Two new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:

Opening in most theaters is the action thriller White House Down directed by Roland Emmerich and starring Channing Tatum, Jamie Foxx, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Jason Clarke, James Woods, Richard Jenkins, Joey King and Rachelle Lefevre. The film’s music is composed by Thomas Wander and Harald Kloser (2012, 10’000 B.C., The Day After Tomorrow). A soundtrack album featuring the composers’ music was released digitally today and will be coming out on CD on July 23. Also opening wide is the buddy cop comedy The Heat directed by Paul Feig and starring Sandra Bullock, Melissa McCarthy, Demian Bichir, Marlon Wayans and Michael Rapaport. Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album earlier this week featuring the songs from the film by artists including LCD Soundsytem, Santigold, Kimbra, The Isley Brothers, Angel Haze, Parliament, Azealia Banks, Ted Nugent, Boston and Kreayshawn. ‘I’m So Excited’ Soundtrack Details

Quartet Records will release the soundtrack album for Pedro Almadovar’s upcoming comedy I’m So Excited (Los amantes pasajeros). The album features the film’s original score composed by the director’s regular musical collaborator Alberto Iglesias (The Constant Gardener, The Kite Runner). Also included is the classic song I’m So Excited by the Pointer Sisters, as well as tracks by Los Destellos, Luiz Bonfá, Django Django and Metronomy. The soundtrack will be released digitally on March 5, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Check out audio clips after the jump. I’m So Excited written and directed by Almodovar stars Javier Cámara, Cecilia Roth, Lola Dueñas, Raul Arévalo, Carlos Areces, Antonio de la Torre, Hugo Silva, Willy Toledo, Miguel Ángel Silvestre, Blanca Suárez, José Luis Torrijo, José María Yazpik, Laya Martí with special collaborations from Penélope Cruz, Antonio Banderas and Paz Vega.

Alberto Iglesias Wins European Film Award for ‘Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy’

Alberto Iglesias has won the European Film Award for his score for Tomas Alfredson’s thriller Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy starring Gary Oldman, Colin Firth, Tom Hardy and Mark Strong in the European Composer category at tonight’s EFA Night 2012 in Malta. The other composers nominated in the music category were Gabriel Yared & Cyrille Aufort for A Royal Pain, George Fenton for Ken Loach’s The Angel’s Share and Francois Couturier for Shun Li and the Poet (Io Sono Li). Iglesias also received an Academy Award nomination for his score earlier this year. The composer’s soundtrack for Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy is available on Silva Screen America. Alberto Iglesias Named Film Composer of the Year 2012 at World Soundtrack Awards

Alberto Iglesias was chosen as Film Composer of the Year 2012 at the World Soundtrack Awards 2012, tonight’s closing event of the 39th Ghent Film Festival. Iglesias also received an award for his score for Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy in the Best Original Film Score of the Year 2012 category. The composer’s other scores of the past year include The Monk (Le Moine) and Pedro Almadovar’s The Skin I Live In (La Piel Que Habito). In the Discovery of the Year category, Brian Byrne was awarded for his score for Rodrigo Garcia’s Albert Nobbs starring Glenn Close. The composer also received an award for the original song Lay Your Head Down from Albert Nobbs, which features lyrics by Glenn Close and is performed by Sinead O’Connor. The Public Choice Award went to Abel Korzeniowski for his music for Madonna’s W.E..

Five Film Composers Invited to Join the Academy

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has invited 176 artists and executives who have distinguished themselves by their contributions to theatrical motion pictures to join the organization. Among the invited artists this year are five film composers, including former Oscar nominee Albert Iglesias who has received three Academy Award nominations for The Constant Gardener, The Kite Runner and last year’s Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, previous Oscar recipient Ryuichi Sakamoto who won the award for co-scoring 1988’s The Last Emperor with David Byrne and Cong Su, as well as the most recent Academy Award winner in the Best Original Score category Ludovic Bource who received the award for his music for The Artist at this year’s ceremony.

Alberto Iglesias to Score ‘Out of the Furnace’

According to The Playlist, Alberto Iglesias will be scoring the crime drama Out of the Furnace. The film is written and directed by Scott Cooper (Crazy Heart) and stars Christian Bale and Casey Affleck as two brothers in an economically depressed part of the American Rust Belt. When one brother has to go to prison, the other is lured into a ruthless gang. Woody Harrelson, Zoe Saldana, Forest Whitaker, Willem Dafoe and Sam Shepard are co-starring in the movie. Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Killoran (Red Riding Hood, Orphan) are producing through Appian Way and Ridley Scott, Tony Scott and Michael Costigan (Cyrus, Being Flynn) are producing for Scott Free Productions.

Two new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:

Expected to top the weekend box office is the ensemble romantic comedy New Year’s Eve directed by Garry Marshall and starring Ashton Kutcher, Jessica Biel, Sarah Jessica Parker, Halle Berry, Robert De Niro, Sofia Vergara, Jon Bon Jovi, Hilary Swank, Lea Michele, Zac Efron, Chris ‘Ludacris’ Bridges, Josh Duhamel, Seth Meyers, Hector Elizondo, Abigail Breslin, Michelle Pfeiffer and Katherine Heigl. A soundtrack album featuring the songs from the film has been released by WaterTower Music on Tuesday. For the full track list and audio clips, visit our previous article. John Debney has written movie’s score, but no score album has been released so far. Check out two videos from the recording of the score and of a song written by Debney (performed by Alison Sudal and with lyrics by Glen Ballard) on YouTube.

Also opening wide is the comedy The Sitter directed by David Gordon Green and starring Jonah Hill, Sam Rockwell, Ari Grayner, Erin Daniels, Jessica Hecht and Method Man. The film’s score is written by David Wingo and Jeff McIlwain. A soundtrack album featuring one track from the score, as well as the songs from the movie by artists including The Sugarhill Gang, Slick Rick, Cluts, Pharcyde, The Jungle Brothers and Raphael Saadiq has been released on Sony Music earlier this week. Three new movies are opening wide this weekend:

Opening in most theaters is the remake of Footloose directed by Craig Brewer and stars Kenny Wormaid, Julianne Hough, Dennis Quaid and Andie MacDowell. Atlantic Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the movie’s songs by artists including Blake Shelton, Zac Brown, The Smashing Pumpkins, Victoria Justice & Hunter Hayes and Big & Rich. Also opening wide is the horror prequel The Thing directed by Matthijs van Heijingen Jr. and starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Eric Christian Olsen and Joel Edgerton. Marco Beltrami has written the music for the film. A soundtrack album featuring Beltrami’s score has been released by Varese Sarabande earlier this week. Alberto Iglesias to Receive Hollywood Film Composer Award

Alberto Iglesias is the recipient of the Hollywood Film Composer Award at this year’s Hollywood Film Festival for his scores for the John Le Carre film adaptation of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy starring Gary Oldman, Colin Firth and Tom Hardy and Pedro Almadovar’s The Skin I Live In starring Antonio Banderas. Iglesias will collect his statuette at the Hollywood Awards Gala Ceremony, which will take place at the Beverly Hilton on Oct. 24. Iglesias is having one of his busiest years of his film scoring career to date with three movies being released in 2011 (The Monk being the third one).

Silva Screen Records has announced the details of the soundtrack release for the thriller Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. The album includes the original score by Alberto Iglesias (The Kite Runner, The Constant Gardener). The soundtrack will be released digitally in the UK on August 29, 2011 and on CD on September 19. The complete album can currently be streamed for free on Silva Screen’s official soundtrack website. (UPDATE November 2011): Silva Screen America is releasing the album in the US on November 21, 2011. Visit Amazon to order the soundtrack and check out audio clips from all tracks on the album below.
