Fil Eisler to Score Fox’s ‘Empire’

empireFil Eisler has been tapped to score the upcoming Fox drama Empire. The show is created by Lee Daniels (Precious, The Butler & Danny Strong (Recount, Game Change) and stars Terrence Howard, Taraji P. Henson, Gabourey Sidibe, Bryshere Gray, Jussie Smollett, Trai Byers, Malik Yoba, Grace Gealey and Kaitlin Dubleday. The series follows the head of a music empire whose three sons and ex-wife all battle for his throne. Daniels & Strong are also executive producing the Imagine Entertainment and 20th Century Fox Television production with Brian Grazer (Apollo 13, 24, A Beautiful Mind) and Francie Calfo. Daniels also directed the pilot episode. It was previously reported that Timbaland will be writing and producing the original songs for the show. Read the rest of this entry »

dave-porterThe Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Dave Porter is set to score the upcoming AMC original series Better Call Saul. The show starring Bob Odenkirk is a spin-off of AMC’s Breaking Bad and focuses on the character of attorney Saul Goodman from the Emmy-winning hit drama. Porter has previously scored all episodes of Breaking Bad. The composer also co-wrote a song for a new music video promoting the show with Adam Dormblum. The song is performed by Junior Brown and features lyrics by series creators Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould. Check out the music video after the jump. The album features the film’s original music composed by Nathan Johnson (Looper, Brick, Don Jon, The Brothers Bloom). Kill the Messenger is directed by Michael Cuesta, written by Peter Landesman and stars Jeremy Renner, Rosemarie DeWitt, Ray Liotta, Tim Blake Nelson, Barry Pepper, Oliver Platt, Michael Sheen, Paz Vega, Michael Kenneth Williams, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Andy Garcia. mulaneyPremiering tonight is the new Fox comedy Mulaney produced by Lorne Michaels (30 Rock) and created by John Mulaney who also stars in the series alongside Seaton Smith, Nasim Pedrad, Martin Short, Elliott Gould and Zack Pearlman. The show’s original score is composed by Matter Music (The New Adventures of Old Christine, Better with You, Friend with Benefits). Mulaney follows a 29-year old rising stand-up comic who is trying to take his career to the next level. The comedy will air every Sunday night on Fox. the-flashPremiering on Tuesday, October 7, is the new CW superhero drama The Flash based on the DC Comic and starring Grant Gustin, Jesse L. Martin, Candice Patton, Tom Kavanagh, Danielle Panabaker, Rick Cosnett and Carlos Valdes. The show’s original music is composed by Blake Neely (The Mentalist, Resurrection, The Pacific, Life as We Know It) who is also scoring the network’s Arrow, which is returning for a third season. alexis-samAlexis & Sam are scoring the upcoming indie drama Lila & Eve. The film is directed by Charles Stone III (Drumline, Mr 300) and stars Viola Davis, Jennifer Lopez, Shea Whigham, Yolonda Ross, Aml Ameen and Andre Royo. The movie follows a grief stricken mother, who in the aftermath of her son’s murder in a drive-by shooting, attends a support group where she meets a woman who has lost her daughter. Together, they embark on a killing spree of their own. Pat Gilfillan has written the screenplay. Sara Risher (Raise Your Voice) is producing the project with Darrin Reed, Julius Tennon and Damian Ganczewski. ‘Automata’ Soundtrack Details

Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:

annabelleOpening in most theaters is the horror thriller Annabelle directed by John Leonetti, produced by James Wan and starring Annabelle Wallis, Alfre Woodard, Tony Amendola, Eric Ladin and Brian Howe. The film’s original music is composed by Joseph Bishara (The Conjuring, Insidious, Dark Skies). WaterTower Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score earlier this week. gone-girlAlso opening wide is the thriller Gone Girl directed by David Fincher and starring Ben Affleck, Rosamund Pike, Neil Patrick Harris, Tyler Perry, Kim Dickens, Patrick Fugit, Carrie Coon and David Clennon. Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross who previously scored Fincher’s The Social Network and The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo have composed the film’s original music. The album features the film’s original music composed by Bibio, including the original song Preen Your Own Wing. Also included are songs by Cut Copy, Black Marble, Koreless, Four Tet, Bob Dylan, as well as Nick Hallett & Ray Sweeten’s I Feel Love, which was featured in the movie’s first trailer. The show is created by Aaron Sorkin (The West Wing, The Social Network) and stars Jeff Daniels, Emily Mortimer, Sam Waterston, John Gallagher, Jr., Alison Pill, Thomas Sadoski, Dev Patel and Olivia Munn. The series follows the members of a cable news team on their quixotic mission to do the news well in the face of a fickle audience, corporate mandates and tangled personal relationships. Alex Wurman has previously scored the show’s first season, while Johnny Klimek composed the music for the second season. Thomas Newman provided the series’ main titles theme.
