Two new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:

Guaranteed to top the weekend box office is Disney’s live-action adaptation of Cinderella directed by Kenneth Branagh and starring Lily James, Cate Blanchett, Richard Madden, Stellan Skarsgard, Holliday Grainger, Sophie McShera, Derek Jacobi and Helena Bonham-Carter. The film’s original music is composed by Patrick Doyle (Sense and Sensibility, Thor, Rise of the Planet of the Apes). Walt Disney Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well the film’s songs including the original end titles track Strong written by Doyle, Branagh & Tommy Danvers and performed by Sonna Rele. Playing in front of Cinderella is Disney’s new animated short Frozen Fever directed by Jennifer Lee & Chris Buck and featuring the voices of Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, Jonathan Groff and Josh Gad. Christophe Beck (Edge of Tomorrow, The Muppets, The Hangover) who scored 2013’s feature has also composed the score for the short film, while Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Bobby Lopez have contributed a new original song. Douglas Pipes to Score ‘Krampus’

Legendary Pictures has announced that Douglas Pipes is set to score the upcoming horror comedy Krampus. The film is directed by Michael Dougherty (writer of X2 & Superman Returns) and stars Adam Scott, Toni Collette, Allison Tolman, David Koechner, Conchata Ferrell, Emjay Anthony, Stefania Owen and Krista Stadler. The movie follows a young boy who turns his back on Christmas as his dysfunctional family comes together and clashes over the holidays. When they accidentally unleash the wrath of Krampus — an ancient entity from European folklore — beloved holiday icons take on a monstrous life of their own. Dougherty has also co-written the screenplay with Zach Shields and Todd Casey (Thundercats) and is also producing the project with Legendary’s Thomas Tull & Jon Jashni (Godzilla, Pacific Rim, 300: Rise of an Empire) and Alex Garcia. ‘Far from the Madding Crowd’ Soundtrack Announced

Sony Classical will release a soundtrack album for the period drama Far from the Madding Crowd. The album features the film’s original music composed by Craig Armstrong (Moulin Rouge!, The Great Gatsby, The Incredible Hulk, Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo & Juliet). The soundtrack will be released on April 28, 2015 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The cover art and audio clips will be posted on this page soon. Far from the Madding Crowd is directed by Thomas Vinterberg and stars Carey Mulligan, Matthias Schoenaerts, Tom Sturridge and Michael Sheen. The movie is based on the literary classic by Thomas Hardy and tells the story of an independent and headstrong woman who attracts three very different suitors: a sheep farmer, a handsome and reckless Sergeant and a prosperous and mature bachelor. ‘Backcountry’ Soundtrack Details

Screamworks Records will release a soundtrack album for the horror thriller Backcountry. The album features the film’s original music composed by Frères Lumières. Backcountry is written and directed by Adam MacDonald and stars Missy Peregrym, Jeff Roop and Eric Balfour. The movie follows a busy executive and her boyfriend on a camping trip, where they have an unsettling encounter with a stranger wandering through the woods and take a detour that leaves them at the mercy of the wilderness and its ferocious inhabitants. The album features the film’s original music composed by Paul Cantelon (The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, Conviction, Everything Is Illuminated). Christopher Lennertz to Score ‘Michelle Darnell’

Christopher Lennertz revealed in a recent interview with Skewed n’ Reviewed that he is set to score the upcoming comedy Michelle Darnell. The film is directed by Ben Falcone (Tammy) and stars Melissa McCarthy, Peter Dinklage, Kristen Bell, Kathy Bates and Timothy Simons. The movie follows a titan of industry, who is sent to prison after she’s caught for insider trading and later emerges ready to rebrand herself as America’s latest sweetheart. McCarthy and Falcone have also written the screenplay with Steve Mallory. The film will be produced by McCarthy and Falcone through their On the Day production company, alongside Will Ferrell, Chris Henchy & Adam McKay (Anchorman, Talladega Nights, The Other Guys) for Gary Sanchez Productions. ‘Desert Dancer’ Soundtrack Announced

Varese Sarabande will release a soundtrack album for the drama Desert Dancer. The album features the film’s original score composed by Benjamin Wallfisch (Dear Wendy, The Escapist, Summer in February), including the music for three extended dance sequences especially created for the movie as a collaboration between Wallfisch and choreographer Akram Khan. The soundtrack will be released on April 7, 2015 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Desert Dancer is directed by Richard Raymond and stars Freida Pinto, Reece Ritchie, Tom Cullen, Nazanin Boniadi and Makram J. Khoury. The movie tells the true story of Afshin Ghaffarian who – during the volatile climate of the 2009 presidential election, where many cultural freedoms were threatened – risked her life and formed an underground dance company with her friends. The album features the film’s original music composed and conducted by John Debney (The Passion of the Christ, Elf, Iron Man 2, Bruce Almighty). The soundtrack will be released digitally on March 24, 2015 by Varese Sarabande and is now available for pre-order on Amazon, where you can also listen to audio clips. A limited edition CD is set to come out a week later on March 31. The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water is directed by Paul Tibbitt and stars Antonio Banderas, as well as the voices of Tom Kenny, Clancy Brown, Rodger Bumpass, Bill Fagerbakke, Carolyn Lawrence and Douglas Lawrence.
