Canadian singer/songwriter and music producer Katie Austra Stelmanis is set to make her narrative feature scoring debut on the upcoming drama Maya & Samar. The film is directed by Anita Doron (screenwriter of The Breadwinner) and stars Nicolette Pearse and Amanda Babaei Vieira. The movie follows a rising journalist for a hip indie website who covers sex and music with free-flowing thought and liberal practice and a queer Afghan who escaped from the Taliban and now lives without papers and working as a dancer in a Athens club for cash whose worlds collide in a torrid affair that exposes their conflicting cultures. Lakeshore Records will release a soundtrack album for the coming-of-age drama series Penelope. The album features selections of the show’s original music composed by Danny Bensi & Saunder Jurriaans (Ozark, The Outsider, Speak No Evil, Enemy, The Gift, The Staircase, Boy Erased, Fear the Walking Dead, A Murder at the End of the World) with Julia Piker. The soundtrack will be released digitally tomorrow, September 24 and will be available to stream/download on Amazon and any other major digital music services. Music Box Records has announced the world premiere release of the score for the 1984 French thriller La Garce co-written and directed by Christine Pascal and starring Isabelle Huppert, Richard Berry, Vittorio Mezzogiorno and Jean Benguigui. The album features the film’s original music composed by Academy Award nominee Philippe Sarde (The Tenant, Quest for Fire, Tess, Lord of the Flies, Pirates, Ghost Story, Barocco, Nelly & Monsieur Arnaud). The limited edition CD also includes the composer’s newly remastered score from the 1981 crime drama Choice of Arms (Le Choix des arme) directed by Alain Corneau and starring Yves Montand, Catherine Deneuve and Gerard Depardieu, as well as his (newly remastered and slightly expanded) music from the 1983 feature Waiter!
