Jon Ekstrand is reteaming with director Daniel Espinosa on the upcoming sci-fi thriller Life. The film stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Rebecca Ferguson, Ryan Reynolds, Olga Dihovichnaya, Ariyon Bakare and Hiroyuki Sanada. The movie follows the crew of the International Space Station, who, after retrieving a sample from Mars, discover that it displays signs of life, and proves to be more intelligent than expected. Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick (Deadpool, Zombieland, G.I. Joe: Retaliation) have written the screenplay. David Ellison & Dana Goldberg (Mission Impossible – Rogue Nation, Terminator Genisys) are producing the Skydance production with Bonnie Curtis (Minority Report, A.I. Hauschka (aka Volker Bertelmann) has been hired to score the upcoming period drama Ashes in the Snow. The film is directed by Marius Markevicius (The Other Dream Team) and stars Bel Powley, Jonah Hauer-King, Martin Wallstrom, Lisa Loven Kongsli, Sophie Cookson, Peter Franzen, Sam Hazeldine, James Cosmo, Adrian Schiller and Tom Sweet. The movie is based on Ruta Sepetys’ best-selling novel Between Shades of Gray and follows a 16-year-old girl who is forced to live in a Siberian work camp amid Stalin’s reign of terror in the Baltic region and attempts to use her art to send messages to her imprisoned father. Premiering on Wednesday, November 2, is the new IFC original series Stan Against Evil created by Dana Gould and starring John C. McGinley, Janet Varney, Nate Mooney, Deborah Baker Jr. and Mick Ignis. The show’s original music is composed by Eban Schletter (SpongeBob Square Pants, Another Period). The horror comedy follows a former sheriff of a small New England town who teams up with his younger replacement to investigate a series of supernatural occurrences. Premiering on Friday, November 4, is the Netflix original series The Crown created by Peter Morgan and starring Claire Foy, Matt Smith, Vanessa Kirby and John Lithgow. Timbaland’s ‘Skylanders Academy’ Theme Song ‘Harmony’ Released

Activision/Blizzard Music have released the theme song for the new Netflix animated series Skylanders Academy. The track, entitled Harmony, is performed by Timbaland feat. Dalton Diehl. Sony Masterworks will release a soundtrack album for the NBC television event Hairspray LIVE!. The album features the songs from the musical written by Marc Shaiman (A Few Good Men, Misery, Sister Act, City Slickers) and Scott Wittman (Smash, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) performed by the show’s cast. The only movie opening nationwide this weekend is the thriller Inferno directed by Ron Howard and starring Tom Hanks, Felicity Jones, Irrfan Khan, Omar Sy, Ben Foster and Sidse Babett Knudsen. The film’s original music is composed by Hans Zimmer (The Dark Knight, Gladiator, The Lion King, Inception, Rain Man, Black Hawk Down). Opening in limited release is the documentary Gimme Danger directed by Jim Jarmusch about the rock-n-roll band The Stooges. The movie doesn’t feature any original score and no soundtrack album has been released. The film recounts the hard-rocking history of Iggy Pop and The Stooges, who burst out of Michigan in the late ’60s with a savage and endlessly influential fusion of rock, blues, R&B, and free jazz.
