20120105-121120.jpgVarese Sarabande has announced the details for the soundtrack release of the epic historical drama There Be Dragons: Secretos De Pasión (Secrets of Passion). The album includes the original score from the movie composed by Robert Folk. The soundtrack will be released on February 7, 2012 is now available for pre-order on Amazon. There Be Dragons: Secrets of Passion is directed by Roland Joffe and stars Charlie Cox, Wes Bentley, Dougray Scott, Rodrigo Santoro, Derek Jacobi and Olga Kurylenko. The film is a recut version of the drama that was released last May in the US (and featured a different score by Stephen Warbeck). MI6 – The World of James Bond is reporting that Thomas Newman will be scoring the newest James Bond movie Skyfall. Film Music Reporter has learned at the end of last year that Newman had been attached to the film for several months, but it appeared that he was not officially signed on yet at that point. The film is directed by Sam Mendes who worked with Newman on four of his five feature projects, including American Beauty and Road to Perdition. The previous five James Bond films have been scored by David Arnold. Skyfall stars Daniel Craig, Javier Bardem,  Judi Dench, Naomie Harris, Berenice Marlohe, Ralph Fiennes, Albert Finney and Ben Whishaw. In the film, Bond’s loyalty to M is tested as her past comes back to haunt her. As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost. The screenplay is written by Neal Purvis & Robert Wade (Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace) and John Logan (The Last Samurai, Rango). Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. According to JWfan.net, Sony Classical will be releasing a new edition of the soundtrack for Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace to coincide with the release of the 3D re-release of the film in February. The album featuring the original music composed by John Williams will be a straight re-issue of the soundtrack that was released at the time of the movie’s release in 1999. The album is available to download on Amazon and audio clips can be checked out below. The 3D version of Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace directed by George Lucas and starring Ewan McGregor, Liam Neeson, Natalie Portman, Jake Llyod, Ian McDiarmid, Anthony Daniels and Kenny Baker will be released in theaters nationwide on February 10, 2012. La-La Land Records has released a new limited edition release of the score for Joel Schumacher’s 1995 comic book adventure Batman Forever. The music is written by Academy Award winner Elliot Goldenthal. The 2-CD set includes the remastered original score album release, as well as the composer’s score in chronological order, including around an hour of previously unreleased music. Batman Forever starring Val Kilmer, Tommy Lee Jones, Jim Carrey and Nicole Kidman was Schmumacher’s and Goldenthal’s first collaboration in the Batman series, which was followed in 1997 with Batman & Robin. ‘Contraband’ Soundtrack Released

Back Lot Music has released the official soundtrack album for the thriller Contraband. The album includes the film’s original score composed by Clinton Shorter (District 9), as well as several songs from the movie by artists including J Roddy Walston and the Business, Eli “Paperboy” Reed and The True Loves, Ryan Shaw, The Heavy and Big Head Todd & The Monsters. The album is now available to download on Amazon. Audio clips from all tracks on the album can be checked out below. Contraband is directed by Baltasar Kormakur and stars Mark Wahlberg, Kate Beckinsale, Ben Foster, Lukas Haas, Giovanni Ribisi, Diego Luna and J.K. Simmons. Mark Mothersbaugh has written the score for the new Showtime original series House of Lies. The dark comedy created by Matthew Carnahan (Dirt) is based on Martin Kihn’s book House of Lies: How Management Consultants Steal Your Watch and Then Tell You the Time. The series stars Don Cheadle as a self-loathing management consultant who will use any means to get the information his clients need. Kristen Bell, Dawn Olivieri, Ben Schwartz, Josh Lawson, Donis Leonard Jr., Richard Schiff and Glynn Turman are co-starring. Carnahan is executive producing the comedy with Jessika Borsiczky (Flash Forward) and Stephen Hopkins (24, The Ghost and the Darkness) who also directed the pilot episode. The details of the soundtrack album for the action thriller Man of a Ledge have been revealed. The album includes 14 tracks of the movie’s original score composed by Henry Jackman (X-Men: First Class, Puss in Boots). The soundtrack will be released digitally on January 17, 2012 by Summit Entertainment and on CD on February 7. Gabriel Mann is scoring a couple of new TV shows that are set to premiere in 2012. Among the composer’s new projects is the half-hour comedy Bent. The series is created by Tad Quill (Scrubs, Spin City) and stars Amanda Peet as a recently divorced lawyer and David Walton as an irresponsible contractor and recovering gambling addict who is hired to remodel her kitchen. Jeffrey Tambor, Margo Harshman and Joey King are co-starring. Craig Zisk (Nurse Jackie, Weeds) directed the first two episodes. The Universal Media Studios-produced show is set to premiere as a mid-season replacement this spring on NBC. Read the rest of this entry »

Mario Grigorov is the composer of the thriller The Paperboy. The film reunites Grigorov with director Lee Daniels. They have previously collaborated on the 2009 indie hit Previous and 2005’s Shadowboxer. Lee’s third directorial feature stars Matthew McConaughey, Zak Efron, Nicole Kidman, John Cusack and Scott Glenn. The movie is based on the 1995 novel by Pete Dexter and centers around two brothers who team up to investigate a possible miscarriage of justice surrounding a death row inmate convicted of killing the local sheriff. Dexter has also written the film’s screenplay. Daniels is producing the independent movie alongside Hilary Shor (Children of Men). The Paperboy is currently in post-production. No word yet on when the film will be released.

While no new movies are opening wide this week, a couple of new films are receiving a release in select cities:

The highest profile title among this week’s openings is The Iron Lady directed by Phyllida Lloyd and starring Meryl Streep as former British prime minister Margaret Thatcher. Thomas Newman has composed the original score for the movie. Sony Masterworks has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as a song from the musical The King and I, a track from the opera Norma and Johann Sebastian Bach’s Prelude No. 1 in C Major. Also opening in limited release is the drama Pariah written and directed by Dee Rees about a 17-year-old African-American woman in Brooklyn struggling with her sexuality. Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the movie’s songs from artists such as as Tamar-kali and Sparlha Swa.
