Sony Music is set to re-release the best-selling soundtrack for James Cameron’s Titanic to coincide with the 3D release of the film. The album includes the original music by James Horner who received his first two Academy Awards for his work on the film, including both the score and the Celine Dion-performed song My Heart Will Go On. The reissue will be released on March 27, 2012 and can be pre-ordered on Amazon. In addition, the label is also releasing a 4-disc collector’s edition, which includes the newly-remastered version of the original soundtrack, the album Back to Titanic, as well as a previously unreleased disc of period music recorded for the movie by I Salonisti – the five-piece quintet that appears in the film and a new compilation of songs from the early 1900s entitled Popular Music From The Titanic Era. Klaus Badelt Scoring ‘Jock’
Klaus Badelt is scoring the upcoming 3D animated film Jock. The film based on Sir Percy Fitzpatrick’s classic book Jock on the Bushveld is directed by Duncan MacNeillie and marks South Africa’s first 3D animated feature film. While Badelt is writing the orchestral score for the film, the movie also includes original songs by Bryan Adams, Alan Menken and Johnny Clogg among other songwriters. Tim Rice (The Lion King, Aladdin) is the principal lyricist of the songs. Bryan Adams is also voicing the film’s central character of the fearless dog Jock who helps his master survive the wild challenges of the 1880s gold rush in the northeast of what would become South Africa. Donald Sutherland has signed on to narrate the film.
Nick Cave to score ‘The Wettest County in the World’
The Playlist recently reported that Nick Cave has confirmed to Triple R that he will be scoring the upcoming western The Wettest County in the World. Cave has already written the screenplay for the movie based on a novel by Matt Bondurant. The composer reunites with director John Hillcoat, who worked with Cave on his previous movies The Proposition and The Road. No word yet on if Cave’s co-composer Warren Ellis will be involved on the new project. The Wettest County in the World stars Shia Labeouf, Tom Hardy, Guy Pearce, Gary Oldman, Mia Wasikowska, Jessica Chastain and Jason Clarke. The film revolves around a moonshine gang operating in the bootlegging capital of America — Franklin County, Va. — during Prohibition. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie is currently in pre-production in Georgia and is scheduled to begin filming on Feb. 28.
‘Drive Angry’ Soundtrack announced
Lakeshore Records has announced a soundtrack album for the action movie Drive Angry 3D. The album includes the original score by composer Michael Wandmacher. The soundtrack will be available digitally on February 22, 2011 and will get a CD release on March 8. To pre-order the CD, visit Amazon. An iTunes link will be added once the album becomes available. Drive Angry 3D centers around a vengeful father, who chases after the men who killed his daughter. The film directed by Patrick Lussier and starring Nicolas Cage and Amber Heard will be released in theaters on February 25. Mark Isham to score ‘Dolphin Tale’
Mark Isham revealed in a recent interview on Scorenotes that he just signed on to score the upcoming family drama Dolphin Tale. The movie centers on the friendship between a boy and a dolphin whose tail was lost in a crab trap. The film stars Morgan Freeman, Ashley Judd, Harry Connick, Jr., Kris Kristofferson and Nathan Gamble. Dolphin Tale was shot in 3D and is supposed to feature spectacular underwater sequences. The film is directed by actor turned director Charles Martin Smith, who previously worked with Mychael Danna on his last two theatrical features (The Snow Walker, Stone of Destiny).
