Walt Disney Records will release a second soundtrack album for the the live-action adaptation of Disney’s animated classic The Little Mermaid. The Deluxe Edition includes the content of the original album featuring the songs from the movie composed by Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Tangled, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Enchanted), lyrics by Howard Ashman and new lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hamilton, In the Heights, Encanto), as well as Menken’s full original score. The soundtrack will be released digitally tomorrow, May 26 and will be available to stream/download on Amazon and any other major digital music services. Bill Lee has passed away today at age 94 at his home in Brooklyn. The composer and jazz musician was known for scoring his son Spike Lee’s early films, including Do the Right Thing, She’s Gotta Have It, School Daze and Mo’ Better Blues. He also composed the music for the director’s 1983 short Joe’s Bed-Stuy Barbershop: We Cut Heads. Lee was also an established jazz bassist and has performed with artists such as Bob Dylan, John Lee Hooker, Harry Belafonte, Aretha Franklin, Chris Anderson, Odetta, Cat Stevens & others.
