Premiering in the U.S. on Wednesday, May 23, is the British mini-series The Split created and written by Abi Morgan, directed by Jessica Hobbs and starring Nicola Walker, Meera Syal, Stephen Mangan, Fiona Button, Deborah Findlay and Anthony Head. The show’s original music is composed by Isobel Waller-Bridge (Fleabag). The drama centers on a family of female divorce lawyers who are forced to face their past following the return of their estranged father after a 30 year absence. Premiering on Friday, May 25, is the Netflix original movie Ibiza directed by Alex Richanbach and starring Gillian Jacobs, Vanessa Bayer, Phoebe Robinson and Richard Madden. Jeff Morrow (Olaf’s Frozen Adventure, Trolls Holiday) has composed the film’s original music. Mike Suby has recently scored a number of pilots that have been picked up to series, including The CW’s Roswell, New Mexico. The show is developed by Carina Adly MacKenzie based on the Roswell High book series by Melinda Metz and stars Jeanine Mason, Nathan Parsons Tyler Blackburn, Lily Cowles, Michael Vlamis and Heather Hemmens. The series follows the daughter of undocumented immigrants who reluctantly returns to her hometown only to discover that her teenage crush is now a police officer and also an alien who has kept his spectacular abilities a secret. Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:

Opening in most theaters is the superhero movie Deadpool 2 directed by David Leitch and starring Ryan Reynolds, Josh Brolin, Morena Baccarin, T.J. Miller, Julian Dennison, Zazie Beetz, Brianna Hildebrand and Jack Kesy. The film’s original score is composed by Tyler Bates (Guardians of the Galaxy300WatchmenJohn WickThe Punisher). The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced its summer programming lineup, which includes an evening dedicated to Oscar-winning songwriters Richard M. Sherman & Robert Sherman, best known for their classic songs for movies such as Mary Poppins, The Jungle Book, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. The Sherman Brothers: A Hollywood Songbook will take place on June 20 at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, CA and will feature appearances by Richard Sherman himself, composer Michael Giacchino (Up, Jurassic World, Star Trek, Lost), film critic Leonard Maltin, director Pete Docter & producer Jonas Rivera (Up, Inside Out) and actors B.J. ‘Legion’ Season 2 Soundtrack Details

Lakeshore Records will release a new soundtrack album for the FX original series Legion. The album features selections of the original music from the show’s second season composed by Emmy Award winner Jeff Russo (Fargo, The Night Of, Star Trek: Discovery, Snowfall, Counterpart, Power). The soundtrack will be released digitally on May 25, 2018 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The label has previously released two soundtracks featuring the composer’s score from the first season. A separate album featuring the cover songs from the series is also in the works. Legion is created by Noah Hawley based on the Marvel Comics and stars Dan Stevens, Rachel Keller, Jean Smart, Aubrey Plaza, Jeremie Harris, Amber Midthunder, Katie Aselton and Bill Irwin.  Read the rest of this entry »
