and stars Michelle Lang, Jemuel Morris, Sean Carrigan and Amanda Plummer.

Dan Romer, Christophe Beck & Tom Holkenborg Win Hollywood Music in Media Awards

Last night, the 6th Hollywood Music in Media Awards (HMAA) were handed out at the Fonda Theatre in Hollywood, CA. Dan Romer was awarded for his score for Cary Fukunaga’s critically acclaimed Netflix original movie Beasts of No Nation in the Best Original Score – Feature Film category. Tom Holkenborg was honored for his music for George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road in the Original Score – Sci-Fi/Fantasy Film and thanked fellow nominees Christophe Beck and Harry Gregson-Williams for giving him his first jobs in the industry during his acceptance speech. Christophe Beck received his second HMMA for his work for The Peanuts Movie in the Best Score – Animated Film category. In addition, Miriam Cutler won the prize for her music for The Hunting Ground in the Original Score – Documentary category.

Four new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:

Opening in most theaters is the horror comedy Goosebumps directed by Rob Letterman and starring Jack Black, Dylan Minnette, Odeya Rush, Amy Ryan, Jillian Bell, Ryan Lee and Ken Marino. The film’s original music is composed by Danny Elfman (Spider-Man, Batman, Alice in Wonderland, Avengers: Age of Ultron). Sony Classical and Madison Gate Records have released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music. Also opening wide is the spy thriller Bridge of Spies directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Tom Hanks, Mark Rylance, Scott Shepherd, Amy Ryan, Sebastian Koch and Alan Alda. Thomas Newman (American Beauty, The Shawshank Redemption, Finding Nemo, Skyfall) has composed the film’s original music. Hollywood Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the Academy Award-nominated composer today. ‘Tales of Halloween’ Soundtrack Announced

Aleph Records will release a soundtrack album for the horror anthology film Tales of Halloween. The album features the movie’s original score written by composers including Joseph Bishara (The Conjuring, Insidious), Christian Henson (The Devil’s Double), Austin Wintory (Journey), Christoper Drake (Tusk), Bobby Johnston (Mother’s Day), Michael Sean Colin (Killjoy Goes to Hell), Edwin Wendler (Unnatural), Jimmy Psycho (The Jimmy Psycho Experiment) and Sean Spillane (Jug Face). Also included is the film’s main titles theme composed by Lalo Schifrin (Mission: Impossible, The Amityville Horror). The soundtrack will be released exclusively on iTunes on October 23, 2015. Tales of Halloween weaves together ten chilling tales from horror directors including Neil Marshall, Darren Lynn Bousman, Lucky McKee, Mike Mendez and Ryan Schifrin.

Austin Wintory to Score Amin Matalqa’s ‘The Rendezvous’

Austin Wintory is reuniting with director Amin Matalqa on the upcoming action adventure The Rendezvous. The film stars Stana Katic, Raza Jaffrey, Alfonso Bassave, Ron Guttman, Glenn Fleshler, Darby Stanchfield, and Nadim Sawalha. The movie follows an unlikely pair who find themselves swept up in a deadly race to find a sacred Dead Sea Scroll hidden in the ancient city of Petra. Terrel Seltzer (One Fine Day, How I Got Into College) has written the screenplay. Dan Halsted (Garden State, Any Given Sunday, The Virgin Suicides) is producing the project with Tricia Gibbs.

Elliot Goldenthal, Deborah Lurie, Johann Johannsson & Sean Callery Honored at ASCAP Film & TV Music Awards

Last night, the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) held its annual Film & Television Music Awards at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. Elliot Goldenthal was honored with the ASCAP Founders Award, which is given to songwriters and composers who have made pioneering contributions to music by inspiring and influencing their fellow music creators. The Academy Award-winning composer was presented the award by director Michael Mann who collaborated with Goldenthal on Heat and Public Enemies. Goldenthal’s partner Julie Taymor who worked with him on Frida, Titus, Across the Universe and various stage productions, as well as Neil Jordan who collaborated with the composer on films including Interview with the Vampire and Michael Collins congratulated the composer via a video message.

Opening nationwide today is the action thriller sequel Taken 3 directed by Olivier Megaton, produced by Luc Besson and starring Liam Neeson, Forest Whitaker, Famke Janssen, Maggie Grace, Dogray Scott, Sam Spruell and Leland Orser. The film’s original music is composed by Nathaniel Mechaly (Colombiana, Taxi Brooklyn) who previously scored the first two movies in the series. EuropaCorp has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as songs by Glass Animals, Olafur Arnalds & Arnor Dan and The XX earlier this week. Opening in select cities this week is the sci-fi thriller Predestination written and directed by Peter & Michael Spierig and starring Ethan Hawke, Sarah Snook and Noah Taylor. Peter Spierig has also written the film’s original music. No word on a soundtrack album. Predestination follows a Temporal Agent who is sent on an intricate series of time-travel journeys designed to prevent future killers from committing their crimes and must stop the one criminal that has eluded him throughout time and prevent a devastating attack. The thriller premiered at last year’s SXSW Film Festival and is being released by Vertical Entertainment.

Austin Wintory to Conduct Film/TV/Video Game Music Concert ‘Mythos’

On October 6, 2014, Grammy Award-nominated composer Austin Wintory (Journey, Captain Abu Raed, Grace) will conduct the all-star orchestra and choir of The Third Estate for the world premiere of Mythos, a showcase of music from Modern Concert Works, Video Games, TV & Film. Wintory has curated the concert from the music of many of today’s leading composers into a seamless, dramatic orchestral work. All of the music has been composed in the last five years, and will be performed without pause. Printed concert programs will be withheld until the end of the concert. Mythos is produced by renowned classical cellist and recording artist Peter Sachon. The event will take place on October 6, 2014 at the Kaufman Concert Hall during the first annual New York Super Week festival, four days before New York Comic Con 2014.

Austin Wintory to Score ‘Dark Summer’

Austin Wintory is currently scoring the upcoming supernatural horror thriller Dark Summer. The film is directed by Paul Solet and stars Peter Stormare, Stella Maeve, Grace Phipps, Keir Gilchrist and Maestro Harrel. The movie follows a 17-year-old boy who is placed under house arrest for the summer while his mother is away on business. Mike Le (K-Town web series) has written the script. Ross M. Dinerstein (The Pact, The Divide, Powder Blue) is producing the project for Preferred Film & TV and Jamie Carmichael (Black Book, Splinter) is executive producing for Content Film. The composer has previously collaborated with Solet on the horror thriller Grace, which premiered at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival.
