Four new movies are opening nationwide this week:
Already in theaters since Wednesday is the sci-fi action movie RoboCop directed by José Padilha and starring Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton, Abbie Cornish, Jennifer Ehle, Jay Baruchel, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Jackie Earle Haley, Michael K. Williams and Samuel L. Jackson. Pedro Bromfman who previously scored Padilha’s Elite Squad movies has composed the film’s original score. Sony Classical has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score earlier this week. Check out our previous news article for the full album details and to listen to audio clips. Opening today is the fantasy romance Winter’s Tale directed by Akiva Goldsman and starring Colin Farrell, Jessica Brown Findlay, Jennifer Connelly, William Hurt, Russell Crowe, Eva Marie Saint,, Ripley Sobo and Mckayla Twiggs. The film’s music is composed by Hans Zimmer (The Dark Knight, Inception) and Rupert Gregson-Williams (Bee Movie, Click). WaterTower Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composers’ score, as well as the song Miracle performed by KT Tunstall. Jeff Beal has recently composed the score for the upcoming Lifetime original movie A Day Late and a Dollar Short. The film is based on the New York Times bestseller by Terry McMillan (Waiting to Exhale, How Stella Got Her Groove Back) and stars Whoopi Goldberg as Viola Price, the irascible matriarch who tries to create some order within her family after learning her next asthma attack might kill her. Ving Rhames, Mekhi Phifer, Anika Noni Rose and Kimberly Elise are co-starring. Stephen Tolkin is directing the drama and Shernold Edwards (Haven) has written the screenplay. Goldberg and Tolkin producing the project alongside Tom Leonardis (Ruby’s Bucket of Blood), Jeffrey Hayes (The Starter Wife, Crusoe) and Bill Haber (Rizzoli & Isles). 
Psychedelic Records has released a soundtrack album for the indie romantic drama Charlie Countryman. The album features the film’s original music composed by Christophe Beck (Frozen, The Hangover, The Muppets) and Dead Mono. The soundtrack is now available to download on 
Harry Escott is currently recording his score for the upcoming mini-series New Worlds. The historical drama is written and created by Peter Flannery (Funny Bones, Our Friends In The North) & Martine Brant and stars Jamie Dornan, Freya Mavor, Alice Englert and Joe Dempsie. The four-parter is set in the 1680s during the Restoration period and follows the bitter struggles of two young men and two young women caught up in the events of the time in England and America. Charles Martin (Skins, Run) is directing the series and Johann Knobel (Shameless) is producing the Channel 4 production. Flannery, Brant and John Yorke are executive producing for Company Pictures. The project is the follow-up to 2008’s mini-series The Devil’s Whore starring Andrea Riseborough, Michael Fassbender & Dominic West, which featured a score by Murray Gold (Doctor Who). Escott’s previous scoring credits include Steve McQueen’s Shame, David Slade’s Hard Candy and last year’s Welcome to the Punch. 
The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) will present the first-ever live “Oscar Concert” celebrating this year’s nominated scores and songs on Thursday, February 27, at 8 p.m. at UCLA’s Royce Hall in Los Angeles. The program will feature an 80-piece orchestra performing suites from each of the nominated original scores, conducted by their composers:
The Guild of Music Supervisors announced the nominations for its 4th Annual awards ceremony, which will take place on Wednesday, February 26, at Mack Sennett Studios in Hollywood. The awards will recognize outstanding Music Supervisors in 14 categories representing Motion Picture, Television, Games, Trailers and Advertising. Photek is composing the music for the upcoming Fox drama Gang Related. The show is created by Chris Morgan (Fast Five, Wanted) and stars Ramon Rodriguez, RZA, Sung Kang, Inbar Lavi, Terry O’Quinn, Shantel VanSanten, Cliff Curtis and Jay Hernandez. The series follows a rising star in Los Angeles’ elite Gang Task Force who teams up with a longtime Task Force member to take on the city’s most dangerous gangs, including one he has an allegiance to. Morgan is also executive producing the 20th Century Fox Television and Imagine Entertainment production with Scott Rosenbaum (The Shield, Chuck), Brian Grazer (24, Friday Night Lights, A Beautiful Mind) and Francie Calfo (The Great Escape, The Playboy Club). Allen Hughes (The Book of Eli, From Hell) directed and served as an executive producer on the pilot episode. 
Oscars show producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron announced today that singer-songwriter Karen O will, for the first time, perform the Academy Award-nominated original song The Moon Song for a global television audience on the Oscars on March 2, 2014. The song from Spike Jonze’s romantic drama Her starring Joaquin Phoenix, Scarlett Johansson, Amy Adams and Rooney Mara is one of the four nominated titles in the Best Original Song category. It was previously announced that all the three other songs (Happy from Despicable Me 2, Let It Go from Frozen and Ordinary Love from Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom) will also be performed at the event. Karen O who is the lead singer of the band Yeah Yeah Yeahs and has previously written songs for Jonze’s Where the Wild Things Are is Oscar-nominated for the first time. 
Milan Records will release the official soundtrack album for the sci-fi thriller Under the Skin. The album features the film’s original music composed by Mica Levi from the experimental pop music band Micachu and the Shape. The soundtrack will be released on April 1, 2014. Under the Skin directed by Jonathan Glazer (Birth, Sexy Beast) is based on a novel by Michael Faber and stars Scarlett Johansson as an alien disguised as a mesmerizing woman who scours remote highways and backroads for human prey. The film premiered at last year’s Venice and Toronto Film Festivals and was picked up by A24 Films for domestic distribution.
