Composer Edward Shearmur has been tapped to score the family comedy Diary of a Wimpy Kid 2: Rodrick Rules. He is following Theodore Shapiro, who scored the first part last year and who is currently busy scoring the Russell Brand-starring comedy Arthur as reported here. The sequel is directed by David Bowers, who previously helmed the animation features Flushed Away (with a score by Harry Gregson-Williams) and Astro Boy (scored by John Ottman). Most cast members return for the sequel including Zachary Gordon, Rachael Harris and Steve Zahn. In the second part, wimpy kid Greg Heffley and his older brother must deal with their parents misguided efforts to make them bond.

Two new Varese Sarabande soundtracks
Varese Sarabande has announced two new CD releases to be released in May. The label will release Marc Streitenfeld’s score for Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood. The movie stars Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett and opens in theaters on May 14. The movie marks Streitenfeld’s fourth collaboration with director Ridley Scott after American Gangster, A Good Year and Body of Lies. The album will be released on May 11.
On the same day, Varese Sarabande will also release Edward Shearmur’s score for the drama Mother and Child. The movie stars Naomi Watts, Annette Benning, Samuel L. Jackson, Kerry Washington and Jimmy Smits and reunites Shearmur with director Rodrigo Garcia (Nine Lives, Passengers). The movie will be released by Sony Pictures Classics on May 7. Shearmur scores Furry Vengeance
Ed Shearmur is writing the score for the upcoming family adventure comedy Furry Vengeance for Summit Entertainment. The movie starring Brendan Fraser, Ken Jeong and Brooke Shields is directed by Roger Kumble. Shearmur and Kumble previously worked together on Cruel Intentions, The Sweetest Thing and College Road Trip. In the movie, Fraser plays a real estate developer whose new housing subdivision faces a unique group of protesters, local woodland creatures who don’t want their homes disturbed. Furry Vengeance is scheduled to be released on April 30.
Shearmur’s music can currently be heard in theaters in The Wolfman where he received an additional music credit alongside main composer Danny Elfman. Also coming out this year is the Shearmur scored Mother and Child which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival last September and has been picked up by Sony Pictures Classics for a domestic release this May. Mother and Child stars Naomi Watts and Samuel L. Jackson and is directed by Rodrigo Garcia (Nine Lives, Passengers).
