Varese Sarabande Records has announced the details for the upcoming soundtrack release for the French historical drama The Princess of Montpensier. The album includes 15 tracks of Philippe Sarde’s original score from the film. The score was recorded with the Pro Arte Orchestra of London. The soundtrack album will be released on April 5, 2011. The movie directed by Bertrand Tavernier (Round Midnight, In the Electric Mist) centers on the love of Marie de Mezières for her dashing cousin Henri de Guise, thwarted when her father’s political ambitions force her into marriage with the well-connected Philippe de Montpensier, who she has never met. Intrada Records has announced a new soundtrack release for the 1993 action thriller Cliffhanger. The film’s music is written by Trevor Jones. The album comes in a 2 disc set and includes over 90 minutes of Jones’ original score. The newly remixed edition of the soundtrack is limited to 2000 copies. According to Nathan Barr’s Facebook fan page, the composer has been hired to score the upcoming crime comedy 30 Minutes or Less. The film is directed by Ruben Fleischer, who worked with composer David Sardy on the 2009 hit horror comedy Zombieland. In 30 Minutes or Less, two fledgling criminals kidnap a pizza delivery driver and force him to rob a bank within 30 minutes. The comedy stars Jesse Eisenberg, Danny McBride, Nick Swardson and Michael Pena. Sony Pictures will release the movie on August 12, 2011. Read the rest of this entry »

The Playlist recently reported that Nick Cave has confirmed to Triple R that he will be scoring the upcoming western The Wettest County in the World. Cave has already written the screenplay for the movie based on a novel by Matt Bondurant. The composer reunites with director John Hillcoat, who worked with Cave on his previous movies The Proposition and The Road. No word yet on if Cave’s co-composer Warren Ellis will be involved on the new project. The Wettest County in the World stars Shia Labeouf, Tom Hardy, Guy Pearce, Gary Oldman, Mia Wasikowska, Jessica Chastain and Jason Clarke. The film revolves around a moonshine gang operating in the bootlegging capital of America — Franklin County, Va. — during Prohibition. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie is currently in pre-production in Georgia and is scheduled to begin filming on Feb. 28. Read the rest of this entry »

‘Beastly’ Soundtrack albums announced

Lakeshore Records has announced two different soundtrack albums for the upcoming teen fantasy romance Beastly. The score album features the original score from the movie by composer Marcelo Zarvos. A separate song album will include songs from the film from such artists as Hanover Swain, Regina Spektor, The Vines and Ginsey. Brian Tyler has been hired to score the horror sequel Final Destination 5. He previously scored the fourth part of the franchise The Final Destination, which was the first one released in 3D and turned out to be the highest grossing entry in the series. Final Destination 5 marks the live action feature directing debut for Steven Quale, who previously co-directed the 2005 documentary Aliens of the Deep alongside James Cameron. The film stars Nicholas D’Agosto, Emma Bell, Tony Todd and David Koechner. The new movie follows the concept of the previous parts and sees a new batch of victims, co-workers on a corporate retreat, escaping the collapse of a city’s suspension bridge. Film Music Reporter has learned that Edward Shearmur has taken over scoring duties on the upcoming comedy Jumping the Broom. He is replacing composers Wendy and Lisa (Wendy Melvoin and Lisa Coleman), who have previously been hired to score the film as reported last November. The movie directed by Salim Akil stars Angela Bassett, Paula Patton, Laz Alonso, Loretta Devine, Mike Epps and Julie Bowen and centers around two very different African American families that converge on Martha’s Vineyard one weekend for a wedding. Jumping the Broom will be released for Mother’s Day weekend on May 6, 2011 by Sony Pictures. Relativity Music Group has announced a soundtrack album for the upcoming sci-fi romance thriller The Adjustment Bureau. The album includes Thomas Newman’s original score from the film, as well as the song The Future’s Bright, which was written for the film by Newman and singer/songwriter Richard Ashcroft (former frontman of The Verve). Dick and is directed by George Nolfi. Three new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:

The teen sci-fi action movie I Am Number Four directed by D.J. Caruso and starring Alex Pettyfer, Dianne Agron, Timothy Olyphant and Teresa Palmer features a score by Trevor Rabin, as well as many songs from such artists as Beck, Kings of Leons and The Black Keys. No soundtrack album has been announced for the Michael Bay and Steven Spielberg-produced movie. There is about 45 minutes of Rabin’s score in the film, which would make a soundtrack release a definite possibility. Check back on this site if an announcement will be made.

Also opening is the mystery thriller Unknown directed by Jaume Collet-Serra and starring Liam Neeson, January Jones, Diane Kruger, Frank Langella and Aidan Quinn. The music for the Joel Silver-produced movie is written by John Ottman and Alexander Rudd. Margin Call is a thriller that revolves around the key people at a investment bank over a 24-hour period during the early stages of the financial crisis. The film marks the feature directing debut of J.C. Chandor and stars Kevin Spacey, Paul Bettany, Jeremy Irons, Zachary Quinto, Penn Badgley, Simon Baker, Mary McDonnell, Stanley Tucci and Demi Moore.
