La-La Land Records has announced a remastered re-issue of the soundtrack for the 1980 drama Altered States directed by Ken Russell and starring William Hurt, Blair Brown and Bob Balaban. The album features the film’s original music composed by John Corigliano (The Red Violin, Revolution) who received his first Academy Award nomination for his score. The soundtrack for the Warner Bros. Pictures production is limited to 2500 copies. John Corigliano’s Rejected ‘Edge of Darkness’ Score Released
Perseverance Records has announced the premiere release of John Corigliano‘s rejected score for the 2010 thriller Edge of Darkness. The album, entitled Music from the Edge, features the unused score from the film composed by the Academy Award-winning composer whose other film scores include The Red Violin and Altered States. Howard Shore ended up replacing the composer on the film and his score was released on WaterTower Music. To order the release and to listen to audio clips, click here. Edge of Darkness is directed by Martin Campbell and stars Mel Gibson, Ray Winston, Danny Huston, Bojana Novakovic and Jay O. Sanders. The film based on the 1985 BBC mini-series revolves around a detective who is investigating the murder of his activist daughter, while uncovering political conspiracies and cover-ups in the process.
Two new Varese Sarabande soundtracks
Varese Sarabande has announced two new CD releases to be released in May. The label will release Marc Streitenfeld’s score for Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood. The movie stars Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett and opens in theaters on May 14. The movie marks Streitenfeld’s fourth collaboration with director Ridley Scott after American Gangster, A Good Year and Body of Lies. The album will be released on May 11.
On the same day, Varese Sarabande will also release Edward Shearmur’s score for the drama Mother and Child. The movie stars Naomi Watts, Annette Benning, Samuel L. Jackson, Kerry Washington and Jimmy Smits and reunites Shearmur with director Rodrigo Garcia (Nine Lives, Passengers). The movie will be released by Sony Pictures Classics on May 7.
