Alan Menken revealed today at Disney’s D23 Expo that he is writing new songs for the upcoming film adaptation of the animated Disney classic Aladdin. He will be collaborating with Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (Dear Evan Hansen, La La Land) who will be providing the lyrics for the songs. Howard Ashman and Tim Rice wrote the lyrics for Menken’s songs from the 1992 film, which are also expected to be featured in the remake. Guy Ritchie (Snatch, Sherlock Holmes) is attached to direct the movie, which will star Mena Massoud in the title role, alongside Naomi Scott as Princess Jasmine and Will Smith as the Genie. ‘Fargo’ Year 3 Soundtrack Details

Sony Classical will release a new soundtrack album for the FX original series Fargo. The album features selections of the show’s original music composed by Jeff Russo (Legion, The Night Of, Power, Snowfall) who recently received his third Emmy Award nomination for his work on the drama. Also included is Russo’s & show creator Noah Hawley’s cover version of the song Ship of Fools from the episode The House of Special Purpose. The soundtrack will be released digitally and physically on August 4, 2017 and is now available for pre-order here. Premiering tomorrow, July 17, is the new AMC and Channel 4 original series Loaded developed by Jon Brown based on the Israeli comedy drama Mesudarim and starring Jim Howick, Samuel Anderson, Jonny Sweet, Nick Helm and Mary McCormack. The show’s original music is composed by Jack C. Arnold (Albatross, War Book). Loaded revolves around the lives of three tech entrepreneurs and friends who have just sold their start up videogame company for hundreds of millions of pounds. Premiering on Friday, July 21, is the Disney Channel original movie Descendants 2 directed by Kenny Ortega and starring Dove Cameron, Sofia Carson, Cameron Boyce, Booboo Stewart, China Anne McClain, Thomas Doherty, Dylan Playfair and Mitchell Hope. David Lawrence (American Pie, High School Musical) has composed the film’s original score. Walt Disney Records has will release a soundtrack album featuring the songs from the show this Friday. ‘Atomic Blonde’ Soundtrack Details

The details of the soundtrack album for the action thriller Atomic Blonde have been revealed. The album features the songs from the movie, including such 80s classics as David Bowie’s Cat People, The Clash’s London Calling, George Michael’s Father Figure, Nena’s 99 Luftballons, A Flock of Seagull’s I Ran (So Far Away) & more, as well as the HEALTH’s cover of Blue Monday, which is already available as a digital single. Also included are several tracks from the film’s original score composed by Tyler Bates (Guardians of the Galaxy, 300, Watchmen, Dawn of the Dead, John Wick) and new track by the composer and Marilyn Manson. The soundtrack will be released on July 28, 2017 by Back Lot Music and will be available for pre-order on Amazon within the next few days. Two new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the sci-fi action adventure War for the Planet of the Apes directed by Matt Reeves and starring Andy Serkis, Woody Harrelson, Steve Zahn, Amiah Miller, Karin Konoval and Terry Notary. The film’s original music is composed by Michael Giacchino (Up, Jurassic World, Doctor Strange, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Star Trek) who previously scored Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Also opening wide is the horror thriller Wish Upon directed by John R. Leonetti and starring Joey King, Ryan Phillippe, Ki Hong Lee, Mitchell Slaggert, Shannon Purser, Sydney Park, Kevin Hanchard and Sherilyn Fenn. It was announced today at Disney’s D23 Expo that Michael Giacchino will be providing the score for Pixar’s upcoming animated feature Coco. In addition, Kristen Anderson-Lopez & Bobby Lopez (Frozen) have written the original song Remember Me for the movie directed by Lee Unkrich (Toy Story 3) & Adrian Molina and featuring the voices of Gael García Bernal, Anthony Gonzalez, Benjamin Bratt and Renée Victor. The movie follows Miguel who dreams of becoming an accomplished musician like his idol, Ernesto de la Cruz and finds himself in the Land of the Dead following a mysterious chain of events. Milan Records has announced a soundtrack album for Destin Daniel Cretton’s drama The Glass Castle. The album features the film’s original score composed by Joel P West (Grandma, I Am Not a Hipster) who previously scored Cretton’s last feature Short Term 12. Also included is the original song Summer Storm written and performed by West (check out a making-of video of the track after the jump) and a cover of Don’t Fence Me In performed by Darla Hawn. Bushwick is directed by Cary Murnion & Jonathan Milott and stars Brittany Snow, Dave Bautista, Angelic Zambrana, Jeremie Harris, Myra Lucretia Taylor, Alex Breaux and Arturo Castro. The movie follows a woman who discovers that her Brooklyn neighborhood is under attack by black-clad soldiers and teams up with a war veteran.
