Edward Shearmur has been hired to score the upcoming BBC mini-series The Outcast. The two-parter is directed by Iain Softley and stars George Mackay, Greg Wise, Hattie Morahan and Jessica Brown Findlay. The drama is based on the bestselling novel by Sadie Jones who also scripted the TV adaptation and follows a young boy who struggles to fit into the life of a post-war English village after witnessing the death of his mother. Christine Langan (The Queen) & Beth Pattinson are executive producing the project for BBC, alongside Pete Czernin & Graham Broadbent (The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, In Bruges) for Blueprint Pictures.

Edward Shearmur to Score Peter Bogdanovich’s ‘Squirrels to the Nuts’
Edward Shearmur has taken over scoring duties on the upcoming comedy Squirrels to the Nuts. The film is directed by Peter Bogdanovich (The Last Picture Show, Paper Moon) and stars Jennifer Aniston, Owen Wilson, Kathryn Hahn, Imogen Poots, Will Forte, Rhys Ifans, Lucy Punch, Cybill Shepherd, Ahna O’Reilly and Jake Hoffman. The movie follows a married Broadway director who meets a call girl and tries to convince her to change her life. Bogdanavich has co-written the script with Louise Stratten and Wes Anderson (The Grand Budapest Hotel, The Royal Tenenbaums) is producing the project with Noah Baumbach (Greenberg, Frances Ha), Holly Wiersma (Bobby), Logan Levy and music supervisor George Drakoulias.
Edward Shearmur Scoring ‘Spinning Plates’
Edward Shearmur has recently recorded his score for the upcoming documentary Spinning Plates. The film is directed by Joseph Levy and centers on three restaurants – including a cutting-edge restaurant named the sixth best in the world, an 150-year-old family restaurant and a fledgling Mexican restaurant – extraordinary for what they are today as well as the challenges they have overcome. Levy is also producing the Ambush Entertainment production with Miranda Bailey (Super, The Oh in Ohio), Matthew Leutwyler (Answers to Nothing) and Jacqueline Lesko. Taz Goldstein, Phil Rosenthal (Everybody Loves Raymond) and Sim Sarna are executive producing the project. No word yet on a release date for the film.
Edward Shearmur to Score ABC’s ‘Devious Maids’ Pilot
Edward Shearmur has signed on to score ABC’s drama pilot Devious Maids. The show is created by Marc Cherry (Desperate Housewives) and stars Ana Ortiz, Dania Ramirez, Roselyn Sanchez and Judy Reyes as four maids with ambition and dreams of their own who work for the rich and famous in Beverly Hills. Brett Cullen, Brianna Brown, Drew Van Acker and Susan Lucci are co-starring. Paul McGuigan (Lucky Number Slevin, Wicker Park) is directing the pilot. Cherry has written the pilot’s script and is executive producing the show with actress Eva Longoria who makes her TV series producing debut. Also executive producing are Sabrina Wind, Paul Presburger, David Lonner, Larry Shuman, John Mass and Michael Garcia. Cherry’s current hit show Desperate Housewives, which is its series finale in a few weeks is scored by Steve Jablonsky and features a main titles theme by Danny Elfman.
Edward Shearmur to Score ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days’
Edward Shearmur is set to score the upcoming family movie Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days. The movie is directed by David Bowers (Flushed Away) who also directed the previous Wimpy Kid installment and stars Zachary Gordon, Robert Capron, Devon Bostick, Rachael Harris and Steve Zahn who are all reprising their roles from the previous films. In third part of the series, “Wimpy Kid” Greg Heffley suffers the dog days of summer vacation, which include a camping trip gone wrong and a mishap at a public pool. Nina Jacobson (The Hunger Games) and Bradford Simpson are producing the project. The film marks the composer’s second score for the franchise following last year’s Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules.
Ed Shearmur to Score ‘Have a Little Faith’
Edward Shearmur is scoring the upcoming TV drama Have a Little Faith. The movie directed by Jon Avnet (Fried Green Tomatoes, Up Close & Personal) is based on the best-selling book by Mitch Albom (Tuesdays with Morrie, The Five People You Meet in Heaven) and stars Laurence Fishburne as a Detroit teacher who overcame a life mired in drugs and crime. Bradley Whitford portrays Mitch Albom who met the reverend-in-recovery when he wrote newspaper columns about homeless people and homeless shelters. Anika Noni Rose and Martin Landau are co-starring in the Hallmark Hall of Fame production. Shearmur has previously worked with Avnet a number of times, including on the director’s most recent theatrical features 88 Minutes and Righteous Kill.
‘Abduction’ Soundtrack Details
Epic Records has announced the details for the soundtrack release of the action thriller Abduction. The album features a score suite composed by composer Edward Shearmur, as well as several songs from the movie by such artists as Train, Lenny Kravitz, Raphael Saadiq, Oh Land, Cobra Starship, Black Stone Cherry, Matthew Koma, Alexis Jordan and Donora. The soundtrack will be released on September 20, 2011 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Abduction is directed by John Singleton and stars Taylor Lautner, Lily Colins, Alfred Molina, Jason Isaacs, Maria Bello and Sigourney Weaver. The movie will be released in theaters on September 23 by Lionsgate.
‘Jumping the Broom’ Soundtrack released
Madison Gate Records has released a soundtrack album for the comedy Jumping the Broom. The album includes Edward Shearmur’s original score, as well as several songs from the film. Artists featured on the soundtrack include Shelea Frazier, Louis Armstrong, Al Green, Aretha Franklin, Gonzales, Cupid and Curtis Mayfield. The album is currently available to download on iTunes. Jumping the Broom is directed by Salim Akil and stars Angela Bassett, Paula Patton, Laz Alonso, Loretta Devine, Mike Epps and Julie Bowen. The film is opening in theaters this Friday, May 6.

Film Music Reporter has learned that composer Edward Shearmur has been tapped to score the upcoming thriller Abduction. The film centers on a young man who discovers his own baby picture on a missing persons website and sets out to uncover the truth about his life. The movie is directed by John Singleton who has been using composer David Arnold on his previous four feature films (Shaft, Baby Boy, 2 Fast 2 Furious and Four Brothers) and has also worked with John Williams on the 1997 film Rosewood. Abduction stars Taylor Lautner in his first leading man role, as well as Lily Colins, Alfred Molina, Jason Isaacs, Maria Bello and Sigourney Weaver.
Edward Shearmur taking over ‘Jumping the Broom’
Film Music Reporter has learned that Edward Shearmur has taken over scoring duties on the upcoming comedy Jumping the Broom. He is replacing composers Wendy and Lisa (Wendy Melvoin and Lisa Coleman), who have previously been hired to score the film as reported last November. The movie directed by Salim Akil stars Angela Bassett, Paula Patton, Laz Alonso, Loretta Devine, Mike Epps and Julie Bowen and centers around two very different African American families that converge on Martha’s Vineyard one weekend for a wedding.
