Film Music Reporter has learned that composer Edward Shearmur has been tapped to score the upcoming thriller Abduction. The film centers on a young man who discovers his own baby picture on a missing persons website and sets out to uncover the truth about his life. The movie is directed by John Singleton who has been using composer David Arnold on his previous four feature films (Shaft, Baby Boy, 2 Fast 2 Furious and Four Brothers) and has also worked with John Williams on the 1997 film Rosewood. Abduction stars Taylor Lautner in his first leading man role, as well as Lily Colins, Alfred Molina, Jason Isaacs, Maria Bello and Sigourney Weaver. Lionsgate is planning to release the film on September 23, 2011.

The film marks Shearmur’s third scoring assignment of 2011. As previously reported, the composer has already scored the family movie sequel Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules coming out next week and the comedy Jumping the Broom starring Angela Bassett and Paula Patton, which will be released this May.
